21/6/2026

21/6/2026. On this, the longest day of the year, six Currane boats took to the lake, and while I’ve no official reports of any C&R Salmon, that doesn’t necessarily mean the Hardy reels weren’t giving the odd cheeky whisper. As any Currane angler will tell you, silence in the book doesn’t always mean silence on the water.
now to the Currane anglers weather chart,
Variable wind, gentle ESE veering SSE, SSW, S. Yesterday’s weather, n
o rainfall, maximum air temperature 16.6°C, and a whopping 13 hours and 8 minutes of sunshine, you could say there was enough light for the fish to read the Farmers Journal twice over and still ignore the flies. A grand day for the longest day, even if the Salmon were playing hard to get.

20/6/2026

20/6/2026. Just three Currane boats ventured out today and all lines stayed as quiet as a church confeeeion, with no reports of action from the Commeragh or the Inny either. On that note, we head straight for the Currane anglers’ weather chart, light to gentle variable wind from the NW, veering WNW, W, and back to WNW, all under bright sunshine with only the odd cloud wandering through. Yesterday’s weather, rainfall 5.8mm, maximum air temperature 16.3°C, and 3 hours 8 minutes of sunshine.

19/6/2026

19/6/26. Yesterday’s rainfall clocked in at a respectable 14. 5mm.Now to the Commeragh, where reports tell us a few Wormers were out manipulating their skills. Did they or didn’t they is the question, the same goes for the C&R River Inny. As one angler put it, “a worm a day keeps the doctor away,” if you catch my drift. Now for some good news from Lough Currane:Six boats ventured out, and a nice few Sea Trout were recorded, which is great to see. Today’s Currane Weather Chart, A gentle, variable SW wind, veering WSW, W, and back to WSW, accompanied by reasonable cloud and plenty of sunshine breaking through. Yesterday’s weather, Rainfall as already stated, maximum air temperature 16.0°C, and a grand total of 2 minutes of sunshine just enough to keep the solar panels guessing.

18/6/2026

18/6/2026. Just three boats ventured out today, and there weren’t a whisper of a rod‑bender or any reports of manipulations worth talking about. As for the Currane anglers’ weather chart, here are the facts: wind gentle to moderate, freshening at times, with an overcast sky followed by misty rain and the odd heavy shower to keep everyone honest.Yesterday’s weather: rainfall 3.8mm, maximum air temperature 17.5°C, and 4 hours and 3 minutes of sunshine

17/6/2026

17/6/2026. Just the one Currane boat out today, and I’m delighted to report that the Currane angler had a fine bit of sport, catching and releasing a few lively brownies and juniors for good measure.
Now to the Currane anglers’ weather chart: wind moderate to fresh SW, overcast for most of the day with the sun muscled through whenever it got half a chance. Yesterday’s weather, Rainfall 2.4 mm
Maximum air temperature 17.0°C, Sunshine 1 hour and 7 minutes.
Staying with the weather, there’s a yellow rain warning in place for Kerry tomorrow and Friday, so click away and you’ll see just how much liquid sunshine is heading for Lough Currane

16/6/2026

16/6/2026. There were five Currane boats out today, and sadly not a whisper of a C&R Salmon or Sea Trout between them. The Wild Atlantic stock clearly took a unanimous vote of no confidence in the Currane anglers’ tactics. Now to the Currane Anglers Weather Chart: a variable wind, gentle to moderate from the SSW, veering South and back to SSW again, with an overcast lid clamped firmly on the lake from dawn to dusk. Yesterday’s weather: rainfall recorded at 1.3mm, maximum air temperature 16.5°C, and the sun bless its shy little heart managed a grand total of 3 minutes.

15/6/2026

15/6/2026. There were no reports from the Currane anglers today, so on that note we’ll head straight for the Currane weather chart. The wind was in a playful mood, shifting from WSW to SW, then SSW, back to SW, and finishing with another flourish of SSW. Conditions were mostly overcast, though the sun did manage to break through and remind us it still exists.Yesterday’s weather: no rainfall, a tropical for-Currane maximum air temperature of 23.8°C, and a generous 12 hours of sunshine was enough to put manners on any angler who claims it was “a bit dull”. If the fish were sunbathing, who could blame them.

14/6/2026

14/6/2026. Just two boats out on the lake today and not a whisper of a C&R to report, so on that note we’ll glide straight to the Currane weather chart. Wind ESE, fresh to moderate, and the sun beaming down as if it owned the place.

Yesterday’s weather, rainfall none, maximum air temperature 16.5°C, and a whopping 12 hours and 3 minutes of sunshine, enough to give even the most dedicated angler a squint.

13/6/2026

13/6/2026. Six Currane boats out and sadly all line were slack and not surprising with the sun blazing down and hardly a cloud in site and followed by light to gentle variable NW, WNW, W, WNW, NW, NNW, N, wind. Ysterday’s weather, amount of rainfall 0.5mm, maximum air temperature 16.1°C, amount of sunshine 7 hours and 9 minutes.

Dad RIP

Today is my Father’s heavenly birthday and I will never forget the great day’s we had fishing on Lough Currane and the River Inny. Rest In Peace Dad.

12/6/2026

12/6/2025. There were eight Currane boats out today, and their lines were as slack as a politician’s answers in parliament, plenty of movement, not much substance.
Now we head for the Currane anglers’ weather chart, wind moderate to fresh from the West, later veering WNW, bringing misty rain through the morning. Come the afternoon, anglers were treated to good cloud cover and bursts of fine sunshine. Yesterday’s weather. Rainfall 3.4mm, maximum air temperature 15.4°C, Sunshine none.

11/6/2026

11/6/2026. There were just three Currane boats drifting the lake today, and sadly not a whisper of a C&R Salmon or Sea Trout to report  and the Butler’s Pool followed suit, keeping its cards very close to its chest. So, with the fish refusing to cooperate, we cast our eyes to the Currane anglers’ weather chart. Conditions were moderate in wind and overcast from dawn to dusk, with misty rain drifting through at intervals, just enough to dampen the hat but not the spirits. Yesterday’s weather, Rainfall 5.6mm, Maximum air temperature 14.4°C, Sunshine: 2 hours and 3 minutes

10/6/2026

10/6/2026. There were four Currane boats out today, and sadly not a whisper of a C&R Salmon between them. So, on that note, we’ll head downstream to the world‑famous Butler’s Pool. A few anglers were working the pool, and it was reported they lost one Salmon. Just for the record, I’m reliably informed that yesterday’s anglers also lost one, clearly the fish are reading from the same script.
Now to the Currane anglers’ weather chart:
Wind West, moderate to fresh, backing WNW before veering West again this evening. Yesterday’s weather, Rainfall 1.2mm, Max air temperature: 14.3°C, Sunshine: 7 hours

Tuesday, June 9, 2026

9/6/2026

9/6/2026. There were no reports from the Currane anglers today, so on that note we cast our eyes downstream to the world‑famous Butler’s Pool. Great to hear there were a few fly anglers throughout day. As Shakespeare nearly said, did they or didn’t they, that is the question. Now to the Currane weather chart, a moderate NW wind, good cloud cover, and showers to keep the anglers honest, followed by a fine burst of sunshine through the afternoon.Yesterday’s weather,Rainfall 3.1mm,Max air temperature: 14.2°C, Sunshine: 5 hours 9 minutes

Monday, June 8, 2026

8/6/2026

8/6/2026.There were two Currane boats out today, and sadly not a whisper of a C&R Salmon or Sea Trout. You’d imagine, after the deluge we’ve had in recent days, that a fresh Grilse might at least show a bit of manners, either to the fly or the troll, or even just to boost morale. But no, the fish remained as elusive as a politician’s straight answer.
Now to the Currane Anglers Weather Chart, a Fresh West wind ruled the day, accompanied by solid cloud cover and a few hearty showers just to keep everyone honest. The sun did make the odd cameo appearance, but only long enough to remind us what we were missing. Yesterday’s weather: Rainfall: 8.8mm Max air temperature: 14.3°C Sunshine, a mighty 0.6 minutes.

7/6/2026

7/6/2026. All Currane anglers were officially off duty today, resting on their laurels and letting the lake do the fishing for a change. With no rods raised and no reels singing, we headed straight for the Currane weather chart. Wind SW veered SSW, blowing Fresh to Strong to Moderate, with gusts up to 60 km/h and overcast followed by heavy rain at times.
Yesterday’s weather, 1.6mm of rainfall and a maximum air temperature of 14.3°C. And now, the Currane Anglers Wind Joke of the Day:
Why did the Currane wind apply for a job?
Because it wanted to blow everyone away with its qualifications.
If only the Salmon were as enthusiastic as that wind.

6/6/2026

6/6/2026. I’ll start with the Currane quote of the season: a local Gillie summed up the state of the fishery perfectly when he said, “I have never seen the lake so quiet, it’s hard to know if there are any fish around or not when no one is fishing.” Hard to argue with that bit of Currane philosophy, and indeed, not a single boat was reported out today to test the theory.

Now to today’s Currane weather chart: wind fresh to moderate and doing a full tour of the compass NW veering WNW, then W, WSW, and finally SW, all accompanied by good cloud cover with the sun breaking through when it felt like it.
Yesterday’s weather: rainfall 20.3mm, maximum air temperature 14.3°C, and a grand total of 0.9 minutes of sunshine, which is barely enough time to blink, never mind sunbathe.

Breaking News

The Mad Fisherman is Back enjoy

5/6/2026. As of this morning and afternoon there were no reports to raise the Currane eyebrows, so it’s straight to the Currane Anglers Weather Chart. Wind was variable SSW, veering S to SSW, and throwing in gusts up to 60 km/h for good measure. As for liquid refreshment from above, there was a fair drop of rain this evening, enough to keep the wellies honest.
Yesterday’s weather, amount of Rainfall 5.0 mm, Maximum air temperature 13.5°C.
Just for the record, I was reading the Inland Fisheries Ireland Angling Update this evening. Over the Bank Holiday there were two Salmon reported and three C&R Sea Trout up to 3 lbs.

Wednesday, June 3, 2026

3/6/2026

3/6/2026. Lough Currane was far too wild to even contemplate venturing out, and for good reason. A strong, variable wind hammered the lake, WSW, W, back to WSW, all accompanied by fierce gusts. There was good cloud cover throughout, with the sun breaking through now and again just to prove it was still there.Yesterday’s weather: rainfall measured 0.8mm, the maximum air temperature reached 14.4°C, and the sunshine amounted to a grand total of 0.2 minutes, barely enough to light a pipe.

2/6/2026

2/6/2026. There were no reports of any Currane boats out today, so we’ll take it that all was quiet on the angling front. With that, we head straight for the Currane weather chart: wind moderate NW veering WNW, accompanied by good cloud cover, and if the sun did manage to break through, it certainly didn’t overstay its welcome. Yesterday’s weather: rainfall 15.8mm, maximum air temperature 15.8°C, and sunshine none. Just for the record, if there’s a late report, I’ll update with a Currane Angling News Flash. At least 1 fish caught on the troll  2 boats out

1/6/2026

1/6/2026. Just two Currane boats ventured out today and, with no reports on their manipulations, I’ll take it as gospel that their lines were slack and their reels silent the Currane choir was clearly not in a singing mood.
News just in: over the Bank Holiday there were a fair few brownies caught and a couple of seatrout met for good measure, so at least someone was doing the business while today’s anglers were perfecting the ancient art of practising patience.
Now for the Currane Weather Chart: a variable, moderate WSW wind, good cloud cover throughout, and misty rain drifting across the lake like a shy guest who refuses to leave.
Yesterday’s Weather, Rainfall: 3.2 mm, Maximum air temperature: 16.7°C, Sunshine: 0.2 minutes. May Total Rainfall 81.0 mm.

30/5/2026

30/5/2026. Just one Currane boat out today and sadly no C&R Salmon or Sea Trout reported. So, on that note, we head straight for the Currane anglers’ weather chart. Wind was moderate to fresh from the SW, throwing in gusts up to 45 km/h for good measure. Misty rain took command for most of the afternoon before the sun finally broke through, a pity I can’t say the same for the Wild Atlantic Salmon, and the Sea Trout weren’t exactly queuing up either.

Yesterday’s weather:
Rainfall: 0.1 mm
Max air temperature: 17.7°C
Sunshine: 9 hours and 7 minutes.

And now your “one Currane boat out on the lake” joke:
A lone Currane angler was asked how the fishing went.
He replied, “Well, the wind nearly blew me home, the rain nearly drowned me, and the sun nearly burned me — but the Salmon? Ah, they didn’t nearly do anything!”

29/2026

29/5/2026 The Currane anglers were as silent as a church on a Tuesday, not a whisper, not a murmur, not even a rumour of a rise. With no reports coming in, we’ll cast straight over to the Currane weather chart. Wind was a moderate SW veering SSW, giving decent movement on the water, accompanied by good cloud cover and plenty of sunshine breaking through to keep the photographers happy, if not the anglers.

Yesterday’s weather: 0.6mm rainfall, maximum air temperature 16.7°C, and 2 hours and 2 minutes of sunshine — just enough to keep the grass honest. Currane Joke of the Day.
A Currane angler walked into the pub looking miserable.
The barman says, “No fish again today?”
The angler replies, “Fish? I’d settle for a pull at this stage, even the midges won’t bite me.

28/5/2026

28/5/2026. Just one Currane boat ventured out today and, by all accounts, every line stayed slack as a priest on a Monday morning. On the Currane weather chart, the wind was a variable, moderate South, veering SSW to SW, with good cloud cover and the sun breaking through whenever it felt like showing off. Yesterday’s weather: rainfall 0.0mm, maximum air temperature 29.6°C, and a blistering 14 hours and 5 minutes of sunshine, no wonder the fish were hiding in the shade.
As for the Currane reels, they were quiet enough to hear a midge sneeze. The same can’t be said for the Mad Fisherman, his video is anything but silent. Click, watch, and enjoy the madness.

27/5/2026

27/5/2026. Another roaster of a day on Lough Currane, and you wouldn’t need to be a rocket scientist to know the facts — but just in case anyone missed the memo, here they are.

We head straight to the Currane weather chart: a moderate and variable ESE breeze, doing its best to pretend it mattered, while the blazing sun took full command with only the odd scrap of cloud for company. Yesterday’s weather, Rainfall: None at all, Max air temperature: 24.7°C, Sunshine: 15 glorious hours. you could say
a day so bright even the fish were reaching for sunglasses.

Sea anglers delight
Ballinskelligs Bay today

25/5/2026.The Currane Salmon and Sea Trout anglers would have been well smoked had they ventured out today, with the sun blazing down on the Waterville fishery and temperatures hitting a scorching 30°C. Add in a light, variable ENE breeze that wandered off through SSE, SSW, SW, WSW, W, and back to WSW for good measure, all under a crystal‑clear sky, and you can understand why the Currane anglers wisely took it easy. Even the fish were probably sunbathing.

Yesterday’s weather:
No rainfall to report, maximum air temperature 21.3°C, and a marathon 14 hours and 7 minutes of sunshine — enough to make even the most dedicated angler consider a cold pint over a hot rod.

Monday, May 25, 2026

25/5/2026

Ballinskelligs

25/5/2026. Just one Currane boat ventured out today and, sadly, no reports of any C&R to raise the heartbeat. So, on that note, we head straight for the real question of the day: no flies, no spin… just poaching — what’s your opinion?

Now to the Currane anglers’ weather chart: Variable light winds shifting from NE to ENE, then swinging S, SW, W, and finally WSW — a full compass tour for the sake of it. Bright sunshine ruled the day, as your photo proves beyond doubt.

Yesterday’s weather: Rainfall 0.0 mm, Maximum air temperature 18.4°C, Sunshine 13 hours and 7 minutes — a proper scorcher for May.

I’ll finish with a bit of Currane humour: A local angler said he saw a Salmon jump today… but after 13 hours of sunshine, he admitted it might’ve just been his reflection trying to escape.

Sunday, May 24, 2026

24/5/2026

24/6/2026. Just three Currane boats out today on a bright, beaming, sun‑splitting‑the-stones kind of day, with hardly a cloud in sight — and I’m afraid I can say the very same for the Salmon and Sea Trout. The Currane anglers were more sunbathing than striking, but sure that’s fishing for you.

Now to the Currane weather chart: wind gentle to moderate from the South, later veering SSW. Yesterday’s weather: no rainfall, maximum air temperature 16.1°C, and 6 hours and 4 minutes of glorious sunshine.

And for today’s comedy ending: One angler said the lake was so calm and the fish so scarce that he considered trolling a mirror just to see something moving under the boat. I told him not to worry — with his luck, he’d only catch his own reflection looking disappointed

Saturday, May 23, 2026

23/5/2026

23/5/2026 There were four Currane boats out today and, sad to say, not a single C&R Salmon or Sea Trout felt like making the headlines. The lake was as quiet as a church on a Tuesday. Now, as we head for the good old days, I’ll leave you with a little challenge — can you name these three characters in the photo? Answers on a postcard, or better still, straight to the bar.

Currane Anglers’ Weather Chart: Wind: Moderate SSW, giving the lake a decent push but not enough to wake the fish from their apparent coma. Cloud cover: A respectable mix of good cloud and plenty of sunshine breaking through — just enough to confuse both anglers and fish alike.

Yesterday’s Weather Rainfall: 3.8mm  Max air temperature: 14.9°C Sunshine: 0.4 minutes — yes, that’s not a typo. You’d get more light opening the fridge.

In summary: the fish were missing, the weather was teasing, and the anglers were left wondering if the Currane stock has taken up remote working abroad.

22//5/2026

22/5/2026. There were no reports from the Currane anglers today, and on that note, you can safely say there wasn’t a boat to be seen on the lake. So, it’s straight to the Currane anglers’ weather chart. Wind was moderate to fresh from the South, veering SSW, accompanied by good cloud cover and rain drifting through at times.

As for yesterday’s weather, apologies — your correspondent got back too late to file the stats, but knowing Currane, it was either too wet, too dry, too windy, or too calm for the anglers’ liking.

Thursday, May 21, 2026

21/5/2026. There wasn’t a whisper of a boat on Lough Currane today  not a ripple, not a rod raised, not even a seagull giving out. So, what can I say? Well, thankfully The Mad Fisherman has galloped in like a one‑man rescue mission with a brand‑new video, and I quote: An Apple a Day makes The Donkey Bray.”

All I can add is: enjoy, and thank God I’m an Appleby — it’s safer than being the donkey.

Now to the Currane Anglers Weather Chart: wind moderate to fresh, with heavy cloud and heavy showers marching across the lake like they owned the place. A proper soak‑you-to-the-bones day.

Yesterday’s weather: Rainfall: 6.4mm Maximum air temperature: 16.1°C Sunshine: 2 hours and 8 minutes (though most anglers would swear it was only 8 minutes).

Wednesday, May 20, 2026

20/5/2026

20/5/2026. Not a Currane boat to be seen on Lough Currane today — the lake was quieter than a heron with a hangover. So it’s hey‑ho, hey‑ho, off to the weather chart we go. The wind did its usual dance, starting gentle to moderate from the WSW before twirling through SW, SSW, and finally settling on S, as if it couldn’t make up its mind which way to annoy the anglers.Yesterday’s weather: rainfall clocked in at 3.4mm, the max air temperature hit a tropical 13.4°C, and sunshine amounted to a whopping 0.6 minutes — blink and you’d have missed the entire summer.

Tuesday, May 19, 2026

19/5/2026

19/5/2026. There were no reports of any Currane boats out today, and to be fair, the lake wasn’t exactly inviting. A moderate to strong south‑westerly wind drove hard down the lake, accompanied by heavy showers from morning to evening, enough to keep even the hardiest angler on dry land. Now to the Currane weather chart: Yesterday’s rainfall: 8.6mm Maximum air temperature: 12.9°C Sunshine: None. A day best forgotten by anglers and fish alike.

Monday, May 18, 2026

18/5/2026

18/5/2026. I have no reports of any action from Lough Currane today, so on that note we head straight for the Currane anglers’ weather chart. The wind ranged from gentle to moderate to fresh and was variable from the South, veering SSW, S, and SSE, all accompanied by heavy showers throughout the day. As for yesterday’s weather, the rainfall clocked in at 17.8mm, the maximum air temperature was 12.0°C, and the sunshine amounted to a grand total of 0.8 minutes.

17/5/2026

17/5/2026. Just for the record, there were no reports of any action yesterday, and the same can be said for today. That said, one Currane boat did venture out, and the angler texted to say — and I quote — “not a Salmon or Sea Trout in sight.” On that note, we head straight to the Currane anglers’ weather chart: the wind was Moderate to Fresh, accompanied by heavy showers throughout the day. As for yesterday’s weather, rainfall measured 2.5mm, the maximum air temperature was 13.0°C, and the sunshine clocked in at 7 hours and 6 minutes.

16/5/2026

 16/5/2026

It is with great sadness that we mark the passing of Pádraig Fogerty, RIP, who left us yesterday. For many of us, the memories go right back to the early days of Fogerty’s small butcher and grocery shop — you’d walk in to find Sheila Ann at the counter and Pádraig at the butcher’s block, both serving the good people of Waterville and the surrounding areas with warmth, respect, and hard work.

In the years that followed, their dedication and community spirit built Fogerty’s Centra, a cornerstone of village life — and the rest, as they say, is history.

Now, you might ask what Fogerty’s has to do with fishing reports. Well, we Currane anglers owe Pádraig a debt of gratitude. Whenever one of us was lucky enough to land a Specimen Sea Trout, there was only one place to go: Fogerty’s. If memory serves, they weighed more specimen Sea Trout than any other shop in the history of Sea Trout fishing. That alone secures Pádraig’s place in the folklore of Lough Currane.

On behalf of the Currane anglers, and the good people of Waterville and the surrounding areas, we extend our sincere sympathies to his beloved wife Sheila Ann, son Patrick, daughter Hazel, daughter‑in‑law Maura, and his adored grandchildren Millie, Louise, Laura, Grace, Chloe, and Jamie. We also remember his sisters Ann and Lucille, his brothers‑in‑law, sisters‑in‑law, nieces, nephews, grandnieces, grandnephews, cousins, neighbours, and his wide circle of friends.

Rest in Peace, Pádraig. A gentleman, a community man, and a quiet part of Currane history.

14/5/2026

14/5/2026. They say fishermen are liars — or is it that all liars fish? I’ll let the philosophers debate that one, but I may be guilty as charged, because it has been brought to my attention that in the last few days there hasn’t been a single Currane boat out. And why?  Because their clients don’t like the new regulations and it is putting people off coming down to Waterville, sadly there’s no argument to that.

Now, in my defence, anyone who reads my notes knows well that when boats are out, I report exactly how many — even the other night when their engines were so quiet you wouldn’t hear them if they were parked in your kitchen. But fair play to the Currane angler who raised the point; he made a valid one. Unfortunately, I don’t have a crystal ball, so come on you Currane anglers — let’s hear your comments. Send them on and I’ll put them up on the notes. WhatsApp: 0872074882.

Now we head for the Currane Anglers Weather Chart: wind fresh NNW, with showers sweeping through and plenty of sunshine breaking out in between. Yesterday’s weather: rainfall 0.9mm, maximum air temperature 12.4°C, sunshine 6 hours and 1 minute.

13/5/2026

13/5/2026. The Currane anglers headed out on a rough and ready Lough Currane today, battling a strong NNW wind with gusts hitting 59 km/h for good measure. Between the blasts there was a lively mix of cloud, sunshine, and the odd shower just to keep everyone on their toes. As for yesterday’s weather, the rainfall clocked in at 0.4mm, the maximum air temperature reached 13.3°C, and the sunshine recorded was an impressive 9 hours and 1 minute. Just for the record, there were still no reports of any C&R Wild Atlantic Salmon—clearly the fish were taking a day off while the anglers were earning their sea legs.

11/5/2026

Peter

11/5/2025. The Currane anglers were all quiet again today — in fact, you could say it was too quiet for our Noble anglers, especially with their reels staying as dormant as a politician’s promises after election day. One Currane angler even suggested that the lack of fish is entirely my fault, claiming my reporting is scaring them off. I replied, “Old boy, if my reports had that much power, you’d all be catching salmon by the dozen,” and left him to ponder that.

Today’s Currane weather chart: wind moderate NNE with good cloud cover. Yesterday’s weather: no rainfall, maximum air temperature 13.4°C, and a generous 13 hours and 2 minutes of sunshine — though clearly the fish didn’t bother reading the forecast.

We’ll finish today’s report on a sentimental note — those were the days indeed. There’s Peter, happily enjoying his lunch out on Lough Currane, soaking up the peace and the scenery, and reminding us all of the great memories made back in 2023. A fine snapshot of simpler times, when the only thing rising was the kettle steam and, if you were lucky, a salmon.

10/5/2026

10/5/2026. Straight to the action, and the action was mostly in the sunscreen department. Just three Currane boats were out today, each one manipulating their skills from the North Shore to the Point of the Grassy, drifting on to the Gray Rock, sliding past the mouth of the Commeragh, and trolling by Holly Island with the bow pointed at the ledge before swinging gently toward the Bull Rock and finally slipping into the Sound. From there it was a straight run for the Major — but sadly, the only thing major was the suntan. By all accounts, the Currane anglers caught nothing but rays and a touch of humility.

Now for today’s Currane anglers weather chart: wind fresh and variable from the NE, accompanied by blazing sunshine that left no mercy for man nor salmon. Yesterday’s weather: rainfall none, maximum air temperature 13.6°C, and 7 hours and 1 minute of pure, unfiltered sunshine.

And I will finish on a fitting note: One Currane angler said he saw a salmon today — but only because the heat had him hallucinating.

9/5/2026

9/5/2026. As of this evening, the Currane C&R board is still as empty as a monk’s diary — not a whisper of a wild Atlantic Salmon to report. The lake clearly decided to spend the day sunbathing rather than entertaining anglers.

So, straight to the Currane anglers’ weather chart we go. The wind came in fresh from the NE, pushing along reasonable cloud cover, though the sun kept bursting through like a lad who refuses to stay out of the pub. Yesterday’s weather delivered 7.8mm of rainfall, a maximum air temperature of 12.4°C, and — wait for it — a grand total of 0.3 minutes of sunshine. Yes, you read that right. Not even enough time to blink twice.

Derrynane

8/5/2026. Another suspiciously quiet day on Lough Currane — so quiet you’d swear the Japanese outboards had taken a vow of silence. Not a murmur, not a whisper, just the odd shower sneaking in to remind the anglers who’s boss.

As for the Currane weather chart, the wind couldn’t make up its mind and spent the day doing laps: ENE to NE to N to NNW to SSE to WNW and back to N again, like a compass having an identity crisis. Showers came and went, breaking through whenever they felt like causing trouble.

Yesterday’s weather: rainfall 1.3mm, maximum air temperature 14.0°C, and 2 hours and 6 minutes of sunshine — though most anglers swear they only saw 30 seconds of it.

7/5/2026

7/5/2026. We’ll start by correcting yesterday’s little misfire. I reported that the Currane anglers had failed miserably in their duties — only for the lake to tap me on the shoulder early this morning and whisper, “Actually, one Salmon was caught.” Nothing like putting the record straight before the rumour mill gets up to speed.

Now back to the present. As of this evening, there are still no reports of any wild Atlantic Salmon being caught, so the lake is keeping its cards close to its chest.

On to the Currane anglers’ weather chart: the wind came from the SSW before veering SW, blowing Gentle to Moderate, with reasonable cloud cover drifting about. Yesterday’s weather saw 0.0mm of rainfall, a maximum air temperature of 13.6°C, and a generous 7 hours and 6 minutes of sunshine — enough to make the fish consider sunglasses but not enough to make them rise.

Ballinskelligs Bay today

In the distance Hogs Head

6/5/2026. The Currane anglers were all quiet today, and to be fair you couldn’t blame them—conditions were pure kat. The sun was blazing down on the lake like it had a personal grudge, and the variable lighttogentle NE wind wasnt exactly inspiring the fish to rise and shine. Yesterdays weather tells its own tale: rainfall 0.0 mm, maximum air temperature 13.3°C, and 6 hours and 6 minutes of sunshine, which clearly went straight to the fishs heads. I’ll finish today’s report by saying the photo tells the Currane anglers’ story—because the fish certainly didn’t.

Ballinskelligs  Bay Today

5/5/2026. Just two boats ventured out on Lough Currane today and, by all accounts, their reels were as quiet as a lamb—so quiet you’d swear the fish had taken a bank holiday of their own. As you can see from the photo, it was a pictureperfect day for sea fishing if you catch my drift. Now to the Currane weather chart: wind gentle from the NE and variable throughout the day. Yesterday’s weather: rainfall 1.1mm, maximum air temperature 13.6°C, and 4 hours of glorious sunshine.

One angler said the lake was so calm he could see his reflection—unfortunately, the fish must have seen it too and decided to stay well hidden.

4/5/2026

4/5/2026. Five Currane boats ventured out on this Bank Holiday Monday, and despite their noble efforts, every reel on the lake maintained a vow of silence worthy of a monastery. Not a whisper, not a murmur — pure Currane serenity, or pure Currane stubbornness, depending on your temperament.

Now to the Currane weather chart: a Gentle to Moderate NNE breeze presided over proceedings, accompanied by respectable cloud cover and a generous helping of sunshine. As for yesterday, rainfall amounted to no more than a trace, the mercury peaked at 14.3°C, and the sun graced us with 2 hours and 6 minutes of its valuable time. Just for the record, last month’s rainfall totalled a hearty 151.1mm — enough to keep every Kerry blade of grass feeling smug.

3/5/2026

3/5/2026. In the words of one Currane angler out on the lake today, and I quote, “Just six Currane boats out and all blanks.” All I can add is this: may the month of May turn their luck before the salmon start laughing at us. Now to the Currane weather chart, where the wind came in Gentle to Moderate, accompanied by reasonable cloud and sunshine. Yesterday’s weather recorded 0.8mm of rainfall, a maximum air temperature of 14.1°C, and 1 hour and 3 minutes of sunshine.

And to finish, an Irish fishing joke to keep the spirits afloat: Why do Irish salmon never tell secrets? Because they know the nets have ears.

2//5/2026

 Photos Sunrise today.
2/5/2026. Six Currane boats took to the lake on this May Bank Holiday, but it was the wild Atlantic Salmon who claimed the holiday for themselves, if you catch my drift, leaving the anglers to admire the scenery rather than the reel. As for the Currane weather chart, the wind was a lively character, shifting from South to SSW, SW, WSW, W, and finally WNW, all under reasonable cloud cover with matching sunshine. Yesterday’s weather recorded 0.0mm of rainfall, a maximum air temperature of 15.5°C, and 7 hours and 9 minutes of sunshine.

1/5/26

1/5/2026. Just one boat out and no reports of any C&R from the Currane angler, so, its straight to the Currane anglers weather chart, wind variable fresh SSE veered South, SSW, followed by good sunshine throughout the day. Yesterday’s weather, amount of rainfall 6.1mm, maximum air temperature 16.4°C, amount of sunshine 1-hour 5 minutes.

Just for the record there were two Salmon caught last week courtesy of the Inland Fishery.

30/4/2026

30/4/2026. The Currane anglers were so quiet today you’d swear they were on a sponsored silence. Even the YAMAHA outboards were purring like they were afraid to wake someone. One could only conclude that rods, reels, flies, and lures were either missing in action or hiding in the long grass until morale improved.

As for the Currane weather chart: wind ESE, moderate to fresh, later veering SE — the sort of breeze that promises great things and then wanders off for a sandwich. Cloud cover was good, with the sun breaking through now and again just to remind the anglers what they could be enjoying if the fish would only cooperate.

Yesterday’s weather, amount of rainfall 0.0 mm, maximum air temperature

20.3°C, amount of sunshine 13 hours 6 minutes.

29/4/2026

29/4/2026. The Currane anglers were as quiet as a salmon in hiding, and to be fair, the conditions were the same as yesterday, so nobody can blame the fish for staying off the grid. The only catch of the day wasn’t a fish at all but a stunning sunset photo taken this evening by a local photoghapher A proper C&R moment — catch the sunset, release a sigh, and pretend you planned it that way. In fact, the sunset posed so perfectly you’d swear it had been practising all afternoon.

As for the Currane anglers’ weather forecast: wind East moderate with bright sunshine throughout the day. Yesterday’s weather: rainfall 0.0mm, maximum air temperature 18.9°C, and 10 hours of sunshine — enough to make even the clouds take the day off.

Tuesday, April 28, 2026

28/4/2026

28/4/2026. The Currane anglers were forced to deploy their sombreros at full tilt today as the sunshine blasted down on the lake with all the subtlety of a Spanish fiesta. As for C&R reports — not a whisper, not a murmur, not even a rumour from a seagull.

So, with the lake quieter than a salmon on a diet, we head straight to the Man himself — The Mad Fisherman has his say on YouTube: www.youtube.com/watch?v=8R0wYSh6y98

Now for the Currane Anglers Weather Chart: wind all over the shop — East, then ESE, then SE, then SSE, then SW, and finally W, as if the weather gods were spinning a wheel to see what direction they fancied next.

Yesterday’s weather: rainfall 0.0mm, maximum air temperature 16.7°C, and a blistering 13 hours and 4 minutes of sunshine — enough to make even the most seasoned Currane angler consider factor 50 and a siesta.

27/4/2026

27/4/2026. The Currane anglers headed out on Lough Currane on a hot, bright, sun‑splitting‑the‑stones day, with not a cloud to be seen from here to Timbuktu. In fact, it was so fierce out there you’d swear the Currane anglers had raided a Mexican market stall, because half of them were practically hiding under their sombreros to save their Currane faces from being roasted alive.

With conditions like that, it’s no wonder there are no reports as of yet of any C&R salmon — the fish were probably wearing sunglasses themselves and laughing from the depths.

Now to today’s Currane anglers’ weather front: wind from the NE, variable, light to gentle. Yesterday’s weather recorded 0.0mm of rainfall, a maximum air temperature of 15.3°C, and a glorious 8 hours and 1 minute of sunshine — enough to justify every sombrero on the lake.

Sunday, April 26, 2026

26/4/2026

26/4/26. Only three boats ventured out on Currane today, and to be honest, it was as quiet as a church on a Tuesday. Not a whole lot to report from any department — the fish clearly took the day off. Weather for the anglers: A gentle, wandering WNW breeze to start the morning, with decent cloud cover to give hope. By afternoon the clouds packed their bags and left us under bright, stubborn sunshine — lovely for sunbathing, not so lovely for catching salmon.

Saturday, April 25, 2026

25/4/2026

25/4/2026. All honours on Lough Currane today are most deservedly bestowed upon Mr. Daniel Dwyer, who, while angling under the expert guidance of the distinguished Gillie Mr. Dominic McGillicuddy, secured a splendid 12‑lb salmon on the troll.

For the record — and for those who appreciate the finer details — seven boats graced the lake, yet it was Mr. Dwyer alone who succeeded in persuading a Currane salmon to rise to the occasion. Now for the today’s Currane anglers weather chart, the weather proved most civilised: a gentle south‑westerly breeze, occasionally variable, drifted across the water, accompanied by respectable cloud cover through which the sun broke intermittently, lending the proceedings an atmosphere of quiet refinement. Yesterday’s weather, amount of rainfall 0.1mm, maximum air temperature 17.9°C, amount of sunshine 1 hour.

24/4/2026

24/4/2026. Starting with a spot of backdating—and a cracking bit of news it is—five fine salmon were reported caught on the troll by Currane anglers over the weekend of 19/4/2026, courtesy of Inland Fisheries. You could say the lake was in a generous mood while it lasted.

Now back to today’s reality, and sadly the generosity didn’t continue. There were no reports of any C&R from the Currane, so straight to the Currane anglers’ weather chart we go. The wind came in Fresh and then let its temper rise, pushing on to gusts Near Gale, all under a heavy cloak of cloud. As for yesterday’s weather, the rainfall was a big fat 0.0mm, the maximum air temperature hit a respectable 16.7°C, and the sunshine clocked a grand total of 0.7 minutes—yes, you read that right, 0.7 minutes, hardly enough to tan a mackerel.

Friday, April 24, 2026

23/4/2026

23/4/2026. As of yet there were no reports from the Currane anglers, and to be fair it was fairly rough out there on Lough Currane. A fresh SE wind ruled the day, followed by gusts pushing up to 60 km/h, enough to keep most boats where they belonged — firmly tied to the harbour. Yesterday’s weather, amount of rainfall 0.0mm, maximum air temperature 13.6°C, amount of sunshine 0 and 4 minutes.

22/4/2026

22/4/2026. All Currane stations were closed, and for good reason — it was wild out there with gusts hammering from 79 km/h up to 83 km/h throughout the day, all under good cloud cover. Yesterday’s weather: amount of rainfall 0.0 mm, maximum air temperature 13.2°C, and the sunshine clocked in at 4 hours 7 minutes.

21/4/2026

21/4/2026. There were no reports from the Currane anglers and to be fair it was wild out there, even though the wind was East before veering ESE. Fresh throughout, followed by gusts from 50 km/h to 64 km/h, and all topped off with good cloud cover. Yesterday’s weather, amount of rainfall 0.0, maximum air temperature 15.8°C, amount of sunshine 8hours.

Monday, April 20, 2026

20/4/2026

20/4/2026. The Currane anglers were all quiet in all departments so, yes, its straight to the Currane anglers weather chart, wind variable gentle to moderate followed by bright sunshine. Amount of rainfall none, maximum air temperature 14.6°C, amount of sunshine 9 hours and 2 minutes.

Sunday, April 19, 2026

19/4/2026

19/4/2026. There were seven Currane boats out, and I’m glad to report that a Currane angler caught a fine Salmon on the troll, while the rest of the fleet passed Michael with that familiar look of why not me, if you get my drift.  Now to the Currane weather chart, wind variable, Gemtle to Moderate ESE veered, SE, S, followed by plenty of sunshine. Yesterday’s weather, amount of rainfall 0.2mm, maximum air temperature 11.9°C, amount of sunshine 10 hours and 1 minute.

Saturday, April 18, 2026

18/4/2026

18/4/2026. In the words of one Currane angler on today’s manipulations and I quote, 10 Currane boats and 10 blanks, and Currane angler Barry has hit the nail again, now the Currane anglers’ weather chart. Wind moderate ESE veered SE, followed by reasonable cloud cover and plenty of sun breaking through. Yesterday’s weather, amount of rainfall 1.0mm, maximum air temperature 12.9°C, amount of sunshine 5 hours 3 minutes.

17/4/2026

17/4/2026. Just four Currane boats out, yes, you have it, all Currane anglers’ reels were quiet throughout the day. Now, as Currane angler Barry would say, that’s fishing for you. Now today’s Currane weather chart: wind variable fresh WSW veered W, followed by reasonable cloud. Yesterday’s weather: amount of rainfall 12.8mm, maximum air temperature 11.9°C, amount of sunshine 0.1 minute.

16/4/2026

Backdated to 14th April

First, my apologies to Currane angler Mr. Axel Zurbrugg of Germany for not reporting his fine catch sooner. While out trolling with his Gillie, Mr. Neil O’Shea, Axel caught and released a cracking 15 lbs Salmon. A fine fish and a fine bit of sport, and well deserving of recognition.

Now back to the Present – 16th April

As for today’s proceedings, the Currane anglers reported that it was wild out there, and by all accounts all lines were slack. Not a single rod was bent, and the lake kept her secrets firmly to herself.

Weather, Wind: Moderate to fresh, veering to strong at times, all from the SSW Conditions: Testing, lively, and not for the faint-hearted. Yesterday’s weather, amount of rain fall 19.8mm, maximum temperature 13.3°C, amount of sunshine 1 hour 9 minutes

15/4/2026

15/4/2026. Just two Currane boats ventured out today, and conditions were decidedly rough on the lake. In the words of one seasoned Currane angler, ‘Come three o’clock we were back in the harbour and headed straight for the bar.’ That sentiment summed up the day perfectly — the weather won this round.” Wind Fresh to Near Gale SSW veered SW. Yesterday’s weather, amount of rainfall 26.8 mm, 12.5°C. Amount of sunshine none.

14/4/2026

Michael and Nuala

14/4/2026. Just two boats ventured out on the lake today, and despite their best efforts, all lines remained slack. With the fishing quiet, it’s only fitting that we cast our attention to a far more important catch.

On behalf of all Currane anglers from every corner of the globe, heartfelt congratulations to Michael and his good wife Nuala on their 60th wedding anniversary. Now that is the catch of the day — a remarkable milestone and a great achievement by any standard.

May their nets stay full of joy and their boat steady on the waters of life.

Today’s Currane weather chart, wind a Gentle Breeze SSE veered S, followed by light to heavy rain at times. Yesterday’s weather, amount of rainfall 1.4mm, maximum air temperature 11.4°C, amount of sunshine 4 hours 9 minutes.

12/4/2026

12 June 2026. Celebrated German Angler’s Memorable Catch on Lough Currane Today, Lough Currane was graced by the presence of the well-known German angler, Mr. Axel Zurbrugg. Under the expert guidance of Gillie Mr. Neil O’Shea, Axel added another highlight to his illustrious fishing career by reeling in a magnificent 10-pound salmon. It was a perfect day of finesse and skill on the water, Currane Anglers Weather Chart: A fresh breeze to a moderate wind from the WNW, later veering W. Good cloud cover throughout the day, with bright sunshine breaking through at intervals, followed by classic Aprilstyle showers drifting across the lake. Yesterday’s weather, amount of rainfall 8.0mm, maximum air temperature 10.4°C. amount of sunshine 3 hours and 1 minute.

Currane Anglers Weather Report – 10 April 2026

Today’s Conditions:

A wild day on the lake. Winds began SSE before veering SSW, blowing hard at 54–59 km/h, with gusts reaching up to 82 km/h. Heavy rain dominated from morning to evening — your estimate of 30 mm or more is entirely believable given the conditions.

As one seasoned Currane angler put it, “today was a day for the high stool.” Hard to argue with that.

9/4/2026

I think we will have to go on strike.”

Four boats out, not a single Salmon to show for it. When the fishing is kat, the commentary gets even better.

🌦️ Weather on the Day (9 April 2026)

  • Wind: WNW, fresh to strong
  • Cloud cover: Good, with occasional breaks
  • Showers: Light and scattered
  • Yesterday’s rainfall: 1.4 mm
  • Max air temperature: 12.4°C

A proper Currane mix — enough wind to ruffle tempers and enough cloud to keep hope alive, even if the fish didn’t get the memo.

If you want, I can turn these into a running log, a polished fishing journal entry, or even a tongue‑in‑cheek “Currane Angler’s Strike Bulletin.”

21/2/2026

21/2/2026
At Lough Currane, angling activity remained quiet across all areas today, with no reported catches in any department.
With little to report on the fishing front, attention turns to the weather conditions. A fresh south-westerly wind persisted throughout the day, accompanied by overcast skies and the occasional light shower. Weather data recorded yesterday showed: rainfall: 3.1 mm
Maximum air temperature: 12.6°C
Sunshine: 2 hours 9 minutes
Overall, conditions were unsettled but not severe, and anglers will be hoping for improved sport as weather patterns stabilise in the coming days.

20 February 2026 – Opening Salmon Success on Lough CurraneRenowned Currane angler Dominic McGillicuddy  broke the Currane ice in fine style today, landing and safely releasing a superb fresh wild Atlantic salmon weighing over 9 lbs.The fish provided an exhilarating battle, taking Mr. McGillicuddy a full 20 minutes to bring his noble opponent to the net.
