28/6/2024

28/6/2024. My apologies to all my followers on the No Spin No Fly’s zone but as of yet I have no spin no flies facts, so on that note we will head for the Currane anglers view, the stage is yours Brian.

Hi Vincent. Just to go public on my concerns which I have related to you, and several of the boatman, already privately! There are a couple of issues that need addressing! No I. Is the online negative reactions to fishermen who keep their salmon catches rather than

C&R! C&R is not compulsory on Currane yet, or on a good many other fisheries, and I know people are entitled to their opinions! But the reactionary comments can often be very hurtful - there is no need for that kind of behaviour?? A reasonably suggestion should be that the first caught salmon is kept, thereafter C&R! I suggest that there should be no distinction in your reports as to whether a salmon is kept or released! The No 2 issue with those regular reports is the negativity expressed by yourself when there are "no rod benders," and "no screaming reels, etc." This is very off-putting when repeated day after day! Again, I suggest that there should be no reports at all on those day! I have always appreciated your reports and particularly the weather conditions accompanying the favourable reports, but the repeated negativity does nothing really to enhance my thoughts on coming down for a weekend's fishing on the Lough! So, get back in touch with the boatman, get some positivity into your reporting and don't differentiate between kept and C&R catches! It's such a beautiful place to visit, fishing or no fishing! We'll be back!

Today’s weather, wind fresh West veered WSW, SW, SSW followed by reasonable cloud cover. Yesterday’s weather, amount of rainfall 0.7mm, amount of sunshine 0hrs.1mins, maximum air temperature 14.8c.

26/6/2024

26/6/2024. The Currane anglers were all quiet going by my WhatsApple. So, on that note we head for a disappointed of Currane anglers cancellation and for good reason, yes bad reporting the stage is yours Derek.

Myself and a friend were due down for 2 days fishing this weekend coming but cancelled because of the bad reports. Between the hotel, boat hire, food and drink and other stuff we would have spent over €1000 in the community but that wont happen now. People trying to be clever in not reporting catches are being short sighted, true fishing reports are important especially for businesses in the area. I wonder how many other anglers may have cancelled because of this. Vincent Appleby of course, going there is on the bucket list but when we seen the poor reports coming in we cancelled. We didn't see the point in driving from Longford if the fishing was as bad as being reported but we'll go down next year all going to plan.

Today’s weather, Wind SSW fresh, followed by good cloud cover and rain at times? Yesterday’s weather, amount of rainfall 0.8mm, amount of sunshine 6hrs.6mins, maximum air temperature 17.6c.

24/6/2024

24/6/2024. They say the pen is mightier than the sword and there is no argument to that, they also say eventually the truth will come out, the reason I say this because it has been brought to my attention that, you the Currane anglers have been failing miserably in your duties in reporting your catches, i.e. It has been reported to me in the last week or two, there has been a  few Grilse, Sea Trout, Brown Trout caught, all I have to say is to you the Currane anglers, is that you are letting down the Bed and breakfast, angling tourism, restaurants, bars and shops, down big time and if you think that I’m going to take the blame for your disgusting behaviour towards the good people of Waterville and South Kerry your highly mistaken and just for the record, you Currane anglers are totally to blame for my negative reporting, and common sense should tell you that. Just for the record I've never lied on Salmon and Sea Trout Blog and I have no intention of starting now but I will carry on reporting 24/6/2024.Now back to today’s action and yes you have it, all quiet need I say more, so on that note we will go to the backdate department from Lough Derriana, Hi Vincent , sorry but I was on Derriana on Saturday Tho the day wasn’t ideal with the cloud down I landed 3 browns all around a pound -great sign all went back of course no seatrout or salmon sighted or caught -regards Don. Now we head for the Currane anglers weather, wind South veered Southwest fresh and overcast with a bit of sun at times, followed by misty rain at times. Yesterday’s weather amount of rainfall 0.2mm, amount of sunshine 1hrs.9mins, maximum air temperature 18.0c.

21/6/2024. As we all know today is the longest day of the year and going by my WhatsApple it certainly was for the Currane anglers as their reels and lines were all quiet in all departments. 20/6/2024

20/6/2024. The Currane anglers had another hard day’s of manipulations in the Salmon and Sea Trout department this day, sadly, if it had been a hard day’s night, they might have caught a record, personally I prefer carbon fibre to vinyl, if you get my drift, so on that note we will go into the backdate department, the stage and video is yours Brian. Hi Vincent!! I was down last week to no avail fishing-wise as Lough Currane was like a millpond for most of my time there 11th through 13th! However, I went for a memorable spin with The Shy Man on the 11th! While we were trolling on that aforementioned millpond, we came across a White-Tailed Eagle pursuing a merganser and possibly her ducklings!! The attached video was filmed at about 10am as the eagle buzzed the merganser until our approach! As the parent merganser left, the eagle continued to try to flush the youngsters from the shoreline - to no avail!! We moved away altogether rather than interfere! The eagle stayed put, so there must have been potential prey there for it! Kind regards, Brian O'Rorke - we'll be back!!

Wind SW light to fresh, followed by bright sunshine all day. Yesterday’s weather, amount of rainfall 0.9mm, amount of sunshine 13hrs.8mins, maximum air temperature 15.4c.

17/6/2024

17/6/2024. The Currane anglers frustration is understandable, four boats headed out on to a low lake and by the end of their day, it was the same old story, nothing to report. They say their frustrated, they should be in my shoes but thankfully I’m full of it, so carry on fishing and I’ll carry on reporting. Wind NNE light to fresh and sunny throughout the day. Yesterday’s weather, amount of rainfall 0.0mm, amount of sunshine 13hrs.5mins., maximum air temperature 15.8c.

16/6/2024. The Currane anglers certainly had their suntan lotion on this day, as the sun blazed down on the Currane waters, even though there was a nice light to fresh wind from the WNW and variable, their reels and lines stayed silent and slack, going by my WhatsApple. Now we head for poetic Currane anglers view on drink while fishing, the stage is yours. Beer is the secret to catching fish. In order to think like a fish, you have to drink like a fish, Cheers.

10/6/2024

10/6/2024. We start with a back date and even though I say it myself it’s great to report that UK Currane angler Mr. Marcel Guillou while flyfishing with his gillie Mr. Dominic McGillicuddy of www.fishingwithdom.com, caught and released a specimen 6lb Sea Trout. Now back to the present, www.fishingwithdom.com reports there were just two boats out today and all quiet in all departments. Staying with the amount of boats out, it  was made quite clear to me that I have been failing in my duties in this department, all I have to say to this Currane angler, yes guilty as charged so let’s put the record straight, in the past three weeks average of five boats out? on a daily basis. Wind NE light and variable, followed by reasonable cloud cover. Yesterday’s weather, amount of rainfall 0.3mm, amount of sunshine 3hrs.mins, maximum air temperature 15.0c.

So on that note, we will let the one and only My Noble Mad Fisherman take the stage at www.youtube.com/watch?v=Lw9vGqb3twQ&t=607s

Wind NNW light to fresh followed by good cloud especially in the afternoon. Yesterday’s weather, amount of rainfall 1.1mm, amount of sunshine 9 hrs, maximum air temperature 14.8c.

Yesterday’s weather, amount of rainfall a trace, amount of sunshine 4.7, maximum air temperature 14.1c.

Wednesday, June 5, 2024

2/6/2024

2/6/2024. Another bright and sunny day on this Bank Holiday, you can say that it was a perfect day for a Fogarty’s 99 as it is every day, as the Currane anglers have melt down while fishing in all departments. Now we head for the Currane anglers view, the stage is yours Currane Anglers Bill and Phil.

OK it’s a sunny day. But 1st June and not a seatrout in sight.  This breaks my heart, Vincent. Goodness knows what it’s doing to you and all the (I guess) now redundant Waterville ghillies.

you’re absolutely right Bill, it’s all about greed & money with total disregard to the environmental and wild life. Not to mention the animal cruelty in the frequently over crowed fish cages resulting in disease ridden fish & marine pollution. There is no reason why such operations couldn’t be located in less sensitive locations well away from well know wild migratory fish routes & fisheries. Truth is money talks and governments are as corrupt as they’ve ever been.

Wind NNE light, followed by reasonable clear skies, yesterday’s weather, amount of rainfall 0.0mm, amount of sunshine 15.0, maximum air temperature 17.3c.

Saturday, June 1, 2024
