Again all quiet on the SW front, or you could say my noble fishermen failed miserably in their duties in all departments. Wind SSE light with light rain for most of the afternoon.
Special Note I am going to Cork Tomorrow, might be back late so if there is no update you will know why,sorry for this but with any luck that wont be the case.

All Quiet on the SW front in all departments except for the Odd Kelt and a few spent Trout being caught. Wind wise little too none and reasonably mild.

Lough Currane was on the quiet side, with just one or two boats out, Local Gillie Mr. Bob Priestly caught a Kelt on the troll fishing on the north side and a Cork Angler fishing on the south side caught two spent Sea Trout on the troll and both Sea Trout were in the 4 too 5lbs class. In the past day, I have been Criticized for the lack of reporting on the web, all I can say too that renowned Gillie Mr. Dominic McGillicuddy, you can blame my Noble anglers because if they don’t produce I can’t report. Wind well I will leave that until tomorrow

Great to be back and Tight lines for the 2012 Season.
Now down to today’s facts, Lough Currane Got off to a fine start with a fine 8lbs Salmon caught on the troll by Mr. Dermot Devereux fishing with his Gillie Mr. Neil O’Shea and of www.oshealoughcurrane.com and not satisfied with that they put their rods out again and contacted another, but sadly my Noble Gentlemen came off, and this evening Mr. Dermot Devereux and his Gillie headed for the Waterville Inn To receive The Paddy Carey Memorial Cup and a fine Gold watch, and in the words of Shakespeare today’s catch was what you would call poetic justice, Nice one Paddy your Nephew Neil, did well. Wind S fresh and overcast with rain for most of the day.

Now for young Angler of the year and that goes to Young Archie Curnow of the UK who took the Crown for the River Inny with 2 fine Salmon both caught all in one day, weighing in at 11lbsa a 8.5lbs

straight to today’s facts, Mr Jim Sayers of Waterville caught 6 Juniors and Mr. John Allen caught 3 Juniors, also in good form was Mr. Rod Robinson with 3 Juniors to his fly rod, a Guest fishing with his Gillie Mr. Neil O’Shea and of www.oshealoughcurrane.com caught a nice basket of Sea Trout, Mr. Anthony Buckley of Cork fishing with his Gillie Mr. Tom O’Shea and @ tomsfishing@eircom.net caught 5 Sea Trout ranging from Juniors up to 2lbs and just for the record other boats did catch the odd Junior. I will finish the 2011 season on a personal note. Well it’s the end of the 2011 Season and what a Season we anglers have had, well, I know one Angler, that a great season that was Mr. Sean Smith of Yorkshire England, who caught the record Sea Trout 13lbs5ozs on the fly on Lough Currane fishing with his Gillie Mr. Neil O’Shea, and I might add is the biggest ever Sea Trout caught on a fly in Ireland, so in my book of Honours, Sean is the supreme Sea Trout Angler for 2011 In The Salmon and Gillie department Young Terence Wharton and his Father Mr. Terence Wharton take the honours of the first Salmon caught for 2011 and they crowned that by catching the first Salmon on the fly, the crown for the Biggest Salmon for 2011 goes to Dutch Angler Mr. William Timmermans who caught a fine 15lbs 5ozs Salmon on the troll with his Gillie Mr. Neil O’Shea and of www.oshealoughcurrane.com and for the rest of we Anglers who didn’t make the Honours list I hope you have butter luck in 2012 as always we anglers headed for the Lobster Bar for the traditional Bacon and cabbage and as always it was first class, so a big thanks to Mr. and Mrs. Denis O’Carroll and their staff for a great evening. Storm force winds from the NW brought the Sea Trout fishing to a standstill as anglers looked out at the lake, come this afternoon the wind dropped a bit and the odd boat did venture out and as of yet no reports of any real rod benders.

	Mr. Mike Thian Sings his way to Glory after catching the last Salmon of 2011 season on the River Inny

Well its that time of year again and the 2011 Salmon Season has ended not with a bang but with a great end of season Party at the Waterville Inn and a good party was had by all, now to the Salmon and Sea Trout results, I start on the Big Lake/Lough Currane. In the Salmon fly department, Mr. James MacSweeny of the UK, fishing with his Gillie Mr. Michael O’Sullivan of Waterville Boats and @ watervilleboats@gmail.com caught a fine 4.5lbs Grilse on the fly and finished his day off with a Sea trout 1.5lbs and his Gillie Mr. Michael O’Sullivan was telling me that James’s father Mr. Michael MacSweeny caught a 4.5lbs Grilse on the Famous Butler Pool during the week, now to the Sea trout department, Guests fishing with their Gillie Mr. Neil O’Shea and @ www.oshealoughcurrane.com caught 2 Juniors, in the hired out boat department of www.lakelandshouse.com a angler caught 5 Juniors to his boat, Mr. Jim Sayers of Waterville caught 2 Juniors, Mr. Anthony Buckley of Cork, caught 1 Junior. Straight to the poaching department, I was reading on www.loughcurrane.com in the last couple of days a massive Salmon was caught on the Fly and released in in Copal and before they put my Noble Gentlemen back, he measured 43 inches and if this correct My Noble Salmon would be in the 34lbs class, now today’s facts my Noble game fish were in a lethargic mood, or my Noble Anglers were fishing the wrong Flies or Lures.

Lough Currane was on the wild side but this didn’t stop Mr. Dona McCarthy of Waterville and the USA catching a fine specimen 10lbs 3ozs Sea Trout on the fly and I believe the had one mighty battle with my Noble Sea trout, so his Gillie Mr. Dominic McGillicuddy was telling me, and going by the strain on his face I would believe it, because I tell you its no joke trying to hold a boat in those conditions, so congratulations to the both of them, also in good form in the Sea trout department was Mr. Peter Twomey, who caught 3 Juniors to his rod, fishing with his Gillie Mr. Tom O’Shea and @ tomsfishing@eircom.net and staying with the Sea Trout Mr. John Kirwan of Dublin caught a fine Sea trout on the troll fishing with his gillie Mr. Vincent Appleby and of www.salmonandseatrout.com and just for the record we had a good crack from a Salmon bur the rascal lives on to fight another day. 18/9/11 The Inny takes the had lines, first in the C&R striking zone was Mr. Michael Roden with 2 Salmon to his rod both Grilse, were in the 6lbs class, as always Michael was fishing with his Gillie Mr. Junior Scully also in good form on the Inny was Mr. Peter Liddel fishing with his Gillie Mr. Neil O’Shea and of www.loughcurrane.com caught 1 grilse. There was some good fishing on Lough Currane today, so straight to the action and the fly department, first in the striking zone was local Gillie Mr. Junior Scully and his client, who caught 8 Juniors and finished his day off with a fine Sea Trout of 4 ¾ lbs and his Gillie Mr. Junior Scully was telling me that all the Juniors were returned, staying with the Sea Trout, in the C&R department, Mr. Julian Smith and party from Scotland kept their rhythm in their fly rods today, with 10 Juniors. Also in good form in the C&R Sea Trout department, was Mr. Nick White from Wales, who caught 5 sea Trout ranging from Juniors up to 2lbs fishing with his Gillie Mr. Tom O’Shea and @ tomsfishing@eircom.net and a Guest fishing with his Gillie Mr. Dominic McGillicuddy, caught 2 Juniors. Lough Currane was at stand still with a strong SW wind blowing down the Lake, but at least you cold fish the South side, Local, Gillie Mr. Sylvester Donnelly and his Client caught a few Juniors and Sylvester was telling me that they rose a good few Sea Trout, no we will cut across the Valley to the River Inny as did the majority of Anglers, and here our the results as I know them, So far there has been one Salmon recorded by Mr. Ivor O’Connor, who caught a 8lbs Salmon while spinning, and just for the record the amount of anglers fishing on the Inny I am sure there would have been a few more salmon procured and considering there was first class Water they have no excuse. Wind as all ready stated. As I am sure you all now that the back end of Hurricane Katia is going to us in the next 48 hours, so if tomorrow’s notes are not up as usual, you will know my net is down, but I hope yours will be full, so tight lines.

It was a wild day on Lough Currane today even though a few boats headed out this morning, but come lunch time thy were all blown off, so we will head for the River Inny, and that didn’t fair much better because it made a flood this morning so the river was dirty for a while. But one Angler did catch a fine grilse on the lower reaches just before it got dirty, and that was local Angler Mr. Mike Thian. Wind SW Strong and overcast with heavy showers throughout the day. The 2011 Seatrout Catch and Release Competition was voted by all as a resounding success for the Waterville Fisheries Development Group! Thirty anglers took part in the competition over the 12th and 13th August in what can only be described as very adverse weather conditions! A total of 42 fish were landed and released by the competitiors over the two days. The greatest number of fish was caught by Eddie Blanche who, as a result, won the coveted first prize, a John Meagher Anglers Fancy Lake Boat! The biggest sea trout of the competition, at 46 cm, was caught by Denis O’Sullivan. There were seven other prize winners and the final results are printed below.

The prize giving dinner at the Waterville Inn, on Saturday evening, turned into a great event with an excellent atmosphere and good food and wine. Our thanks have been extended to the Watervlle Inn and its staff for the excellent service they provided. Our thanks are also due to Vincent Appleby who tirelessly toured the lake on the competition days photographing competitors in their natural element! Its worth mentioning that all the photos reproduced on this website this year are courtesy of Vincent!

The competition has raised almost €3000 for the Waterville Fisheries Development Group and this will be used to further its work in managing and enhancing this fabulous fishery.

The Waterville Fisheries Development Group wishes to extend its thanks to all the competitors who took part together with the sponsors and organisers who made the event such a resounding success.

There were a few Sea Trout caught but nothing that would hit the head lines, so straight to the River Inny where Mr. Kevin Brain his Son Sian caught two fine Salmon on the fly and just for the record there have been well over 20 Salmon plus caught in the last three days.

As of yet I can’t give you all the facts on the Waterville Fly fishing Championship As soon as I have all the Facts and figures I will put them up with the photos of the past two days, all I will say is, the Waterville Inn provided a great meal and first class entertainment, and on behalf of all we Anglers and non Angler alike, I would like to Thank our host Mr. Damien Duff and all his staff for a great evening. On the none fly fishing front Mr. Mike Thian caught a 11lbs Salmon on the Commeragh, now we cut across the Valley to the River Inny where there was a few Salmon caught, Mr. Dan Sugrue caught one Grilse, Mr. Martin Lanigan O’Keeffe caught 3 Grilse which were returned, All caught on the fly.

Waterville Lake fly fishing 2 day Championship got into full swing today, will give you the winner late tomorrow night, but just one bit of News Mr. Liam Ellis of Cork caught a fine 10lbs Salmon and as he netted his fine fish, I can tell you he wasn’t amused because Salmon don’t count in this competition and in Kerry they have a very good saying, but I am glad to say this is a Family Site. There were a few Sea Trout caught by other Anglers but nothing that would hit the head lines, so on that note I will cut across the Valley to the River Inny and first thing this Morning a French Guest fishing with his Gillie Mr. Kevin Braine and @ www.kbfishingireland.com caught a fine Grilse, but catch of the day on the River Inny goes to Mr. Jeremy and William Hamilton, with 3 Salmon caught on the fly weighing in at 9lbs down to 5lbs, fishing with their Gillie Mr. Frank Donnelly and @ www.lakelandshouse.com Wind SW light to fresh with heavy rain this morning and light misty rain this afternoon at times.

There was some good fishing on the Waterville Fishery today, and I will start on the Big Lake/Lough Currane where there was some great action in the fly department, and the King of the Fly, goes to Mr. Ian Garratt of Dublin who caught his first ever Salmon the fly and not satisfied with one, Ian caught 3 more Salmon which he sportingly put back and his Gillie Mr. Michael O’Sullivan and @ watervilleboats@gmail.com was telling me that also rose 2 more, when asked where did they catch their fish Mr. Michael replied that’s classified, so on that note I will head for the Sea trout Department, no reports of any real rod Benders’ now we cut across the valley to the River Inny and fish of the day goes to Mr. Michael Roden who caught a fine 12lbs Salmon, also in good form was Mr. Martin Clancy of Cork who caught a 8.5lbs Salmon and finished his day off with 2 Sea Trout in the 2lbs class. Wind WNW then veered WSW late this afternoon light to fresh and overcast with light misty rain this afternoon.

Very few boats out manipulating on Lough Currane, all I can tell you that I was out with a Gentlemen and his 2 Sons from the USA and they were unlucky because we lost a fine Salmon on the troll, but sadly losses don’t count, and we finished the day off with a nice Sea Trout in the 1lbs class which was put back to fight another day, now to the River Inny and there was a fine Salmon caught by our Chairmen Mr. Michael Roden fishing with his Gillie Mr. Junior Scully, the maestro of the River Inny and that is a fact and I have spoken and that’s it. Now just to let all you anglers know there is a lot of hard work in keeping the Sea Trout streams clean and hear is some photos of that great team, that do all the hard work so we can have good fishing and keep catching those great specimens. Wind NW light to fresh with the odd heavy shower.

The Swiss Flag was fly flying high over Lough Currane today, when Mr. Lionel Taboada Caught a fine Grilse on the troll with his Gillie Mr. Neil O’Shea and @ www.oshealoughcurrane.com now to the loss department, Mr. Dan Sugrue fishing with his Gillie Mr. Brod O’Sullivan of Stella Maris Guest house, lost a fine Salmon on the troll, they reckoned it was in the 10lbs class, sorry lads losses don’t count. Wind NW with reasonable cloud cover. On the rain front there was heavy rain early this morning but sadly it didn’t last, but at least it made a small flood.

Again my noble fly Anglers had the elements against them with very little wind out there and what wind was there was from the NW, but one angler that did see a bit of action, was Mr. Alan Hanney of Co Galway, who caught a fine Brown Trout in the 1.5lbs class, fishing with his Gillie Mr. Vincent Appleby and of www.salmonandseatrout.com and just for the record there were a few nice fish showing, and that is no spin and no fly’s just facts. Wind as all ready stated, and just for the record it was over cast with light misty rain late this afternoon.

A guest fishing with his Gillie Mr. Neil O'Shea of www.oshealoughcurrane.com caught a fine 3lbs Sea Trout on the fly, and there was also a 4lbs Sea trout caught on the troll by Mr. Martin Clancy of Cork.

Straight to the Sea Trout fly department, Mr. Liam Ellis and Mr. Mr. Ted Aherne, of Cork, caught 3 Sea trout from Junior class up to 2.5lbs. In the Salmon Department Mr. Ld Binnian and Party fishing out of www.butlerarms.com caught a 8 ¼ lbs Salmon on the troll, and going by my PI, they had one hell of a battle with my noble Salmon, rumour has it took the beast part of 30 minutes plus before their Gillie Mr. Dominic McGillicuddy, dispatched my Noble Salmon, and as the say in the Highlands of Scotland better late than never. Wind NNW light to fresh at times and overcast with light drizzle at times.

Straight to the Sea Trout fly department, Mr. Frank Donnelly of www.lakelandshouse.com reported to me that in his hired out boat department, that a Party of Anglers from Killarney caught 9 Sea trout of which the best weighed in at 4lbs, now we cut across the lake to the North side, Local Gillie Mr. Neil O’Shea of www.oshealoughcurrane.com caught 1 Sea trout with his guest, now in the words of local Gillie Mr. Bob Priestly, one cast one rise, one Sea Trout of 2lbs and that was it. Wind SW light to calm, so calm it wouldn’t have put a candle out.
