The same results as yesterday. So we will head for the backdate Sea Trout department of the 6/10/13 and in the words of Mr. Paul Hyland, Vincent, apologies for late picture and report. Picture is not great either. Choppy lake and in a tight spot!
Dropped phone in sump of boat. Been doing odd things ever since. Got the attached fish on Sunday late in the evening - i think it's a good 5lb. Did well enough over four days prior to that. Best fishing all year.

There were not many boats out manipulating their flies so my Noble Anglers boats were bear as were their baskets, but at least one boat kept the Lough Currane flag flying high, and that was Mr. Liam McKnight fishing with his Gillie Mr. Neil O’Shea of www.oshealoughcurrane.com with 2 Sea Trout of which the best weighed in at 2 lbs. Their was one more boat out there but alas they obviously caught nothing and they certainly  failed miserably to report their catches or the lack of them. Now for the rest of the news there isn’t  any, because the majority of anglers were too lazy to get out there and I have to admit I am the most guilty.

Kevin with Salmon of the Sea my Noble Bass
Straight to my Noble Sea Trout, first in the striking zone were Mr. Michael Jones and Mr. Morris Willis, with 6 Sea Trout from juniors up to 3 ½ lbs and Michael was also telling me that they caught a good basket of Brown Trout and just for the record they were fishing out of the Bog. Also in good form was Mr. Roger McCogan, fishing with his gillie Mr. Dominic McGillicuddy of www.fishingwithdom.com caught 5 Sea Trout from Juniors up to 3 lbs. Now we head down stream out into the Atlantic for a bit of Bass Fishing with Mr. Kevin Brain of www.kbfishingireland.com  and his Client. So we let Kevin give you the full SP on my Salmon of the Sea and I quote, I was out fishing for Bass today with a client and we caught 7 bass to 6lb 4oz and the client asked me how old would the bass be of that size, so I have taken a few scale samples 2 from each side of the bass, put them under a microscope, the bass was 12 years old and when I showed him how to count the years from a scale he was well impressed, I was trained up in 2001 how to do this. Wind NW light to fresh with light showers at times.

3/10/13

Straight to the Sea Trout department. Mr. Michael Smith of the UK and his Son Sean caught 1 Sea Trout, while fishing with their Gillie Mr. Neil O’Shea of www.oshealoughcurrane.com Dr. Ernie Smith of Cookstown, Co Tyrone, fishing with his Gillie Mr. Michael O’Sullivan of Watervilleboats@gmail.com caught 3 Juniors to his rod. I always say my noble anglers have good excuses for not catching many fish, and today is no exception, their excuse is there was little to no wind, you could say the only wind was coming from the anglers themselves.
Now to the complaints department from a concerned Angler, called Mark and I quote, How sad to see so many large hen Sea trout killed in your report would it not have served the Lough better for these fish at this time of year to have been returned with their many thousands of eggs and it would  still  have allowed publicity for the angler and their gillie but would also be sending out a positive message to the wider angling population. I know you have to report on it I saw the same on Sheelin a few years ago but they got their act together. To catch one of those would be enough for any angler. We have big sea trout in a stream near us and I was involved with the club and know how many good eggs a big hen can carry we banned killing any above five pounds to enhance the river. You cannot tell people what to do but they can be encouraged with a little education we found that, thanks again for replying.

Lough Currane was in a more relaxed mood after yesterdays excitement, but at least one angler did see some great action with a mixture of Salmon and Sea Trout and that accolade goes to Mr. Michael Smith of the UK, while fishing with his Gillie Mr. Neil O’Shea of www.oshealoughcurrane.com caught 5 Sea Trout, 1 Junior and 4 Sea Trout in the 2 lbs plus class, and finished his day off with a Salmon in the 6 lbs class and Michael’s Son, Sean was taking it easy today with one Sea Trout in the Junior class. Mr. Rob Elson of the UK caught 2 Sea Trout, while fishing with his Gillie Mr. Dominic McGillicuddy of www.fishingwithdom.com

C&R
please let me go
There was some great action with the C&R fly rod and the videophone, all the action came from Mr. Paul Lawton of Cork and his fly rod and what a cracker of a Sea Trout he caught and as you can see by the picturs and Video taken by Mr. Peter Muldoon of Co. Cork and not forgetting their Gillie and netsmen Mr. Liam Ellis of Waterville and Cork, fair play to the lads they rang Dr, Willie Roach of the Inland fisheries to give a scientific estimated weight, so we will let the good Dr. have the last word on the size of Paul’s Noble Sea Trout. Based on previous length and weight information for specimen sea trout from Lough Currane Willie Roche from Inland Fisheries Ireland estimated that this enormous sea trout weighed 14.75 lbs or 6.69 kg.  This estimate was based on length and weight information from 57 sea trout from the Lough Currane system over the past three years and was provided by the Irish Specimen Fish Committee. In 2011 UK angler Sean Smith had a specimen of 13 lbs 5 ozs (6.04 kg), a record sea trout for the fishery, which was 83 cm in length. Lough Currane has been the most consistent producer of large sea trout for many decades and the record for the lake has been broken a couple of times in recent years. Now for the rest of the news in the Sea Trout department. In the words of Denis Dennehy, Vincent, I had five juniors on Currane today before gusting winds thwarted any further efforts. For the record other anglers recorded just a few Juniors to their rod so we will let Paul take the limelight. On the weather front, wind SE and overcast with strong gusts at times and made one big flood early this morning.
