There was some great action in the salmon department, and first in the striking zone was our Honourable Chairmen of the W.F.D.G. Mr. Michael Roden with a fine 5lbs Grilse caught on the troll, with his Gillie Mr. Junior Scully,. and staying with the Grilse, a guest fishing with his Gillie Mr. Bob Priestly also caught a 4.5lbs Grilse on the troll, and last but not least and fish of the day goes to Mr. Gerry O’Sullivan, photo above, with a fine 11.5lbs Salmon caught on the troll. And in the Seatrout department there was fine 4lbs Seatrout caught on the fly by local gillie Mr. Michael O'Sullivan.Wind ESE light to calm with light rain all afternoon and evening

There was some fine action in the Salmon department first thing this morning with Mr. Dan Sugrue of Tralee and Waterville, fishing with his gillie Mr. Brod O’Sullivan, they caught three Salmon ranging from a Grilse in the 4lbs class and a 7lbs Salmon and finished the morning off with a 12 lbs Salmon all caught on the troll, now to the Seatrout department guests fishing with their Gillie Mr. Neil O’Shea, caught a fine C&R Seatrout of 4.5lbs on the fly. Lough Currane was on the slack side, the only boat that reported any action on the fly, was Mr. Vincent O’Sullivan, fishing with his client, who caught a fine Seatrout in the 3 lbs class and lost a cracker of a fish after about 20 minutes, and in the words of Mr. Vincent O’Sullivan and I quote, that’s fishing. Wind S light to fresh with reasonable cloud cover.

All quiet on the Salmon front but the same couldn't be said on the specimen Sea trout front where Mr. Sean Smith from the UK caught a fine 6lbs 2oz Seatrout on the fly with his Gillie Mr. Neil O’Shea.Wind NW light with reasonable cloud cover, and staying with the Sea trout, last year’s record Seatrout of 12 lbs 5oz caught by Mr. Heinz Strappmen with his Gillie Mr. Frank Donnelly, has just been setup and as you see by the picture its first class, what you think of the setup.

Very little action in the Seatrout department and with a cold NE wind blowing that is not surprising, but the same couldn't be said in the Salmon department where a Father and Son combination from northern Ireland in a hired out boat, caught a Grilse on the troll, which they sportingly put back, then they put their rods out again and caught a fine 8lbs Salmon and finished the day off with 2 Seatrout in the 2lbs class and I can tell you that Mr. James a Philip Burns were two very happy anglers. Wind ENE light this morning, and fresh to strong this afternoon with bright sunshine all day

The majority of Anglers had a long face, but the same couldn't be said for Mr John Curnew who caught a fine 7lbs Salmon on the troll fishing on his own and in the Seatrout department a guest caught a fine Seatrout of 3lbs with his Gillie Mr. Dominic Mc Gillicuddy. Bright and sunny and all quiet on the Big Lake/Lough Currane in all departments, the same couldn't be said for the upper Lakes and Lough Derriana where Mr Noel Clancy, caught a fine fresh Grilse on the troll with his Gillie Mr. Sion Brain of http://www.kbfishingireland.com/ Wind W then veered S and veered back into the NW light and fresh at times.

In the words of Local Gillie Mr. Neil O’Shea , the heat on the lake was awesome, awesome or not, here are today’s facts, staying with Mr. Neil O’Shea, his clients, Michael and Sean Smith caught three Seatrout in the 1.5class and one 1.5lbs Brown Trout on the fly and staying with the fly a Guest caught a Seatrout in the 2lbs class, fishing with his Gillie Mr. Vincent O’Sullivan. Wind first thing was SE, then Lough Currane went like a sheet of glass for a while and after lunch it veered into N and veered again into the NW light to fresh at times.

There was fine 2.5lbs Seatrout caught on the fly by Mr. Nigel Henshaw and his good friend Mr. Trevor Dewberry from the UK also caught a fine 2lbs Seatrout, fishing with their Gillie Mr. Michael O’Sullivan and in the Salmon department Mr. Neil O’Shea reported to me that an angler fishing on his own caught a Salmon on the troll and he also reported that there were one or two Trout caught by other anglers. Wind first thing this morning SE then veered S light to fresh. With reasonable cloud cover and very warm, max air temperature 19.7c and talking of temperatures, I was reading on http://www.loughcurrane.com/ our Manger and
commander- in- chief, Mr. Trevor Stafford Esq. is reporting that the temperature in the Commeragh River rose to 14 degrees.

Not a ideal fishing day with a light to calm Southerly wind, overcast this morning, but once the sun broke through, my noble angler was lethargic as my noble Game Fish, News just in,
I say, not that lethargic because there was a fine Seatrout caught on the fly out at the bank of the Church, by that renowned Chef, Mr. Ivor O’Conner, fishing with his Gillie Mr. Sean Brain and staying with the Seatrout, on the evening shift, an angler caught a fine Seatrout in 3lbs class in a hired out boat

There was some fine action on Lough Currane this morning and first in the striking zone was Mr. Melvin Wood with a fine Specimen Seatrout of 6lbs 3oz caught on the fly with his Gillie Mr. Tom O’Shea, also in good form was Mr Arthur White of the UK with a Seatrout of 4lbs caught on the fly, with his Gillie Mr. Michael O’Sullivan, staying with the fly, one of Michael's hired out boats caught a couple of Seatrout in the 2 to 3lbs class, next in the striking zone was a young Mather from Germany who caught a fine 2.5lbs Seatrout on the fly with his gillie Mr. Bob Priestley, and in the C&R department, Mr. Neil O'Shea was telling me that an angler caught a Grilse in the 2 to 3lbs class which he sportingly put back.

There was a fine 8.5lbs specimen Seatrout caught on the fly by a German Angler, Mr. Markus Kase fishing with his Gillie Mr. Mike O’Dwyer, also in good form was Mr. St.Johndundon with a 2.5lbs Seatrout caught on the fly with his gillie Mr. Tom O’Shea, next in the striking zone is Mr. Pat O Mahony of Cork who caught a 4lbs Seatrout on the drift and staying in the 4lbs class Mr. Arthur White of the UK caught a fine Seatrout on the fly with his Gillie Mr. Bob Priestley, a guest also caught a fine Seatrout in the 4lbs class with his Gillie Mr. Vincent O’Sullivan, and last but not least, a guest fishing with his Gillie Mr. Terrance Wharton also caught a Seatrout in the 3 to 4 lbs class. Wind W then veered SW light to fresh, with reasonable cloud cover.

The Walsh brothers from the UK were in good form when they caught a fine Grilse on the fly with their Gillie Mr. Vincent Appleby and of http://www.salmonandseatrout.com/ and in the brown trout department their good friends from Spain caught two fine Brown trout in the 3lbs class and five more in the 1lbs class, now to the Seatrout department, catch of the day goes to a guest, fishing with his Gillie Mr. Vincent O’Sullivan with two fine Seatrout in the 4 to 5lbs class.

Even though the wind was ENE and variable that didn’t Stop Mr. Dave Ecclestone of the UK procuring two fine Seatrout, one just under 6lbs and his second Seatrout of the day was in the 4lbs class, and just for the record both Seatrout were caught on the fly with his Gillie Mr. Vincent O’Sullivan and staying in the Seatrout department, they say you can’t keep a good artist down, and today was perfect example of that, when Mr Harry Freeney caught a fine Seatrout of 3.5lbs on the fly with his Gillie Mr. Dominic Mc Gillicuddy, last but not least, Mr. Phil Cronin caught a fine Seatrout in the 4lbs class.

There was some good action at the Ledge in the Mouth of the Commeragh with Mr. Dave Ecclestone of the UK catching two fine Salmon on the fly with his Gillie Mr. Vincent O’Sullivan, and in the trolling department Mr. Denis McCarthy and Mr. Keith Elany of Cork, caught two fine Brown Trout in the 3lbs class and a fine Seatrout around 1.5lbs and 10 smaller trout which I might add were all carefully put back to fight another day.

The Bank holiday weekend got off to a good start, with two Salmon caught, first in my striking zone is Mr. Gerry O’Connor, who caught a fine 9lbs Salmon on the troll with his Gillie Mr. Tom O’Shea, also in good form was Gerry O’Sullivan who also caught a 9lbs Salmon on the troll, and in the Seatrout department Mr. Tony O’Sullivan caught a 4lbs Seatrout.
