22/9/2026. No reports from the Currane anglers on today’s action, so we head straight to the Currane weather chart. Light to gentle southerly wind veered SSW, accompanied by heavy cloud cover, with the sun breaking through only on rare occasionsm, and with great difficulty at that. Yesterday’s weather, rainfall 0.7mm, maximum air temperature 18.1°C, and 3 hours of sunshine.

21/9/2026. Just six Currane boats ventured out, and all their lines stayed slack from start to finish. You could say the anglers’ blood pressure rose faster than any wild Currane fish bothered to. As for the weather, variable gentle winds, South veering SSW and back again, with a mix of reasonable cloud and sunshine.Yesterday’s conditions saw 0.4mm of rainfall, a maximum air temperature of 17.8°C, and, believe it or not, just 0.1 minute of sunshine. 20/9/2026. Seven Currane boats took to the lake today, but the C&R department remained as quiet as a church mouse, no reports, no action, not even a whisper of a salmon. On that note, we head straight to the Currane anglers’ weather chart, variable light to moderate winds from the South, veering SE, SSE, S, and back to SSE, all under heavy cloud cover throughout the day, with misty rain drifting in and out during the afternoon.

Yesterday’s weather: rainfall 0.6mm, maximum air temperature 17.8°C, and not a glimmer of sunshine.

A day so dull even the fish couldn’t be bothered to rise, typical Currane mischief.

19/9/2026. Six Currane boats took to the lake, and while it was great to see a bit of life on the water, the only reward was a few Brownies, hardly enough to raise the anglers’ spirits. On that note, we head straight for the Currane anglers’ weather chart, a moderate West wind held its ground throughout the day, accompanied by good cloud cover and little to no sunshine. Yesterday’s weather tells its own story, 3.2mm of rainfall, a maximum air temperature of 17.4°C, and zero sunshine recorded. A quiet day on the lake, and by the looks of it, the weather wasn’t exactly shouting encouragement either.

18/9/2026. The Currane anglers were all quiet in all departments, but as I always say, that doesn’t mean there weren’t a few Noble catch‑and‑releases sneaking about like poachers in the fog. Today’s weather, a fresh SW wind veering WSW, heavy cloud parked overhead, and misty rain drifting in just enough to make you wonder if the lake was trying to join in the fishing. Yesterday’s stats, rainfall 0.2mm, max air temp 16.5°C, and sunshine 0.7 minutes, which is technically a “sunny spell,” though you’d need a stopwatch and a bit of luck to witness it.

Cheeky joke of the day comes from a Currane angler.

One angler said the lake was so calm and quiet he could hear a pin drop. Another replied, “That’s because it was your hopes of catching a salmon hitting the bottom

 17//9/2026. Just one Currane boat out and just couple of C&R trout and just for the record the upper have been producing some nice catches in the past few days. today’s Currane anglers weather chart, variable Fresh wind blowing from the NW veered WNW, NW, WNW, followed by good cloud cover throughout the day with a touch of sunshine at times. Yesterday’s weather, amount of rainfall 3.3mm, maximum air temperature 16.7°C, amount of sunshine 0.9 minutes.

16/9/2026. Three Currane boats ventured out, but alas, the lake kept its secrets and no reports were filed. As for the Inny, the farmer confirms a couple of C&R anglers were on duty, and yes it was the same old story, if you catch my drift. Tight lines, silent fish.

 15/9/2026. No reports from the Currane anglers and the same for Inny and the Commeragh.

14/9/2026

14/9/2026. Just two Currane boats out today, and going by all accounts one boat reported a respectable catch of three trout, the best tipping the scales at 2½ lbs. As for the Inny, no official reports came down the line, but you can be sure a few anglers had their C&R hats firmly on. And with the good downfall this afternoon, there should be a few Salmon caught and released tomorrow, if Lady Luck decides to clock in.

A variable Moderate to Fresh Southerly wind, veering SSW, SW, and WSW, accompanied by heavy cloud throughout the day, and topped off with a good flood to finish proceedings.

 13/9/2026. Five Currane boats ventured out, and alas, not a whisper of action from either fly or troll. In fairness to the fly anglers, there wasn’t a breath of wind to help them, unless you count the gusts created when they were effing and blinding at their drifting woes.Today’s Currane weather chart, a variable breeze ranging from Light to Gentle, SSE veering S, S, SSW, and SW. Conditions were marked by good cloud cover, misty rain, and the sun breaking through on occasion, all wrapped in a blanket of heavy humidity.Yesterday’s weather, rainfall measured at 7.8 mm, maximum air temperature 19.7°C, and sunshine amounted to a grand total of 0.2 minutes, barely enough to tan a midge. And to finish, an Irish fishing joke for good measure: A Kerryman was asked if he ever talked to the fish while out trolling. “Only once,” he said. “And what did the fish say?”

“Nothing… the Fecker was ignoring me like everyone else on the lake.”

12/0/2026. Just four Currane boats out today, with only a few Trout reported. On that note, we head straight to the C&R River Inny. There were a good few anglers up on the banks today, all hoping to bank their catch‑and‑releases, and going by the Inny Farmer’s account he had no report of any Salmon C&R.
“Well Vincent, I may not have seen any C&R Salmon,” he said, “but you can bank it there were a few caught and released.”Just for the record, there was a good amount of rain this morning, with the amount to be confirmed in tomorrow’s report, and there was a nice flow in the Inny this afternoon. Now for the Currane anglers’ weather chart, Wind fresh to moderate, then gentle, then back to moderate, gentle, fresh, and finally gentle again. WSW veered SW at 6pm.  11/9/2026. Just the odd trout reported, and one fine Grilse of 4–5 lbs caught on the troll. There were six Currane boats out, so we’ll head straight to the Currane Anglers Weather Chart, wind variable, light to gentle to moderate, with good cloud cover and plenty of sunshine throughout the day. 10/9/2026. Straight to the backdate, on Tuesday, Mr. Michael O’Sullivan and his guest had two catch‑and‑release Grilse on the Butler Pool. Back to today’s action, one Currane angler got off to a fine start this morning with a C&R Salmon in the 7–8 lb class on the troll, and come afternoon he followed it up in style with a 6–7 lb Salmon on the fly. Just for the record, there were four Currane boats out today. Now we head upstream to the Commeragh River, where two anglers were out this evening, no reports as of yet. As for the Inny, the Inny Farmer reports a couple of anglers were casting away, and yes, you’ve guessed it, no reports there either. Apologies for the lack of a Currane weather chart, came back late         .

 9/9/2026. There were five Currane boats out on the lake today, with just a few trout reported. As for the world‑famous Butler’s Pool, one angler had two Salmon, both of which were safely released back into the river. From there we head to the C&R River Inny, where the farmer reports only a couple of anglers out and, sadly, no catches to report. Cutting across the valley to the C&R Commeragh, one angler was fishing there this evening, but again no reports of any action. Now for the Currane anglers’ weather chart, variable light airs to moderate winds from the W, veering WNW, W, WSW, SW, SSW, and back to SW, with light showers throughout the day and the sun breaking through on the odd occasion. Yesterday’s weather, rainfall 3.4mm, maximum air temperature 16.3°C, and 4 hours 7 minutes of sunshine.

8/9/2026. I got no reports from the Currane anglers today, and the Inny Farmer didn’t report any C&R Salmon either. That said, with a hefty 16.0mm of rainfall yesterday evening, you can take it as red that the Currane anglers had their Inny C&R hats firmly on. Now for the Currane anglers’ weather chart, Moderate to fresh NNW wind, showers drifting through the day, and the sun making the odd brave appearance. Yesterday’s weather, rainfall already mentioned, maximum air temperature 17.4°C, and no sunshine recorded.

7/9/2026. Three Currane boats ventured out today, and while the lake kept its secrets, the Inny was livelier. The Inny Farmer reported a good few C&R anglers working the river, though I didn’t hear of any Salmon being officially caught and released. That said, you can take it for granted that the odd fish was quietly C&R, the Inny rarely lets a crowd go home entirely empty‑handed. Now for today’s Currane anglers’ weather chart, a Fresh WSW wind dominated before veering NW late this afternoon. Yesterday’s weather, rainfall 5.6mm, maximum air temperature 19.2°C, and a grand total of 0.1 minute of sunshine, hardly enough to tan a mackerel

6/9/2026. The Currane scene was as quiet as a church mouse today, and for good reason, most of the anglers had abandoned ship and marched straight for the C&R river Inny. As the Inny Farmer himself put it, “I didn’t see any C&R,” but as we both know, that doesn’t mean their lines weren’t tight. Silence from the river doesn’t always mean inactivity; sometimes it just means the anglers are keeping their cards close to their chest. 🎣 Currane Anglers Weather Chart, Variable wind, Fresh to Gentle, starting in the S, then veering SSW, SW, WSW, W, and finally WNE.  4/9/2026. Just a few Currane boats out and all lines were slack. So straight to the C&R River Inny we go. The Inny Farmer reports one C&R Salmon, and just for the record, there were a few anglers up there manipulating their skills. Now straight to the Currane Anglers Weather Chart: wind Moderate to Fresh, cloudy, with the sun breaking through at times in the afternoon. Yesterday’s Weather,

Well said David, time to start all of Vincent’s blogs with a reminder to all of the immense damage these factories continue to cause. I would not call them farms. We need to keep up the pressure until the politicians realise there are votes at stake and the general public realise the consequences. Just for the record, well said, and I agree without any fear of contradiction.

 3/9/2026. No reports from the Currane anglers, and I’d say they had their C&R River Inny hats firmly on. Sadly, there were no reports from the Inny Farmer either, but that doesn’t mean there weren’t a few C&R Salmon quietly accounted for. Now to the Currane anglers’ weather chart: Moderate wind WSW veering SW, with overcast conditions throughout the day. Yesterday’s weather: rainfall 4.6mm, maximum air temperature 19.1°C, and the grand total of sunshine was just 1 minute.

Straight to the world‑famous Butler’s Pool and to our friends at watervillegolflinks.ie, great to report that there were a couple of catch‑and‑release Salmon landed there today. Now we head for the C&R Inny, where the Inny farmer reports at least three Salmon released. And just for the record, there was a nice flood last night with 17.3mm of rainfall. I said to the Inny farmer that might be an understatement, he can say it, but I can’t. No reports from the Currane anglers.Yesterday’s weather, Max air temperature: 18.0°C, Sunshine: 3 minutes. Hi Vincent, I’ve just seen that the fish farm at Deenish Island has been granted a new licence. Has Ireland gone mad altogether? How can the country keep approving these farms while wild Salmon and Sea Trout stocks collapse? It’s unbelievable that we’re still watching salmon farms wipe out the very fish Ireland is supposed to protect.
As for Salmon Watch Ireland — well, I genuinely don’t know what they’re at. From where I’m standing, they seem more interested in pushing regulations on anglers than tackling the real threats. Illegal fishing continues, illegal drift netting continues, and yet the pressure always seems to land on the ordinary angler and the visiting angler who supports rural communities. Stopping an angler from keeping one Salmon in September is ridiculous when you look at what’s happening elsewhere.
And another thing: how come Salmon Watch Ireland have never once commented on, supported, or even acknowledged the destruction these fish farms are causing on your blog? Very suspicious behaviour for an organisation supposedly defending wild Salmon.
Ireland needs real protection for its rivers, lakes, and coastal waters, not more licences, more silence, and more rules aimed at the wrong people.

1/9/2026. The Currane diary opened with yesterday’s efforts: four boats out, all tight‑lipped, and a couple of fly anglers on the Inny who were equally silent. Not a whisper, not a murmur, not even a rumour of a fish misbehaving.
Back to today and, well, the Currane anglers continued their vow of silence. Not a single report, which tells you either the fish weren’t playing ball or the anglers were too embarrassed to admit it.
As for the weather, today’s Currane anglers chart read like wind‑dance: variable breezes, Gentle to Moderate, swinging SW to WSW, back to SW, then WSW again, finishing with a final flourish of SW. All under a blanket of overcast skies that never lifted their mood.
Yesterday’s weather, rainfall 1.0mm, maximum air temperature 17.4°C, and 3 hours of sunshine, which is more than the anglers had bites. The Currane anglers Joke of the Day, If the Currane silence keeps up, we’ll have to start issuing the anglers with confession cards, “Forgive me Father, for I have not caught.”

31/8/2026. Sad News from the Waterville Fishery
There will be no fishing reports from Lough Currane today.
It is with great sadness that I record the passing of Mr. John McSweeney, RIP, of Inniscarra, Cork / Mourneabbey, Cork, who sadly left us on the 28th of August.
John was a true Currane angler at heart. He loved his fishing on the Waterville Fishery, especially the upper lakes, and of course Lough Currane itself. His great friend Mr. Vincent Donnelly has his say.
“John, RIP, fished with me and our good friend Michael for a good many years 27 to be precise. We started coming down to the Waterville Fishery most weekends. Rest in Peace, John. Your good friends have great memories.”
On behalf of the Waterville Fishery and all Currane anglers, we extend our sincere sympathies to all of John’s family and friends.
