Julie with her Catch of the Day
a fine specimen Sea Trout
25/5/15 Straight to catch of the day and that goes to Mrs. Julie Sanderson and her Husband Neil tells the story. Really like the website: it whetted our appetite in the lead up to our fishing holiday. We had a great morning on Currane today. My wife caught a 6.75lb sea trout on the fly - certainly the best fish I've ever seen. Find attached a photo for your website if you would like it. Her name is Julie Sanderson, thanks. I certainly do like the photo and please repeat as soon possible. I would like to finish their days fishing on this note, congratulations Julie on a great fish and may it be the first of many. Staying in the Sea Trout department, UK angler Mr. Michael Smith, while fishing with his Gillie Mr. Neil O’Shea of www.oshealoughcurrane.com caught and released a fine Sea Trout in the 3 lbs. class. renowned Artist Vincent Donnelly of https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZNcnWKFVpxY  and this is his story of the one that got away, Its all yours Vincent. I hooked a rock, then it slowly started moving off not skipping across the surface but down deep. I played the rock for over an hour and then my top dropper came slowly to the surface next to the boat, where a salmon came out of no where and grabbed the top dropper and tore off. I was disgusted. I finally landed the salmon hoping and praying the line behind the salmon would still be tight but  it was slack the Big rock was gone and I will keep that memory until I die. I came close to shedding a tear. Wind was all over the place with reasonable cloud cover.

An Artist pondering his next move will it be the carbon fiber rod
or the Brush?

24/5/15 Sadly the Lough Currane Anglers were not working hard enough in my opinion, be it in the Sea Trout or Salmon department, here are today’s facts and manipulations, first in the C&R striking Zone was UK Angler Mr. Sean Smith, who caught a fine 4 lbs. Sea Trout on the drift, while fishing with his Gillie Mr. Neil O’Shea of www.oshealoughcurrane.com also in good form with the fly was UK angler Mr. Marcel Guillou, while fishing with his Gillie Mr. Dominic McGillicuddy of www.fishingwithdom.com caught and released a fine 5 lbs. Sea Trout. I am sure there were a few more Sea Trout being caught but alas sadly my Noble Anglers weren’t letting their fingers do the talking at the end of their day and if you don’t have a contact number here it is, my mobile number 0872074882 or email salmonandseatrout@gmail.com Wind NNW fresh with good cloud cover. www.surveymonkey.com/s/WatervilleLakesandRiversTrust

Arthur White on the 20/5/15
First Grilse of 2015
Sion with his C&R Sea Trout yesterday
23/5/15 Lough Currane was on the tamer side today, but at least there were a few rod benders in the Sea Trout department. UK angler, Mr. Marcel Guillou, fishing with his Gillie Mr. Dominic McGillicuddy of www.fishingwithdom.com caught a fine Sea Trout of 4 lbs. Staying in the UK Anglers department, Mr. Michael Smith of the UK caught a fine Sea Trout 4 ½ lbs. on the drift, while fishing with his Gillie Mr. Neil O’Shea of www.oshealoughcurrane.com there is a very good Chinese saying, what honourable Son could do yesterday, honourable Father can do today and the truth of the pudding is in the eating of. Local Gillie Mr. Sion Brain of www.kbfishingireland.com reported that early this morning that he saw a good few Sea Trout, but alas they wouldn’t rise to his flies and also gave me a diplomatic verbal thrashing for not putting up his C&R 4 lbs Sea Trout on the Blog , I stand corrected and as you can see I have put the record straight. Wind West light with good cloud cover and humid.

21/5/15 Vincent Appleby fails miserably in the down loading department.

Mr. Tim Macey
21/5/15  I start today’s notes in the apology department and for good reason, I failed miserably in my duties for not down loading Mr. Tim Macey’s photo of his fine 3 ½ lbs. Sea Trout sent by Mr. Frank Donnelly of www.lakelandshouse.com and it was staring me right in the face, but sadly you the followers couldn’t see this fine fish so I am glad to put the record straight. Now to today’s  facts and there was some great action, we will start in the hired out department of Waterville Boats and at watervilleboats@gmail.com Mr. Andrew Wishart, of Northern Ireland, caught a fine 9 lbs. Salmon on the troll. Staying in the Salmon department, local Gillie Mr. Junior Scully, caught a 7 lbs. Salmon on the troll. Now we head to the Sea Trout department. Dutch Anglers fishing with their Gillie Mr. Terence Wharton, caught a fine 3 lbs. Sea Trout on the drift, also in good form was UK angler Mr. Arthur white, while fly fishing with his Gillie Mr. Bob Priestley, caught 3 fine Sea Trout their weights are as follows, 3 lbs 8 oz 3 lbs.12 oz. 2 lbs. 8oz. Sea Trout on the drift and staying with Franks Hired out boats, Mr Michael Heery met a good few Brown Trout up to 1 lbs. and a good few Sea Trout which were taking short and just for the record other anglers were reporting that they met a good few Sea Trout, but alas they couldn't get the full rod bender. Wind Westerly fresh with nice sunshine this morning then the fog came in with light rain for most of the afternoon.

20/5/15

Ken
Michael and Ken
 Marcel
20/5/15 There was reasonable action on Lough Currane in the fly department and I will leave the best to last so lets get to the action. We start on the South side, Mr. Tim Macey caught a fine 3 ½ lbs. Sea Trout on the fly, while fishing with his Gillie Mr. Frank Donnelly of www.lakelandshouse.com  Now we head across the Lake to the North side and Vincent’s Harbour, UK angler Mr. Marcel Guillou, fishing with his Gillie Mr. Dominic McGillicuddy of www.fishingwithdom.com caught a first class Sea Trout of 4 ½ lbs. on the fly. Now we will indulge in the Grilse department and I am open to correction but I believe this is the first one this season and if I am correct that honour goes Mr. Arthur White of the UK,  caught one of 3 ½ lbs. on the fly, while fishing with his Gillie Mr. Bob Priestley. Now to the à la carte Sea Trout department and catch of the day  goes to Mr. Ken Towner of Waterville and the UK, who caught a cracker of a Sea Trout of 8 ¼ lbs. on the fly, while fishing with his good friend Mr. Michael O’Sullivan of Waterville Boats and at watervilleboats@gmail.com  Ken was telling me that he had one hell of a battle with his Sea Trout and his Trout rod was doubled for well over 20 minutes which not surprising. Wind WNW fresh with reasonable cloud cover

19/5/15 www.surveymonkey.com/s/WatervilleLakesandRiversTrust

19/5/15 Lough Currane was on the quiet side in all departments and with a gusty and very cold Northerly wind blowing across the Lake, that’s not surprising and if any angler did have a bit of action they certainly failed miserably in their duties in not letting their fingers do the talking.

Marcel
Marcel and Dominic
18/5/15 It was wild Lough Currane today with a strong and Gusty WNW blowing down the Lake, but that didn't deter UK angler Mr. Marcel Guillou from manipulating his flies, I can tell you it wasn't long before his skills with a fly rod were rewarded with a fine 9 lbs. Salmon and finished his day off with a fine Sea Trout. Marcel’s Gillie Mr. Dominic McGillicuddy, of www.fishingwithdom.com was telling me that it was dam hard out there trying to hold a boat in those conditions, that’s not surprising, so fair play to all anglers that were out there. Wind as already stated, with reasonable cloud cover with heavy hail showers.

Now to the à la carte department of www.butlerarms.com and their  presentation on a Lough Currane Wild Atlantic Salmon caught by Ms. Mihaela of Mallorca and I can tell you it wasn’t long before it was devoured as you can see by the pictures and where else would you get that kind of service, in other words Hooked, Caught and Cooked.
