30/9/16 My Noble Lords and Lady’s and Anglers alike, The 2016 Salmon Season has come to a close and I have to inform all the followers of the Waterville Fishery that today my Noble Anglers failed miserably in their duties this day in all departments but not all is lost the Salmon Gear has been put to one side as the Sea Trout gear takes over until the 12th of October so let the battle of the Sea Trout continue. Wind WSW light to fresh with good cloud cover with heavy down pours at times

Donal with his fine Salmon

As you all know tomorrow is the last day of the 2016 Salmon Season and its competition Time and its simple, the last Salmon caught on the Waterville Fishery of the 2016 season will win a Bottle of Paddy and all you have to do is text your catch and I will come in and photo your fish with the Bottle. C&R Sea Trout
Rupert
28/9/16 All today’s action comes from the south side of the lake, Pierre from France was in top form today, while fishing with his Gillie Mr. Frank Donnelly of www.lakelandshouse.com he caught 6 Sea Trout ranging from Junior class up to 2 lbs. and finished his day off with a fine 5 lbs Grilse. Now to the back date department and apologies  to Waterville House and at http://www.watervillegolflinks.ie for failing to report their action on the famous Butler Pool and yes, I failed miserably in my duties and that’s a fact, so lets put the record straight. On the 25th  September, Mr. Rupert Simonds-Gooding, caught a fine Grilse on the fly. Staying with the backdate department, I had an email today from Mr. Kevin Nagle, and in his own words. Hi Vincent, I forgot to send a photo of a Sunday afternoon 25/9/16 C&R fish.  Very nice trout about 7lbs. Very quick but poor quality photo before release. Had been up a week or two at least. Wind W then veered WSW fresh and overcast all day with heavy rain this evening.

27/9/16

27/9/16 All quiet on the SW front, this day on Lough Currane and I can hear the topic of conversation this evening as the alcohol is consumed and the exaggerating department takes over and the excuses run as freely as their liquid libations, writing with a sober mind, I can only come to one conclusion, their excuses are just as bad as their ability to catch fish. Wind SSW light with reasonable cloud cover and quite warm.

28/9/16

26/9/16 Local angler Mr. Jim Sayers, takes all the head lines as the other anglers looked on with envy and for good reason, Jim as you all know is mainly a fly angler, but today he decided to put the fly rod to one side and put the rolling rods out and it wasn’t long before he was rewarded with a fine 9 lbs. Salmon and by all accounts had a good battle and not satisfied with his one fish of the day, Jim decided to go for the C&R trolling department and yes you have it, he came up Trumps again with another Salmon in the 5 lbs. class which he put back and finished his day off with 5 Juniors again all caught on the troll and just for the record Jim would put the 9 pounder back, sadly it was badly hooked. Wind SE fresh with reasonable cloud cover.

25/9/16

25/9/16 The Lough Currane Anglers lost their stripes today and for good reason, they failed in all departments and if you were in the back Bars of Waterville this evening and listened  into their fishing pros and cons, you would think to yourself  by Jove theses anglers must be some fishermen, well today’s notes puts you in the picture.  As promised yesterdays amount of rainfall was 29 mm. Wind W fresh with reasonable cloud cover.

24/9/16

24/9/16 Again the weather was on the wild side on Lough Currane with a strong SW gale blowing down the lake, but this didn’t  deter some anglers heading out and producing the goods in the C&R department, Mr. Martin Coveney, while fishing with his Gillie Mr. Neil O’Shea of www.oshealoughcurrane.com caught a cracker of a 10 lbs. Salmon on the troll and sportingly released his catch and for the rest of the participating anglers, the least said the better. Wind as already stated. Just for the record www.met.ie was spot on with their forecast, will give you the amount of rainfall in tomorrows notes.

23/9/16

Red sky in the morning Shepherds warning
An old wives tale, well think again
23/9/16 Lough Currane was on the wild side with a strong SW gale force wind blowing down the lake and very few boats ventured out from the North side, so on that note we head across the Valley to the River Inny and going by my secret service there was no rod benders reported and if this is not the case you can say without any fear of contradiction my secret service failed miserably in their reporting duties. Now to the weather alert from www.Met.ie There is a yellow alert  for rainfall Warning  for Galway, Mayo, Cork and Kerry, Over 25 mm likely in a 12 hour period, locally up to 40 mm in mountainous areas. Note that this is an update to the previous warning to include county Mayo in the risk area.

22/9/16

22/9/16 All the action came from the South side and in the words of Mr. Frank Donnelly the Commander-in-chief of www.lakelandshouse.com and I quote, in your backdate department, County down boys left yesterday 3 days fishing, 2 hired boats, averaged more than 20 juniors, to each boat each day.
Mark
May it be the first of many
I myself fishing with 15 year old Mark Whelan caught his first salmon on the fly and two sea trout at one and half each. All I can say is congratulations to Mark and welcome to the big time. Now for the rest of the Lough Currane news, well there isn’t any, except the wind was strong this morning blowing down the Lake, in my opinion strong wind or not a lot of anglers were River Inny bound, all I can say is I hope their reels were louder that my iphone. Here endeth today’s News.

Lough Currane in calmer waters
21/9/16 Local Gillie Mr. Tom O’Shea of www.flyfishingatloughcurrane.com reported that Lough Currane was on the wild side this morning, so very few anglers if any ventured out. But come lunch time the wind had dropped and the sky cleared, a few anglers put their flies across the Lough Currane wave, but to no avail, so on that note we will head across the Valley to the River Inny and one angler takes all the Salmon headlines and that is UK angler Mr. Michael Fish and for good reason he caught himself a fine 12 lbs. Salmon and for the rest of the angling community, lake or river Angler, you all failed in your duties and going by my secret  service the majority of Lake Anglers headed for the Inny this afternoon, because there was a nice drop of water coming down the Inny after the heavy rain this morning. Wind SSW wild then veered NW light come lunchtime.

20/9/16

20/9/16 There was only one Star angler today on Lough Currane and that was 15 year old Marc Whelan of Dublin, while fishing with his Gillie Mr. Tom O’Shea of www.flyfishingatloughcurrane.com  Caught his first ever Sea Trout / junior on the fly and it wasn’t long before he followed it up with a another fine Junior, so congratulations to Marc and may it be the first of many. Now we head across to the South Side and the hired out boat department of www.lakelandshouse.com Mr. Niall O’Hearcain and his good friend, caught 6 Juniors on the drift. Now for the rest of the angling news, well there isn’t any for the simple reason the rest of the participating anglers failed miserably in their duties in all departments, so on that note we go to quote of the day and that goes to local Gillie Mr. Terence Wharton Jnr, I ain’t out in that pond, I’m fishing for a Lobster, Cheers!! Wind SW light with good clod cover with the odd light shower this afternoon.

19/9/16

19/9/16 UK fly angler, Mr. Nigel Henshaw, while fishing with his Gillie, caught 1 Junior and finished their day with a  fine 2 lbs. Brown Trout. For the rest of the angling community, they failed miserably in their duties in the procuring of a wild game fish, or were they trying to camouflage their misgivings for the lack of fish, so they could exaggerate their catches in the back bar. Wind NW light with good cloud cover.

18/9/16

You have a better chance with a floating line !
18/9/16 Lough Currane was on the quiet side as fly anglers changed their flies and their fly lines from floating to intermediate with no immediate effect and by the end of the day you can say without any fear of contradiction, with no effect at all and as I say that I have just received a Text from local Gillie Mr. Neil O’Shea of www.oshealoughcurrane.com and I quote, Bob and Roman from Luxemburg caught 3 Trout on the fly with me. So on that note we go to the backdate department of the hired out boat department of www.Lakelandshouse.com yesterday, Mr. Steven Nation and Mr. P Murphy, caught 8 Juniors on the drift. Now for a bit of stand up comedy, today I received a photo of an Angler trying out new supposed life saving gear and going by the photo my advice is stay in the Fishing shed Lads. Wind North light with reasonable cloud cover and the odd shower.

12/9/16 Seatrout update

12/9/16 I Must apologeise for the last 48 hours and sadly the reports will be sketchy for at least another 48 hours ? So lets go back in time to Saturday 10th As you know the annual  2016 ‘Currane Championship’ Waterville’s Sea Trout Catch and Release Fly-fishing Competition, organised this year by The Waterville Lakes & Rivers Trust, was in full swing, you all know the results but her are some photos of the anglers before they set out for theirs days manipulations and the photos of the presentation of the winning competitors. Now we head for the hired out boat department of www.Lakelandshouse.com  Mr. Noel Bennett from Dublin with his Son Conall caught 9 Juniors. Also in good form in his hired out boat from www.lakelandshouse.com was Mr. Martin Kearney caught a nice few Juniors up to 1 ¾ lbs. 11/9/16

My net is down  but here are the results of yesterday's catch and Release competition. 1st. Mr
Liam Ellis. 2nd. Joe Murphy.
Joint 3rd Mr. Paul lawton and Mr. Eddie Blanch. Also a big thank you to The Sea Lodge for a great meal.
Back to today, Lough Currane was at a standstill with gale force winds from the SSE and if there were any boats out they have failed to report their catches or their losses.

9/9/16

9/9/16 The  2016 annual  Sea Trout Catch and Release Fly-fishing Competition on Lough Currane was brought to an abrupt standstill today and for good reason, there was one almighty storm from the SW, raging across the Lake and all the anticipating  anglers could only do was look on and the decision to cancel today’s action was swiftly taken and because of this it will be a one day event, so rock on tomorrow and the forecast isn’t too bad.

8/9/16

8/9/16 Lough Currane was like the wild West with strong SW blowing down the lake but this didn’t deter anglers from manipulating their flies across the water and hoping to entice a wild Atlantic Salmon or one of Lough Currane premier Sea Trout but alas at the end of their day my Noble Anglers moral was wilted until they headed for the Bar and the pint floated down and they spoke amongst themselves of the one that got away. Now back to the weather, wind as already stated,  just for the record it made a fair bit of rain today, the total amount of rainfall so far this month is 36.8 mm. Tomorrow is Lough Currane fly competition and sadly I won’t be able t to take photos of all the participating anglers, sorry for this.

7/9/16

Mr. David Burton, had 3 Sea Trout to his fly rod, ranging from Junior class up to 2 lbs. all while fishing with his Gillie Mr. Tom O’Shea of www.flyfishingatloughcurrane.com Now we cut across the lake to the South side, Mr. John Delap, while fishing with his Gillie Mr. Frank Donnelly of www.lakelandshouse.com  caught 3 Juniors to his fly rod and just for the record, yesterday he caught two fine Sea Trout both in the 2lbs. Class. Wind South fresh with good cloud cover and again very humid.

6/9/16

6/9/16 Lough Currane was all quiet on all fronts and not surprising with the fog nearly to the ground this morning and one would have thought as it lifted plus a nice light breeze from the South some anglers would have seen some action even though it was very humid, to give you some idea this evening at 9. 30 pm it was 18c so on that note we head for the Waterville Boats and at watervilleboats@gmail.com backdate department Mr. Marc Luyton from Belgium and party, we start on the River Inny, in the last few days they have caught 3 Grilse up to 6 lbs. and returned 2. So they left the Inny and headed out on Lough Currane and so far Marc has recorded 9 Sea Trout and his good friend Dirk has caught 4 Sea Trout. Just for the record they have seen a good few Sea Trout and the same goes for the Salmon.

3/9/16

3/9/16 Before we get today’s manipulations a Important Notice from Mr. Rod Robinson. We have finally managed to get a date for the IFI Economist to come down and give a presentation on the joint survey WL&RT and IFI carried out last year on the economic benefit of angling tourism to the Waterville economy. It will be at 7:30 on the 9th September at the Waterville Inn, all welcome. Now for today’s action or the lack of it I should say, we start with first thing this morning, it was calm and come lunchtime it was like the wild west, with a strong SW wind blowing down the lake, some anglers stuck to their battle stations and some anglers headed for calmer waters, ie the Bars and going back to the anglers that kept manipulating their flies, one angler said it was like a Chinese takeaway out there, all I kept getting was a Birds nest.

Friday, September 2, 2016

2/9/16

2/9/16 There was some good Sea Trout fishing on the Waterville Fishery again today so straight to the action. Mr. Arnold Slater, caught 1 junior to his fly rod, while fishing with his Gillie Mr. Neil O’Shea of www.oshealoughcurrane.com also in good form in the C&R fly department was Mr. David Burton of Yorkshire, while fishing with his Gillie Mr. Tom O’Shea of www.flyfishingatloughcurrane.com caught 3 Juniors to his fly rod. Now for Lough Currane’s catch of the day and that goes to Mr. Liam McKnight of West Meath, while fishing with his Gillie Mr. junior Scully, caught two Juniors and finished his day off with a cracker of a Sea Trout weighing in at 6 ½ lbs. Now we head up to the upper Lakes and Lough Derriana, US Angler Murry Beets, fishing with his Gillie caught 7 Trout to his fly rod and for the rest of angling community they either caught nothing or too dam lazy to let their fingers do the talking, either way they have failed and let the angling and local community down. Wind SW with reasonable cloud cover.

Now to the backdate department and just for the record this could double accountancy on my part so I apologise. I had an email from Mr. Burton and I quote, Hi Vincent,
This came into my fishing.ie website as a report on Currane today. I
display your reports, which is why I'd say they sent it to me. Regards John Burton. Toby Gibbons and friends were paying their annual visit to
Currane, fishing from Neil www.oshealoughcurrane.com and having caught a specimen Sea trout last year Matt Whitelaw again came tops with a 4.5lb Sea trout closely followed by a 4 ¼  lb one by Dave Cazabon enough to bring them back again next year.
