Eric Jouen
Mr. Tom Farrer and Mr. James Henchey
30/4/15 The trolling department takes the headlines and first in the striking zone was local Gillie Mr. Eric Jouen of Waterville Boats and at watervilleboats@gmail.com who caught a fine 9 lbs. Salmon on the troll out at the Sisters. Staying with the trolling, Mr. Tom Farrer of the UK and fishing out of www.butlerarms.com caught his first ever 12 lbs. Salmon on Lough Currane, while fishing with his Gillie Mr. Dominic McGillicuddy of www.fishingwithdom.com and may it be the first of many, I can tell you Tom and his good friend Mr. James Henchey of the UK were having a good celebration with their Gillie in the Lobster Bar this evening. Wind light to calm SE this morning, then veered SW light with good cloud cover.

29/4/15

Tim O'Connor
Phil and Dominic
29/4/15 There was great action on Lough Currane today and I’ll leave the catch of the day to last. Tim O'Connor of Cork and Waterville, caught a fine fresh Salmon in the 7 lbs. class, caught on the troll, while fishing with his Gillie Mr. Tom O’Shea of www.flyfishingatloughcurrane.com Now we head for the fly department,  Mr. Phil Staniforth of the UK caught a fine 8 lbs. Salmon on the fly and as his Gillie Mr. Dominic McGillicuddy of www.fishingwithdom.com  dispatched Phil’s Salmon, Dominic said, well Phil that’s your lot for today? That’s what you think said Phil, you get on the fly rod and I’ll get on the oars and fair play to Phil he did and it wasn't long before Dominic had his fly rod bent double into a fine Salmon of 8 lbs. which Phil gladly Netted. Now to the apology department, in yesterdays notes I spelt Mr. Neil Glavin name wrong and I apologise for this discrepancy and I can tell you he gave a diplomatic bollocking which I richly deserved. Wind NW strong with good cloud cover with April showers.

Neil
28/4/15  Low lake or not, some Anglers saw some good action on the North side, so lets get to the facts. First in the striking zone  was renowned Angler Tim O'Connor of Cork and Waterville, who caught a fine 7 lbs. Salmon on the troll, while fishing with his Gillie Mr. Tom O’Shea of www.flyfishingatloughcurrane.com we stay with the Bungalow and the North side, Mr. Neil Galvin fishing out www.butlerarms.com  also caught a 7 lbs. Salmon on the troll, fishing with his Gillie Mr. Neil O’Shea of www.oshealoughcurrane.com Wind SW fresh to strong and overcast with heavy hailstone showers.

27/4/15 The Weather takes the headlines with a bitterly fresh and gusty Northerly wind blowing across the lake and in the words of one angler, it felt like it was just above freezing and with good hale showers, that’s not surprising.   www.surveymonkey.com/s/WatervilleLakesandRiversTrust

26/4/15

Mr. Dan Sugrue R.I.P.
26/4/15 Anglers again looked up to the Heavens today and for good reason, sadly I have to report that Waterville has lost another great Angler, Mr. Dan Sugrue R.I.P. Of Tralee and Waterville who sadly past away today and on behalf of all the Anglers and the good People of Kerry, I would like to send our Sincere  sympathies to all his Family and friends. On a personal note, Dan was a great all round Game Angler and as a youngster I had some great fishing days with Dan, on Lough Currane and the River Inny and I must tell you one good story about Dan when he was in his early twenty’s in the sixties, he went up to his Uncles Pool on the Inny and had six casts and six Salmon, He had two more casts and caught nothing, turned to his Uncle and said, this is no good, I am leaving and going up to the next Pool and sadly Dan you have left us and I'm sure you are casting your Flies on the upper Heavenly pools.

On today’s Angling News on Lough Currane there isn't
any, so the least said the better. Wind E fresh and bright sunshine all day.

25/4/15 www.surveymonkey.com/s/WatervilleLakesandRiversTrust

25/4/15 My Noble Anglers failed miserably to manipulate or stimulate any action in their boats, be it fly or on the troll and in the words of Local Gillie Mr. Terence Wharton Jnr, no fish Man, just a dirty black East wind out there and overcast. www.surveymonkey.com/s/WatervilleLakesandRiversTrust

23/4/15 Here are the Salmon results from Lough Currane, Germany 0 Holland 0  and if Holland did score they failed to let their fingers do the talking? All I hope is I haven’t put my foot in it. Wind Light and variable, with bright sunshine all day.  www.surveymonkey.com/s/WatervilleLakesandRiversTrust

Neil and Axel
22/4/15 Mr. Axel ZurBrugge of Germany and fishing out of www.butlerarms.com caught a fine 9 lbs. Salmon on the troll, while fishing with his Gillie Mr. Neil O’Shea of www.oshealoughcurrane.com and for the rest of the angling community they failed miserably in their duties in all departments. Wind SE light to fresh with bright sunshine all day.

21/4/15 www.surveymonkey.com/s/WatervilleLakesandRiversTrust

Neil, Axel.
21/4/15 It was nice to see a bit of fire on Lough Currane today in the trolling department and all the Head lines go to German anger, Mr. Axel ZurBrugge, fishing out of www.butlerarms.com who caught a fine 7 ½ lbs. Hatchery Salmon on the troll, while fishing with his Gillie Mr. Neil O’Shea of www.oshealoughcurrane.com and just for the record Axle’s  Salmon came in a good few weeks ago, is their a change coming, or is there a few more fresh Wild Atlantic Salmon entering the Lough Currane System ? Only time will tell, or put it this way something is on the change ? Wind S light to fresh with bright sunshine all day. www.surveymonkey.com/s/WatervilleLakesandRiversTrust

20/4/15

20/4/15 All fly and trolling reels quiet on the SW front, so the least said the soonest mended. Wind SW fresh with reasonable cloud cover. Because of the lack of excitement on the water front, we will head for the Great Fire of Caherdaniel and the great work that the Kerry Fire Service do in protecting the local community and the pictures tell the story, there is just one point I would like to make, you stupid idiots who start these fires, all you do is put the lives of the Fire Service at risk and all the houses and the good people who live in them, and thanks for nothing.

19/4/15 www.surveymonkey.com/s/WatervilleLakesandRiversTrust

19/4/15 Weather is to blame ? for the little or no action in all departments, well that is the anglers opinion, if the Wild Atlantic Salmon could speak he might say, if you anglers presented your Lures in a more enticing manner you might see a bit of action and I have spoken by the authority of my fingers. Bright sunshine with a light S wind then veered W.  www.surveymonkey.com/s/WatervilleLakesandRiversTrust

18/4/15

Mr. Alan Sheil and Master Cameron
18/4/15 My Noble Salmon were in a taking mood this morning, both North and South. We will start on the North side at the Bungalow, Mr. Alan Sheil fishing out of www.butlerarms.com Caught a fine 8 lbs. Salmon on the troll, as his Father, Mr. Leslie Sheil and Alan’s Son Cameron watched with envy and pride as their Gillie Mr. Tom O’Shea of www.flyfishingatloughcurrane.com dispatched their Noble Salmon. Now we head over to the South side, the Dutch Flag was flying high again because Mr. Tim Van Der Laan caught another cracker of a Salmon on the troll in the 12 lbs. class. While Fishing with his Gillie Mr. Terence Wharton Snr. Now to the apology department, on Tim’s last fish that he caught, I stated that he was fishing with Terence Junior which was incorrect, Tim was Fishing with Mr. Terence Wharton Snr, sorry for this discrepancy. Wind ESE light to fresh with reasonable cloud cover at times

17/4/15 www.surveymonkey.com/s/WatervilleLakesandRiversTrust

17/4/15 Lough Currane was on the quiet side in all departments, meaning to say all Anglers failed miserably in their duties. On the weather front there was reasonable cloud cover with a light westerly blowing down the lake.  www.surveymonkey.com/s/WatervilleLakesandRiversTrust

Tim

Ger

16/4/15 A low Lough Currane was in bright sunshine all day with a cloud hardly insight, as we anglers know experience tells us there isn't
much chance of procuring my Noble Gentlemen the Salmon, well Lady’s and Gentlemen think again because renowned Dutch Anglers, Mr. Tim Van Der Laan and Mr. Ger Jager of Amsterdam, rewrote the rules with 2 fine Salmon caught on the troll, Tim caught a fine 12 ½ lbs Salmon while fishing with his Gillie Mr. Terence Wharton Junior and Tim’s good friend Ger, caught a fine 11 lbs. Salmon on the troll, while fishing with his Gillie Mr. Terence Wharton Snr. Wind W and light.

15/ 4/15 www.surveymonkey.com/s/WatervilleLakesandRiversTrust

15/4/15 All quiet on the SW front, there were a few boats out, but alas they couldn't entice My Noble Gentlemen the Salmon to   cooperate their professional manipulations. Wind E light with reasonable cloud cover.

Wild Atlantic Salmon
photo taken by Mr. Peter Rall
14/4/15 Lough Currane was on the quiet side in all departments, even though there were 6 boats trying to stalk and entice the old Wild Atlantic Salmon with their Rapalas and Toby’s and Flies. So on that note I will head for the photography department and the World Famous Butler Pool and of www.watervillegolflinks.ie last week, Mr Bernard Rall and his Brother Peter Rall of Germany were fishing on the Pool and Peter took a cracker of a photo of a  Salmon coming out of the water, it may not have been catch of the day but it certainly was their photo of the week and as you know they caught a few Salmon on their trip to Waterville. Wind West moderate with reasonable cloud cover. www.surveymonkey.com/s/WatervilleLakesandRiversTrust

Its amazing what an Angler will do to Catch a Salmon
its an electrifying feeling when you have a fish at the end of your Pole

13/4/15 www.surveymonkey.com/s/WatervilleLakesandRiversTrust

13/4/15 There were a few boats out manipulating in ever decreasing circles and by the end of the day they felt like they were going up through, well I will leave the rest to your imagination !! As the Wild Atlantic Salmon looked up with a smile as he swam through the currents of Lough Currane and thinking to himself, born to be free. Weather, overcast with a strong SW Wind.

Here's looking at you anglers
12/4/15  My Noble anglers failed miserably in their duties to  procure any form of wild Lough Curran stock, in other words my Noble Game Fish made right Goats of all anglers in all departments. The only bit of an excuse they have there was a very slack East wind with reasonable cloud cover.             www.surveymonkey.com/s/WatervilleLakesandRiversTrust

11/4/15  Lough Currane was on the quiet side after yesterdays cracking Sea Trout. The only bit of excitement was with the weather, with a mixture of hale stones and sunshine and a strong westerly wind.  www.surveymonkey.com/s/WatervilleLakesandRiversTrust

10/4/15 On the Menu is Salmon Sea Trout and Pheasant

Alex
Peter
10/4/15 Straight to Catch of the day and young angler of the season, Master Alex O’Driscoll, who is only 5 years old from Waterville, who caught a fantastic Sea Trout of 11 ½  lbs. on the troll, his Gillie wants to stay out of the limelight and let young Alex take all the credit of this marvellous Sea Trout, quite right too. Now to the Salmon department, Mr. Peter Rall of Germany fishing out of http://www.cliffordbandb.com/  was in good form again in the trolling department with a fine 8 lbs Salmon, while fishing with his Gillie Mr. Dominic McGillicuddy of www.fishingwithdom.com Wind SW fresh with reasonable cloud cover. www.surveymonkey.com/s/WatervilleLakesandRiversTrust

Mr. Andrew Brown
Mr. John Bojter
8/4/15 Lough Currane saw some great action. First in the striking zone was renowned Local Gillie Mr. Junior Scully, fishing with his Grandson Master Ryan Early, they caught a fine 12 lbs. Salmon on the troll, Junior was telling me that Ryan was telling his Granddad where to go and like all good Grandparents, junior did as he was told and the rest is history. There is a philosophy to this story, its never to Early to learn and remember this Ryan, Early to bed Early to rise makes a young fishermen healthy and Wise. Staying with the Salmon department, UK Angler Mr. John Bojter, fishing out of www.lakelandshouse.com fishing with his Gillie MD, caught  a fine 9 lbs, Salmon on the Troll. Now to catch of the day and that goes to Mr. Andrew Brown, who caught a fine specimen Sea Trout of 8 lbs. on the fly, while fishing with his gillie Mr. Bob Priestley. Wind South with bright sunshine all day. www.surveymonkey.com/s/WatervilleLakesandRiversTrust

Mr. Peter Rall
7/4/15 All the odds were against the anglers, with bright sunshine and little to no wind, but odds or no odds this didn’t stop renowned German Angler Mr. Peter Rall, from catching a lightening fresh Wild Atlantic 8 lbs. Salmon on the Troll, while fishing with his Gillie Mr. Dominic McGillicuddy of www.fishingwithdom.com Weather as already stated.

7 1/2 lbs Salmon
  Hatchery Salmon
6/4/15 The Waterville Fishery gave local Gillie Mr. John Murphy, a good taste of  poetic justice today, as you all know John was our Fishery manager for a good few years and did a fantastic job all round and got the hatchery back into full swing, so it was great to see John on his first day out catching a fine 7 ½ lbs. Hatchery Salmon on the troll. Wind calm all morning and West in the afternoon and good enough to cast a fly, but sadly my Noble Salmon thought otherwise.

Sunday, April 5, 2015

5/4/15

5/4/15 There was just one 2 lbs Sea Trout caught by Mr. Bernard Brezlin of Dublin, while fishing with his Gillie Mr. Neil O’Shea of www.oshealoughcurrane.com To all you angling historians’  you well know that Ireland was celebrating the 99th Anniversary of the Easter Rising today, well this is a fact, I don’t know what James Connelly the Irish Rebel would have said if he was depending on you anglers and the rising of the Salmon, so the least said the soonest mended and let the celebrations begin. Wind S and strong with bright sunshine all day.

Saturday, April 4, 2015

4/4/15

4/4/15 There was only one bit of action on this Easter Saturday that was in the C&R department, Mr. John Bojter of the UK, fishing with his Gillie Mr. Mike O’Dwyer, caught a fine Sea Trout in the 5 lbs. class. Wind light and variable with bright sunshine

                             www.surveymonkey.com/s/WatervilleLakesandRiversTrust
3/4/15 As we all know today is good Friday, but sadly my noble Anglers had a slack Friday In all departments in other words they failed miserably in their duties to procure the Wild Atlantic Salmon or a premiere Specimen Sea Trout. On that note we will head for the backdate department and the Doctors Surgery and for good reason on the 21/3/15 Doctor Derry Gibson of Waterville and of the Medical Centre Waterville caught a fine lightening fresh 9 lbs. Salmon on the troll. Staying in the backdate department, Mr. Jim Sayers of Waterville was fishing with his good friend on Lough Cloonaghlin last Saturday 28/3/15 and caught 15 Brown Trout up to 1 lbs. and also saw the first hatch of the duck fly this year, which is in full swing at present. On their way home from their days fishing, they saw hundreds  of Hares in fields and in Jim’s words, I have never seen so many in one field. All I can say is they must have been on the drink the day before and they were having a hare of the dog. Just for the record fair play to Jim he did report this on the day, but I failed miserably in my Duties, sorry for that. Wind NE with reasonable cloud cover.

Peter Wolf
                                www.surveymonkey.com/s/WatervilleLakesandRiversTrust
2/4/15 There were two anglers who had a smile on their faces today, that was German Angler Mr. Peter Wolf, who caught a 8 lbs. Salmon on the troll, while fishing with his Gillie Mr. Vincent O’Sullivan of www.vincentsfishing.com and the celebrations’ didn’t stop there because there was a double celebration, Peter’s Gillie Mr. Vincent O’Sullivan, reached the grand age of 70 years young and I can tell you without any fear of contradiction there is one almighty party at Dooleys Restaurant, Waterville this evening as I write this report. On a personal note I would like to wish Vincent a very Happy Birthday and just for the record 42 years ago last month, Vincent caught my first Big Sea Trout weighing in at 9 lbs. 3 ozs caught on the troll and I never said thank you for that, I hope this puts the record straight and thanks for that Vince. Wind W Moderate and overcast with misty rain.

                             www.surveymonkey.com/s/WatervilleLakesandRiversTrust

1/4/15 Who was the fool on this April fools day, yes you have it, my Noble Anglers were in all departments, as my Noble Salmon looked up at their pathetic lures and their flies weren’t much better, so we will show you some professional flies tied by pro angler Mr. Sion Brain of www.kbfishingireland.com Wind W fresh and overcast with misty rain.
