27/2/14

Lough Currane was on the quiet side after yesterdays manipulation, the only excitement was in the Kelt department so Local Gillie Mr. Dominic McGillicuddy of www.fishingwithdom.com reported to me, so on that note we will head down stream and out to the Atlantic Ocean for a spot of Bass Fishing and a diplomatic verbal thrashing for not reporting a fine catch of Bass, all in the 4 lbs class, caught on the 24/2/14 by Mr. Kevin Brain of www.kbfishingireland.com sorry for the delay but better late than never. I can hear Kevin saying no comment, all I can say is Guilty as charged. Amount of rainfall yesterday 17.1 mm

Tom and Neil O'Shea
There was a cracker of a 14 lbs 4 ozs Salmon caught on the troll by renowned Gillie's Mr. Tom O’Shea and of www.flyfishingatloughcurrane.com and his Brother Mr. Neil O’Shea of www.oshealoughcurrane.com Tom and Neil were also telling me that they didn’t even have the third rod out when my Noble Salmon sang the O’Shea national anthem. Now to the Kelt department local Gillie Mr. Mike O’Dwyer reported to me that he caught 8 Kelts on the troll. Gillie Mr. Dominic McGillicuddy of www.fishingwithdom.com fishing with his client also reported no rod benders of any form, and for the rest of the angling community there was no comment, need I say more. Wind SW light this morning with good cloud cover but come 3pm the rain came in with a strong SSW wind

Mr. Tommy Duggan
Lough Currane with the naked eye
Again Lough Currane was on the wild side with a strong westerly wind blowing down the lake with reasonable cloud cover, but this didn’t deter Mr. Tommy Duggan of Kilkenny of procuring a lightening fresh 7 lbs Salmon caught on the troll, while fishing with his Gillie Mr. Dominic McGillicuddy of www.fishingwithdom.com

Wild Atlantic
Again Lough Currane was on the wild side with a strong SSE wind blowing up the lake. Just for the record one boat did venture out across the south side but failed to Procure. Wind as already stated with very heavy showers.

First Salmon caught on the Fly by Mr. Noel Clancy
In the words of  renowned Gillie Mr. Sion Brain of www.kbfishingireland.com  here are his notes, and I quote, A visit to remember. Yesterday morning noel got 4 kelts. At three o clock Sion joined him and we got a Kelt and a fresh 8 lbs Salmon trolling. Today we fished south side and we got 4 kelts trolling in morning and got 5 kelts fly fishing. Our day finished off with a beautiful 9 lbs bar of silver on the fly. It was landed at 2:30 and we were in just in time for the match. Wind SW strong and overcast.

Sion,Noel,Martha at the

Yesterdays words of wisdom, brought the anglers out onto Lough Currane today and it wasn't long before Mr. Noel Clancy of Waterville and Dublin caught a fine 8 lbs Salmon on the troll along the North Shore, while fishing with his Gillie Mr. Sion Brain of www.kbfishingireland.com and as soon as they dispatched my Noble Salmon they headed straight for the Waterville Inn to receive the Paddy Carey Cup which was presented to Mr. Noel Clancy by Martha, and just for the record Noel’s Gillie was also telling me that they also caught a Kelt. Where do I start, well the least said the soonest mended, you lazy articles, how the hell do you expect Lough Currane to keep its international angling reputation if your not out there manipulating and I am sad to say that I am as guilty as the rest of you, so get off your laurels’  and get out there and fly the flag of the wild North Atlantic Salmon. Wind SW fresh with heavy showers, amount of rainfall yesterday 16.3 mm.

First caught on Lough Currane by Bob
Lough Currane has seen the biggest storms in years, but today we have something to celebrate, yes you have it, the first Salmon was caught on the troll, weighing in at 9 lbs, caught by Local Gillie Mr. Bob Priestley and just for the record my noble Salmon was lightening fresh, and it wasn’t long before Bob headed straight for the Lobster to celebrate the first Salmon and in his words and I quote, 4 weeks and one day to catch the first Salmon, all I can say is worth waiting for.

Red Alert, and I can tell you  Eureka Lodge was on the tree stock market and there was an almighty crash as you can see by the photos, I and Margaret had a lucky escape, thanks to the cat who ran for it 45 seconds before the downfall, as you can imagine we weren’t far behind. Now for the fishing results, you must be joking, need I say more. 13/2/14 A calmer day but still wild. 14/2/14 All quiet on the SW front and no news that would get the angling enthusiasm going. 15/2/14 Still waiting for my Noble allusive Salmon. 16/2/14 There were a few boats out and again they all failed miserably in their duties. 17/2/14 Again my Noble Anglers couldn’t produce the King of the Atlantic, my Noble Salmon. On the rain front, the amount of rainfall so far for February is a massive 192.2 mm, last year the total amount of rainfall for February was 77.7 mm

11/2/14

Straight to quote of the day, from Local Gillie Mr. Tom O’Shea of www.flyfishingatloughcurrane.com  and I quote, “no Anglers active”, and for good reason, because Lough Currane was on the wild side with a strong WNW blowing, and staying with the weather, tomorrow’s forecast is even worse with storm force 11 forecasted for the SW so batten down the hatches me harties and head for the nearest pub.

10/2/14

All anglers failed miserably in their duties and for good reason, because they are too lazy to get out there and catch that first allusive wild Atlantic Salmon, so come on down, and get the Waterville fishery flag flying you lazy articles. Amount of rainfall yesterday 5.2 mm.

On a serious note on behalf of all the Anglers and the good people of Waterville and Kerry, we wish the proprietor of The Bay View Hotel Mr. Hollie Shea, a speedy recovery after his accident.

Lough Currane was at a standstill with a strong southerly wind blowing across the lake and local Gillie Mr. Neil O’Shea of www.oshealoughcurrane.com reported there were great walls of spray from 11am onwards. Now for quote of the day from local Gillie Mr. Mike O’Dwyer, all today was fit for was the Ducks. Wind as already stated plus there was heavy rain and hail this afternoon and the forecast is worse for tomorrow?

Monday, February 3, 2014

Sunday, February 2, 2014

2/2/14

My Noble Anglers failed miserably in their duties, and for good reason they were resting on their laurels, watching the 6 Nations rugby with a pint of the black stuff in their hand, they would be far better off with a fly rod in their hand, and the sound of my Noble Salmon taking him or her to the backing. Wind SW fresh and overcast with rain at times.
