24/7/2026. Just one Currane boat ventured out today and, sad to say, there were no reports of any C&R. Straight to the Currane Anglers Weather Chart, Gentle to Moderate variable N, veering WNW, NW, NNW, and back to NW, with good cloud cover dominating the day as the sun made periodic appearances through broken skies. Yesterday’s weather, Rainfall: 0.0mm, Max air temperature: 23.8°C, Sunshine, 12 hours and 4 minutes. And now. To finish today’s report, we hand the mic to the one and only Mad Fisherman, a man who needs no introduction and wouldn’t take one anyway. A salmon washed up on the Inny Strand, and by the look of it, it died tangled in a poacher’s net. I received the photo the day before yesterday. My apologies to the angler who sent it; it’s a grim sight and a reminder of the damage done by those who take without respect.

23/7/2026. There were three Currane boats out on this bright and sunny day, and sadly I have no reports of any C&R Salmon or Sea Trout. So, on that note, we head straight to the Currane Anglers Weather Chart, a gentle, variable ENE breeze drifting across the lake. Yesterday’s weather, Rainfall 0.0 mm, Maximum air temperature 20.7°C, Sunshine: 13 hours and 4 minutes.

 22/7/2026. No reports from the Currane anglers today, and that’s hardly surprising given the weather. So what can I say? Not a lot, but that doesn’t mean my Noble Salmon can’t be tempted in conditions like these. Weather, a gentle to moderate NE wind carried reasonable cloud through the morning, only for the afternoon sun to blaze down and put the lake under pressure. Yesterday’s weather, Rainfall: 0.0 mm, Max air temperature: 20.5°C, Sunshine: 12 hours 7 minutes

 21/7/2026. The Currane anglers were all quiet today. On the weather front, it was much the same as yesterday, except there was some good cloud cover this morning. Come the afternoon, bright sunshine took over for the rest of the day. Now for the Currane anglers’ weather chart, wind gentle to moderate NE, veering NNE.

Just for the record, that doesn’t mean that my noble Currane angler didn’t catch a Salmon or C&R Sea Trout the same goes for the past week.

20 July 2026. The photos say it all on Lough Currane today, capturing the Currane anglers in their full glory. Turning to the photographer’s weather chart, we were under a gentle to moderate NNE breeze, shifting now and again just to add character to the day. As for yesterday, the stats speak for themselves: not a drop of rain, a balmy 22.0°C at its peak, and an impressive 15 hours of sunshine lighting up the Kingdom.

 19/7/2026. No reports from the Currane anglers on this bright and sun-soaked day, and by the looks of things, not a cloud in sight to give them cover. One might say the anglers were as scarce as a salmon on a scorching July noon, or perhaps they took one look at the blazing conditions and wisely declared it a day for the deckchair rather than the drift. On the Currane weather chart, the wind started light to moderate NE, later veering NNE. Yesterday’s weather, Rainfall 0.0 mm, Max air temperature, 20.7°C, Sunshine: 14 hours and 6 minutes in other words, a grand day for sunburn, a poor day for salmon, and a suspiciously quiet day for the Currane anglers, but we won’t hold that against them

Just the odd Currane boat out today, and sadly no reports of any C&R to brighten the brighten the day up , As for the Currane anglers’ weather chart, wind NE, light to moderate, and the lake was under the command of bright sunshine from dawn to dusk. Yesterday’s weather: rainfall 0.0mm, maximum air temperature 22.2°C, and a cracking 14 hours 9 minutes of sunshine.

16/7/2026. No Currane boats headed out today, and hardly a shock considering the conditions. So it’s straight to the Waterville Fishery weather report: a variable wind swinging from NNE to N, NNW, WNW, NW, back to NW, and finally settling at N, all under a blazing sun from dawn to dusk.
Yesterday’s weather, Rainfall: 0.0 mm, Maximum air temperature: 25.9°C, Sunshine: 3 hours 2 minutes
It’s been a fair stretch since we’ve had a Currane angler’s point of view on the wild Atlantic Salmon, and one thing’s for sure, the Salmon are feeling the heat as much as we are. Low water, bright skies, and a stubborn northerly don’t exactly inspire them to show themselves. Still, that’s fishing: the waiting, the watching, and the hope that the next cast will break the silence

Now Currane angler has view,I hear the draft nets have had a record year, filling their quotas in no time and with top quality salmon to boot. Yet we anglers aren’t allowed keep a single fish in September. How can that be right? The weather has been brutal for fishing, the rod effort is tiny, and still the rule stands. Meanwhile hundreds of salmon are taken in the drift nets, and we can’t keep even one. It’s a bloody disgrace, plain and simple. Tom.

14/7/2026. There were no reports from the Currane anglers, and when the only word from a Currane angler is that you’d be better off heading downstream to the Wild Atlantic, because the Bass are giving great sport, that just about sums up today’s action on the lake. Now we head for the Currane anglers’ weather chart: wind gentle to moderate ESE, veering SE, all wrapped in bright sunshine.

Yesterday’s weather, rainfall 0.0mm, maximum air temperature 28.4°C, and a whopping 15 hours and one minute of sunshine.

Currane angler Mr. Bob White, RIP, always fished Lough Currane on his birthday, and today marks his Heavenly Birthday. Well Bob, you may be gone, but you certainly will not be forgotten. Your rod may be resting, but your spirit is still casting over Currane.

13/7/2026. Just one Currane boat ventured out from the North on this blazing, blue‑sky day. I’d say the suntan was fierce but the lines were slack, the fish clearly took the same lazy approach as the rest of the parish.

Today’s weather chart: moderate to gentle to light to gentle ESE wind, veering East, then SSW, then WSW, all under bright sunshine from dawn to dusk.
Yesterday’s stats: 0.0 mm rainfall, maximum air temperature 30.0°C, and a scorching 15 hours of sunshine, tropical Currane strikes again.

12/7/2026. No reports today, the Currane fleet was either bound for Croke Park or glued to the big Kerry v Dublin clash in the bars. And I can confirm the bars were in mighty form last night after Kerry’s good win, followed by a touch of controversy to keep the tongues wagging.

11/7/2026. Just one boat out from the North and no reports of any C&R on this hot sunny day. Wind light NNE yesterday's weather amount of rainfall none, amount of sunshine, maximum air temperature 26.2C⁰, amount of sunshine 10 hours 5 minutes.

10/7/2026. There were three boats out on the lake today, and sadly the Currane reels remained as silent as a church mouse. All lines were slack, and not a Salmon or Sea Trout saw fit to disturb the peace. As for the weather chart of the day, we were treated to light variable winds from the NNE, drifting about under light cloud, pleasant enough for the angler, but clearly not persuasive enough for the fish. Yesterday’s weather.
Rainfall, 0.4 mm, Max air temperature: 20.4°C, Sunshine: 9 hours and 4 minutes. And before anyone starts writing off July entirely, let’s not forget last week’s action, when Currane produced a respectable six Salmon and two C&R sea trout. Proof, if ever needed, that the lake still has a few tricks up its sleeve.

 9/7/2026. Three Currane boats ventured out today, but alas, their lines spent the whole shift doing impressions of a wet shoelace, slack from dawn to dusk. As for the weather, it was a classic Currane conundrum, light to gentle variable winds flicking between WNW, West, and back again, all under a blazing canopy of bright sunshine that refused to budge. Yesterday’s weather, amount of raimfall 0.5mm, Maximum air temperature: 19.5°C, Sunshine: 5 hours 4 minutes. In short, the lake was calm, the sky was smug, and the anglers were left muttering into their reels. Anglers’ Hot Day Joke of the Day:

Why did the Currane angler bring a frying pan out on the boat?
Because with that sunshine, it was the only chance he had of catching something, even if it was just a fried egg.

8/7/2026. The Currane was all quiet in all departments, with not a whisper of action to report. So, straight to the weather we go. Conditions were light to gentle and variable from the WNW, veering W, back to WNW, and settling again to W, all under a mix of good sunshine and cloud cover. As for yesterday’s weather: rainfall came to a mere 0.1mm, the maximum air temperature reached 17.3°C, and sunshine amounted to 3 hours and 5 minutes.

6/7/2026. The Currane anglers’ binoculars were as blank as their reels today, with not a hint of action to raise the heartbeat or the hopes. As for the weather, the chart tells its own story, a light to gentle SW breeze veering WSW, keeping the lake in a mild, unhurried mood. Low cloud dominated overhead, though the sun did manage to slip through now and again, just enough to remind everyone it still existed. Yesterday’s weather facts, 1.0 hours of sunshine and a maximum air temperature of 18.1°C. hardly tropical, but enough to keep the anglers muttering about “if only”.

5 July 2026. With no reports from the Currane anglers this day, we head straight to the weather desk. The wind began in the West, later veering WSW, staying light to gentle throughout. Conditions were dominated by heavy cloud at times, though the sun made several welcome breakthroughs as the day went on. As for yesterday’s weather, the rainfall clocked in at 1.1mm, and the maximum air temperature reached 17.0°C. Another quiet day on the lake, but the weather chart kept us honest.

I was on the lake about two weeks ago, and as I was coming off the water I think I may have witnessed some illegal activity. I didn’t think much of it at the time, but after reading your report, the memory sharpened. I remember seeing two lads, and I found myself asking why they were out there so late in the evening.

3 July 2026. The Currane anglers headed out this morning with six boats drifting and casting their lines, but sadly there were no reports of any C&R Salmon or Sea Trout. However, there was a bit of disserving news from one angler, and I quote: “Hi Vincent, I was around the Holly, looked like it was poached last night. Loads of old twigs and weeds floating.”
Not exactly the sort of message that brightens a July evening, but it’s on the record.
Heading downstream, one angler fished the Butler’s Pool, and as of now there are no reports of any C&R there either.

 2/7/2026. My apologies for not reporting yesterday’s facts, all I can say is that two Currane boats ventured out, but not a whisper of a C&E for Salmon or Sea Trout came across the wire. Back to today, six boats took to the lake, yet once again no reports of C&R, so we head straight for the Currane weather chart. Wind was a gentle NNW, accompanied by bright sunshine that would make any angler think the fish were sunbathing rather than biting.Yesterday’s weather, Rainfall amounted to 1.2mm, maximum air temperature reached 17.2°C, and sunshine was recorded at a grand total of 1 minute.17.2°C, amount of sunshine 1 minute.
