 Ms. Yingchun Dong
30/8/14 Straight to the action and a bit of history in the making I believe and for good reason, Ms. Yingchun Dong of Dalian/Dayuqua China, caught a fine 7 lbs. Salmon on the troll and went a step further by showing her fly fishing skills in C&R department and it wasn't long before Yingchun, caught herself a fine 2 ½ lbs Sea Trout and finished her day with 4 Juniors and in the words of her Gillie Mr. Tom O’Shea of www.flyfishingatloughcurrane.com  all I did was net and admired. Now to the total Sea Trout fly department, Mr. Mark Doorman was in excellent form again with 9 Sea Trout, ranging from Junior Class up to 3 lbs. While fishing with his Gillie Mr. Bob Priestley. Mr. Andy Wishart and Mr. Gavin Wishart, caught 2 Trout on the drift, while fishing with their Gillie Mr. Dominic McGillicuddy of www.fishingwithdom.com Mayo may have lost the Gaelic football semi final today against the Kingdom of Kerry but at least the Co Mayo Westport Salmon and Sea Trout Blogers were in magnificent form again in the fly department with 10 Sea Trout ranging from Junior Class up to 3 ½ lbs. Wind NW light with reasonable cloud cover.

 Laurence and Lukas

29/8/14 Lough Currane saw some good action in the Sea trout department. We start at the Bungalow and the trolling department, two young German Anglers, Master Lukas and Laurence  Muller, had their first taste of Game fishing when they caught 3 Sea trout ranging from Junior class up to 1 ¾ lbs. Staying with the Sea Trout, Mr. Mark Dorman caught 8 Sea Trout ranging from Junior Class up to 2 ½ lbs. While fishing with his Gillie Mr. Bob Priestley. 28/8/14

28/8/14 Come Lunch time Lough Currane was neigh on at a standstill with a strong SW blowing down the lake but this didn’t deter Mr. Dick Elder, manipulating his flies and it wasn't long before he caught himself a fine Salmon and his gillie Mr. Dominic McGillicuddy of www.fishingwithdom.com reported to me that Mr. Dick Elder finished his day off with 2 Trout. Now to www.fishingwithdom.com evening shift or as he put it in Extra time, Miles from the UK, caught 2 Salmon on the fly and finished his evening with 2 Trout. Wind as already stated with heavy showers throughout the day. Special note to all you Anglers who have their boats moored at the bog be warned the photo tells the story and just for the record I was not asked by Waterville House to put this warning up on the Blog

27/8/14

27/8/14 Lough Currane was on the wild side for most of the day with a strong SE wind blowing down the lake, plus there was heavy showers throughout the day and with all the elements against my Noble Anglers a few did venture out and came up trumps. First in the Sea trout fly striking zone was Mr. Miles Tandy, while fishing with his Gillie Mr. Bob Priestley, caught 5 Sea Trout to his rod, ranging from Juniors up to 2 lbs. Now to catch of the day fly department and that goes to Mr. Donagh McCarthy of the USA and Waterville, while fishing with his Gillie Mr. Dominic McGillicuddy of www.fishingwithdom.com caught a fine 6 lbs Grilse and finished their day off with a Trout.

Terry and Declan

email just in and what you see is what I got and thanks for your Support.
hi Vincent,
Just a quick note to report some nice evening fishing tonight out from the bungalow with 4 juniors caught by Sarah (8) and Orlaith (6) James from cork. Evening topped off with  a lovely brown of about 2lbs.
We met plenty of fish to the red arse green Peter.
Best regards,
Leonard James

26/8/14 It made a reasonable flood with 17mm of rainfall recorded even though the land took most of it, Lough Currane rose about 5 inches and livened the lake, the fish and anglers alike. Now to the today’s action. In the Salmon and Sea trout department. Mr. Terry O’Keeffe caught a fine 4 lbs. Salmon on the fly and his good friend, Mr. Declan McKibble caught 3 Sea Trout ranging from 2 lbs up to 3 lbs. and their Gillie Mr. Neil O’Shea of www.oshealoughcurrane.com was telling that Declan also lost a fine Salmon and just for the record they only kept a Sea Trout of 2 lbs. and the 4lbs. Salmon. Now to the total Sea Trout department Mr. Jim Sayers of Waterville had a great day and those are his words not mine but I can understand why. Jim caught 3 Sea Trout all in the 3 to 4 lbs class and finished his day off with 5 Juniors. Jims selection of fly was the Black Aunt and the Silver Watson. Wind light to calm WSW and overcast and very humid this afternoon.

25/8/14

25/8/14 We start in the backdate department as promised from Waterville Boats and at watervilleboats@gmail.com 24/8/14 the Lough Leane Anglers headed out in wild conditions on Lough Currane for their annual competition, as the Kingdom of Kerry were battling it out at Croke Park with the Boys of Co Mayo, only to land up heading for Limerick but thankfully the Lough Leane Anglers got their result and they are as follows, (1) Mr. Batty O’Brian (2) Mr. Jerry Buckley (3) Mr. Denis Cronin (4) Mr. Timmy O’Connor and just for the record they also lost some good Sea Trout and Salmon and if you Lough Leane Anglers are not satisfied with my report don’t hesitate to email me to put the record straight. Reason being when the phone went off, the line was cat, you could say if yesterdays game was played on a mobile Kerry would have lost. Now back to today’s results   Lough Currane was wild with a strong SE wind blowing down the lake and heavy rain on and off all day and it has made a reasonable flood. Just for the record very few boats ventured out. On the evening shift Mr. Donagh McCarthy of the USA and Waterville, caught 2 Sea Trout on the fly, while fishing with his gillie Mr. Dominic McGillicuddy of www.fishingwithdom.com

24/8/14

24/8/14 There was just 1 Sea Trout reported of 1 ½ lbs. caught on the fly, by Mr. Tony O’Sullivan, while fishing with his Gillie Mr. Tom O’Shea and of www.flyfishingatloughcurrane.com and there was a strong SE wind blowing down the lake with rain on and off all day. Now to the personal department I would like to apologize to Mr. Michael O’Sullivan of Waterville Boats and at watervilleboats@gmail.com for missing his phone call this afternoon, reason being I was in north Kerry so if I missed your catches all will be put right into tomorrow’s  notes once again sorry for this. On that note we end with a wise crack. An angler comes to Waterville and he stops at the first bed and breakfast, he rings the door bell and he tells the landlady, I want t fish here, the landlady replies well bloody fish there then.

The Charlie Chaplin Film Festival starts this weekend
21/8/14 We start with the fly and day shift department, Mr. Jim Sayers of Waterville caught a fine 2 ¾ lbs sea Trout and topped that with 2 fine Juniors and not to be out done, his good friend Mr. john Walsh also caught 2 Juniors. Staying with the fly department, on the evening shift, Mr. Donagh McCarthy of the USA and of Waterville, caught 5 Sea Trout from Junior class up 3 lbs. while fishing with his Gillie Mr. Dominic McGillicuddy of www.fishingwithdom.com Wind North fresh with the odd heavy shower.

20/8/14

20/8/14 Straight to the action Local Gillie Mr. Michael O’Sullivan of Waterville Boats and at watervilleboats@gmail.com reported that he saw some nice action in the Sea Trout department, plus he has some back dates, will give you all the facts as soon as I get them, sorry for this discrepancy, reason being we were ferrying the good people of all the surrounding Parishes and as far as the USA to celebrate Mass out at Church Island and by the time everyone got home I forgot to ask Michael for all the facts. Staying in the Sea Trout department, Mr. Michael Clifford of the UK and Waterville caught 3 Sea trout on the troll while fishing with his Gillie M.D. On the upper lakes there was one boat manipulating and they were very successful in the Brown Trout department. Now back to the Mass on Church Island, today were celebrating St. Bernard of Clairvaux, and here is a bit of history of this saint,

In the year 1111, at the age of 20, Bernard left his home to join the monastic community of Citeaux. His five brothers, two uncles and some 30 young friends followed him into the monastery. Within four years a dying community had recovered enough vitality to establish a new house in the nearby valley of Wormwoods, with Bernard as abbot. The zealous young man was quite demanding, though more on himself than others. A slight breakdown of health taught him to be more patient and understanding. The valley was soon renamed Clairvaux, the valley of light.

His ability as arbitrator and counsellor became widely known. More and more he was lured away from the monastery to settle long-standing disputes. On several of these occasions he apparently stepped on some sensitive toes in Rome. Bernard was completely dedicated to the primacy of the Roman See. But to a letter of warning from Rome, he replied that the good fathers in Rome had enough to do to keep the Church in one piece. If any matters arose that warranted their interest, he would be the first to let them know.
Shortly thereafter it was Bernard who intervened in a full-blown schism and settled it in favor of the Roman pontiff against the antipope.
The Holy See prevailed on Bernard to preach the Second Crusade throughout Europe. His eloquence was so overwhelming that a great army was assembled and the success of the crusade seemed assured. The ideals of the men and their leaders, however, were not those of Abbot Bernard, and the project ended as a complete military and moral disaster.
Bernard felt responsible in some way for the degenerative effects of the crusade. This heavy burden possibly hastened his death, which came August 20, 1153.

Mass on Church Island last year 2013
19/8/14  Lough Currane was on the quiet side in all departments, or you can say without any fear of contradiction they failed miserably in their duties in all departments. Now to all spiritually minded anglers and none anglers alike, just to let you know there will be Mass said out at Church Island tomorrow wed. Boats will be leaving the Bungalow at 6.30 pm and the service starts at 7 pm and every one is welcome and the more the merrier.

Simply the best and catch of the day.
18/8/14 Straight to the Sea Trout department, Simon and Andrew Furney caught 2 Juniors on the fly early this morning. Now to the backdate department, Mr. Martin Clifford of the UK, fishing from the 13th  to the 16th of August, caught 12 Juniors on the drift, also in good form was Mr. Gerry O’Sullivan of Cork and Waterville, who caught 6 Sea trout on the drift, over the weekend and on the 15th Mr. Michael Clifford caught a Grilse on the troll, while fishing with his Gillie M.D. Now back to the present and Catch of the day and that goes to young anglers, Rory Aherne aged 5 & David Aherne aged 3, they caught their first Sea Trout and may it be the first of many and if they grow up to be as good as their Gillie and  Great Uncle Liam, they will be some anglers, and as you can see their Dad, Mr. Barry Aherne, gave them a helping hand for the photo. Wind North light with reasonable cloud cover with the odd shower.

15/8/14

Tom, Jeremy
15/8/14 Straight to the specimen Sea Trout department and first in the striking zone was renowned Local Gillie Mr. Tom O’Shea of www.flyfishingatloughcurrane.com who caught a cracker of a Sea Trout of 8 lbs.1 ozs on the fly and as all good Gillie’s do when they hook their fish they hand their fly rod to their client, in this case Mr. Jeremy O’Connor, sportingly declined this invitation and the battle commenced and Tom had one hell of a battle with his Noble Sea Trout, it took about 20 minutes to conquer the battling fish and with one swipe of the net Tom had caught his biggest ever Sea Trout on the fly. Staying with Tom in his C&R department his client Mr. Jeremy O’Connor finished their day off with a fine 3 lbs. Sea Trout. Now to hired out boat department of www.flyfishingatloughcurrane.com in the last few days, Kay and Sean Dalton from Tipperary, caught 5 Sea Trout on the fly and all in the Junior
class. Wind NW light with bright sunshine.

14/8/14

Breaking News just in, Mr. Anthony Church caught a Fine Sea Trout on the Drift and thanks for the photo first class.

14/8/14 Here is your meteorological report, there was a light NNW wind blowing across the lake and there was a chill in the air with the odd heavy shower and you don’t have to be a rocket scientist to know that the manipulating Anglers failed miserably in their duties in all departments.

Wednesday, August 13, 2014

13/8/14

13/8/14 There was a good NW wind blowing with heavy showers throughout the day and there was very little action in both departments, but at least one angler did see his fly line nearly go into the backing and that was Mr. Wim Woermeij of Holland, who caught one Trout on the drift, while fishing with his Gillie Nr. Neil O’Shea of www.oshealoughcurrane.com

Tuesday, August 12, 2014

12/8/14

12/8/14 My Noble Game fish were in a lethargic mood and my Noble Anglers weren't far behind them, but to be fair to Lough Currane and the Waterville Fishery, what we need is a good flood to perk up the Game Fish as well as the anglers. Wind NW Fresh with showers.

Monday, August 11, 2014

11/8/14

11/8/14 Straight to the backdate and the Apology department, on the 31/7/14 I reported that renowned fly angler Mr. Martin Coveney of Cork, caught his fine Grilse on the troll, this was obviously wrong, being a fly angler, I got my facts wrong and his Gillie Mr. Neil O’Shea of www.oshealoughcurrane.com gave me one hell of a verbal diplomatic thrashing for not reading his texts properly. All I can say is I stand corrected, even though I am sitting down and I hope this puts the record straight. Now back to the future on Lough Currane, it was a wild day with a strong WNW blowing and very little to show for it, just the odd Junior was caught. Wind as already stated with heavy showers.
Mr. Martin Coveney.

10/8/14 Straight to today’s facts, Mr. Peter O’Donnell of Hull, while fishing with his gillie Mr. Neil O’ Shea of www.oshealoughcurrane.com  caught 6 Sea Trout ranging from Junior Class up to 3 ½ lbs. and there were a few boats manipulating and I am sure some of them caught the odd Sea   Trout, but sadly they weren't manipulating their fingers at the end of their day. Now I go to the poaching department of  www.loughcurrane.com as promised for yesterdays results on the Lough Currane Fly Championship 2014!  All the facts Courtesy of  www.loughcurrane.com  The Lough Currane Championship 2014, held this weekend,  Friday 8th and Saturday 9th August, was fished by 22 competitors in very hot and challenging conditions. The winner this year was John Hallstead, a regular participant and a previous winner! He caught two good Sea Trout, including one over 5lbs, which won him, not only the Ernest Appleby cup for the longest fish but a voucher for €1000 worth of fishing tackle courtesy of John Buckley's Emerger Tackle. The competition was followed by a lively dinner evening at the Waterville Inn. Altogether another very enjoyable event! We extend our thanks to Derek Evans, angling correspondent for the Irish Times, who kindly agreed, once again to present the prizes, to Damien Duff and his staff at the Waterville Inn for an excellent meal, to Vincent Appleby for once again photographing and donating the excellent framed photos of the event and last but not least to our hard working secretary and his fellow committee members, who helped to ensure the event ran so smoothly.

Just for the record I will put all results up once www.loughcurrane.com put up all the facts and results up on their website, reason being, its their competition and they should take centre stage plus I didn’t send them the photos last night as promised sorry for that. Now to the Party and I can say without any fear of contradiction that the Landlord of the Waterville Inn Mr. Damian Duff and his good wife Sally, put on a fantastic dinner party and the food was à la Carte, so on behalf of all the anglers once again a big thank you to you both and all your staff for a great night.

8/8/14 The Lough Currane Fly Championship 2014! got Well underway today but it was hard going but at least they saw some action, will give all the main facts out tomorrow night. Now to the regular angling News, there isn't any, either they failed to catch my Noble game fish or they failed to let their fingers do the talking and talking of failing to report, I was listening into some of the Anglers this morning and they were saying they were picking up a few Trout on the evening shift. All I can say is I haven’t  got a crystal Ball if you get my drift. Wind NW then veered SW this evening, light to calm this morning then light to fresh for the rest of the day.

7/8/14 Lough Currane was on the quiet side, having said that local Angler Mr. Michael Clifford of the UK and Waterville caught one junior to his rod, while fishing with his Gillie Mr. Mike O’Dwyer and for the rest of the angling community the least said the soonest mended. Just for the record All the angling eyes will be on Lough Currane tomorrow and for good reason, the Lough Currane Championship 2014!Our Annual Sea trout Catch and Release Fly Fishing Competition starts, so let the Battle commence and may the best Angler win and good luck to all.

Two contented Anglers.

5/8/14

5/8/14 Lough Currane was nigh on flat calm all day, the only thing that was encouraging, Mr. Neil of www.oshealoughcurrane.com reported that there were a lot of fish showing on the surface, and sadly they couldn’t be enticed hook, line or sinker.

4/8/14

4/8/14 My Noble Anglers were as scarce this Bank holiday Monday as my Noble game Fish and how the hell do you expect to catch fish when your in the Bar talking the ifs and buts, so get out there and prove the elements wrong and just for the record the great Lough Currane is a great lake in proving the elements wrong so again get out there. Wind SE  fresh with reasonable cloud cover.
He never gives up

3/8/14

3/8/14 All the head line this Bank Holiday Sunday, come from the Bungalow. First in the C&R department, Mr. Mike Power had 1 Junior to his rod while fishing with his gillie Mr. Tom O’Shea of www.flyfishingatloughcurrane.com and a guest fishing with his Gillie Mr. Neil O’Shea of www.oshealoughcurrane.com also caught 1 Trout to his rod. In Neil’s hired out boat department, Mr. Mike O’Herlan, caught 3 Sea Trout on the drift, from Junior class up to 2 lbs. and last but not least, Mr. Ray Burns caught a fine Sea Trout on the fly in the 3 lbs class. Wind N light to fresh with reasonable cloud cover.

2/8/14

Mr. Guy Atkinson
2/8/14  All the headlines go to the evening shift and for good reason, Mr. Guy Atkinson while fishing with his Gillie MD, caught his first ever Sea Trout of 5 ¼ lbs. on the fly and finished his evening off with another sea Trout in the 2 lbs. class. Wind NNE then veered NNW this evening, light to fresh with reasonable cloud cover. Now to the C&R Angler and the picture says it all, need I say more.

First ever Catch and release Angler

1/8/14

Mr.Michael Clifford
1/8/14 Star Wars 7 as you all know came to Skellig Michael, well today Mr. Michael Clifford of the UK and Waterville had his own battle, with the Wild Atlantic Salmon and one hell of a fight he gave, so Michael was telling me and once his Gillie MD took the net into his hands, the rest is history. Then it was the turn of the paparazzi to take the photo of Michael and his fresh 7 ½ lbs. Salmon. So you can say without any fear of contradiction Michael was the Star of Lough Currane today. Wind light NNW with reasonable cloud cover and very humid at times.

31/7/14 sorry for the delay the net was down

Martin
31/7/14 Sorry for the delay, me net was down but the same couldn't be said for Mr. Martin  Coveney of Cork, who caught a fine Grilse on the troll while fishing with his Gillie Neil O’Shea of www.oshealoughcurrane.com and for the rest of the angling community there was no comment. On that note we will let the Rebel flag take centre stage and at least Martin finished July on a high.
