                                Gary's View of Kerry

31/1/2022 Lough Currane was all quiet in the angler department as My Noble Salmon patiently waits for a brown tag or barbless angler to troll or cast that flie across a taking Fish but sadly that wasn’t the case today. So, on that note we head for a Currane Anglers view of the past and Video by Gary.

               Brod O'Sullivan in 2015

27/1/2015 At last the ice is broken on the wild Atlantic Salmon front on Lough Currane and my God it was done in style by the one and only local Gillie Mr. Brod Sullivan, who was trolling on the North side when My Noble Salmon sang the Hardy Perfect National Anthem and Brod was in for a hell of a Battle and Brod had one look at the old gentlemen and knew he was into a cracker. Experience told Brod as he was fishing on his own, it’s better to be safe than sorry, so he called his good mate over, local Gillie Mr. Bob Priestley to give him a helping hand in netting this fine Salmon and staying with this fantastic fish it was a Hatchery Salmon, so we all should say a big thanks to all the Hatchery workers because without their good work theses notes and photos wouldn't be going out today. Once the excitement settled down, Mr. Brod Sullivan headed for the Waterville Inn and the Landlord Mr. Damian Duff presented Brod with The Paddy Carey Memorial Cup.

30/1/2022

30/1/2022 As you can see by the video there was only one boat out this day? and I believe the Currane angler was a barbless manipulator and on that note we head for the Currane Anglers View, so take it away Martin.

Cold Night In Waterville this evening!

Hello Vincent very sad to hear only 2 barbless boats out on the lake where are the 24 brown tags that were drawn in January, surely IfI have to come up with a better system, what is the point in giving anglers brown tags if there living in Cork and won’t be fishing Waterville lake until April/May it makes no sense and it’s an insult to the 2 barbless boats out yesterday, they’re the ones that should get the January tag’s. It looks like it’s going to be like last year people given tags and never fished Waterville, disgusting and disgraceful. Martin

                        Church Island in the Distance

29/1/2022 Just two Barbless boats out manipulating on the light to calm waters of Lough Currane this day, sadly their efforts weren’t rewarded. Wind light and variable.

28/1/2022

28/1/2021 You could say the Currane Anglers are frustrated and Browned off going by the lack of fishing on the lake, so spy gate reckons. Now we go back to yesterday on to the Lough Currane with the Currane kayak defenders and in their words, were keeping the lake safe from an invasion so the fish won’t be disturbed and going by the defenders paddles they were firing back in style. Wind WSW                        light to fresh and overcast

Lough Currane today

27/2/2022 The Russians may be on the way to the Southwest of Ireland, well sadly there were no Currane anglers in sight today? I take it there taking cover, give us your opinion on the Currane Anglers View at salmonandseatrout@gmail.com  Wind NNE light to calm.

26/1/2022 The Currane spy glasses didn’t detect any manipulators on the Lake this day and what do Currane expect the Wild Atlantic Salmon to come to you! Wind WSW light to fresh followed by misty rain in the afternoon.

25/1/2022

                                       Lough Currane today!
25/1/2022 As you can see the truth of the pudding is in the eating of, as you can see by the photo, the Brown tags were no where to be seen and the same goes for the C&R manipulators, also you can see the lake is on the low side. Wind, the photo tells you everything so on that note we head to the Currane angler’s view. So, it’s all yours Helmut.

Hi Vincent if you go fishing for brown trout on Waterville lake and all  the surrounding lakes do you have to buy a license and do you have to use barbless hooks, can you please confirm or ask your followers for me as I was told I didn’t need a licence or didn’t need to use barbless hooks , it looks really bad if it’s true as licence holders without out a brown tag need to use barbless hooks on Waterville, why buy a license so if u catch a salmon while fish for brown trout just put him back, big loophole there next year no one need buy a license, greeting’s from Helmut

                                  Lough Currane today

23/1/2022 I start with yesterday’s zone, or you could say bad reporting on my part, I will leave that to you the readers to decide. Just for the record, Mr. Robert Elson of http://thecrescentwaterville.ie/ while fishing with his good friend Mr. Brod O’Sullivan of Waterville, caught 3 Kelts on the troll with their Barbless equipment. Now back to the present, there were two boats out and all stayed quiet on the Currane front. Wind South, fresh and overcast all day.

Now todays notes, Lough Currane was all quiet in all departments. Wind SSW light sand overcast all day.

21/1/2022

21/1/2022 Just one Barbless boat out on the morning shift, come afternoon there was two Brownless trying their best to catch the first Salmon, sadly all three boats were Salmonless. Now we head for the Currane Anglers view on a short Video of trips to Waterville by UK and Currane Angler Mr. Gary W. Humphrey.

Thursday, January 20, 2022

20/1/2022 Great to see a few boats out manipulating their lures on this calm day, sadly their reels were silent, but as you can see by the photos it was bright sunshine all-day and very little wind. Just for the record there was one Brown Tag and 1 Barbless out on the morning shift, come afternoon two more Barbless boats ventured out and I was told they were of armature status, well that may be true, but sadly their fishing records today say they were as equal as each other and why? no catches to report.

19/1/2022

19/1/2022 No Brown Tags out manipulating or stimulating the waters of Lough Currane and the same goes to the Catch and Release manipulators. Now we head for the Currane Anglers View. Brown Tags are failing Miserably in their duties and the Picture tells the story.

Hi Vincent I can’t believe there hasn’t been any boats out on the lake the last 2 days and on the first morning I only seen 2 boats out, it’s the quietest I’ve seen the lake on opening day since I’ve moved to Waterville , is this because of the brown tags I hear everyone going on about. You’re friend Heidi.

18/2/2022

18/1/2022 There were No Brown Tag Boats or Barbless boats out this day and as one Currane angler said it’s very sad to see Currane lacking its anglers and there is no argument to that. Now to the apology department and for good reason, I have a lot of Texts and emails on requesting information on the Hatchery and its upgrade, sadly I have been informed to require this free information I have to pay €100 so on that Note we head for the Currane Anglers View.

Hi Vince, I hope you are continuing with the readers comments, yes Sean I am so it’s all yours Sean, so take it away.

Hi Vince, I think it’s absolutely disgusting that IFI didn’t give Brod Sullivan a brown tag ,72 years fishing on Waterville Lake surely, he should be handed a tag is there any common sense down there, who’s in charge of these brown tags whoever he or she is should be ashamed of themselves, to see locals treated so badly please sort this mess out. Sean

My Quote of the Day No Brown Tags Here at present.

15/1/2022 Great to be back on the No Spin No Fly’s just Facts Zone and sadly we Currane anglers are in another Spring Brown tag season again and to say the Currane Anglers are Browned off would be an understatement and, on that note, we will get down to today’s facts. Well, there were 3 Brown Tag boats out and one Barbless out and staying with the Barbless Angler, and what an angler he is, I’m talking of Mr. Brod O’Sullivan of Stella Maris, Waterville, who’s been fishing Lough Currane for 73 years and its sad to see that He is fishing Brownless and barbless today, all I can say, I would love to know what his Father Mr. Jack O’Sullivan RIP  would say, Jack was a Fishery Officer and I can say Jack was a mighty fishery officer as he was teacher and just for the record Jack has all the Salmon fly and troll records on Lough Currane and Brod with my Father have the record for the Inny and that record was got well over fifty years ago. Now from the past to the present there were no Brown Tags used up this opening day. Wind South light to fresh and very cold.
