Martin of the UK
Greg of the UK
30/6/15 Straight to the Sea Trout department, Mr. Merick Parsons, caught 2 Sea Trout both in the 2 lbs. class, while fishing with his Gillie Mr. Neil O’Shea of www.oshealoughcurrane.com Now for a mixture of Salmon and Sea Trout, Mr. Martin  Sutton caught a fine Sea Trout on the drift on a Green Peter Muddler, using a floating line and his Father Mr. Greg Sutton finished their day off with a lightening fresh 4 ½ lbs. Salmon Grilse on the troll and in the words of their Gillie Mr. Tom O’Shea of www.flyfishingatloughcurrane.com we should have had two Salmon for the day, but as they say, that’s fishing. Staying with the fly, Mr. Garry O’Hagan caught a fine 4 lbs. Sea Trout on a Thunder and lightening on a floating line and his Gillie MD was telling me that they lost 5 more good fish of which some were Salmon. Now to the River department, which river I couldn’t tell you and yes you have it, Mike the Bull was in great form with the Black Birds Fancy and his floating line and for good reason, he caught another fine Salmon in the 8 lbs. Class, when I asked Mike where did he catch his fish, he replied that’s like a red rag to a Bull and I have only one thing to say, No comment. Wind SE then veered SW light to calm and overcast.

Breaking News, just in from Lough Currane, Mr. Andrew Brown, fly fishing with his Gillie Mr. Bob Priestley, caught and released a fine 5 lbs. Salmon / Grilse and yesterday C&R a 4 lbs. Sea Trout.

29/6/15 Mike the Bull of Waterville and Tralee, takes all the head lines in the Salmon department, when interviewing Mike, I asked where did he catch his fish, he replied all I can tell you, I caught it on a Black Birds Fancy on a floating line and the rest as you would say is classified information, so on that note we head out onto Lough Currane, there was just a few Juniors caught. On the weather front there was very low cloud and misty rain for most of the day, with a strong southerly wind.

 Dion
Nathan
28/6/15 The Bungalow takes all the headlines and for a great reason, two young Anglers caught their first Salmon, first in my striking zone is Mr. Nathan Bratton, caught a fine 4 lbs. Grilse on the troll, while fishing with his Gillie Mr. Neil O’Shea of www.oshealoughcurrane.com and the action didn’t stop there because Nathan’s cousin, Dion Dennehy fishing with his Gillie Mr. Tom O’Shea of www.flyfishingatloughcurrane.com caught a cracker of a Salmon on the troll in the 8lbs.class. On a personal note, congratulations to the both of them and its great to see young Anglers take up the Game fishing mantle. On the Sea Trout front just a few Juniors caught but nothing that would make the Game Fishing journal and if there was, they failed miserably in their duties, as I say that I have just received a Text from the hired out boat and fly department of www.lakelandshouse.com that, Mr. Barry Vaughan and Mr. Leon Smith caught 2 fine Sea Trout in the 2 lbs. Class. Now to the apology department, yesterday I made a technical mess up in the www.lakelandshouse.com notes, I got all the anglers names wrong and for good reason not watching what I was doing sorry for that Barry and John especially after Frankie gave me the facts three times. On the weather front, wind SW fresh reasonable cloud cover at times but mainly sunny and just for the record it made a flood yesterday, amount of rainfall was 15 mm.

Staying with the fly, Mr. Andrew Brown, fishing with his Gillie Mr. Bob Priestley, caught and released  2 ½ 4 ½  lbs. Sea Trout and finished their day off by caching and releasing a fine Grilse of 3 ½ lbs. and Andrew was telling me that, yesterday they released 1 Grilse /Salmon of 4 ½ and a Junior. Also in good form today were two anglers fishing on their own, they caught two Salmon and two Sea Trout, the anglers in question don’t want their names on line, all I can say is they had plenty of Game fish on a floating line. Mr. Peter Kiernan caught a fine 3 ½ lbs. Sea Trout on a Bibio, on a floating line, while fishing with his Gillie Mr. John Murphy. Now to the trolling department and catch of the day, Mr. Martin Coveney of Cork, fishing with his Gillie Mr. Tom O’Shea of www.flyfishingatloughcurrane.com caught two fine Salmon on the troll both in the 7 lbs. and 8 lbs. Their choice of flies were in the classified information department, the only bit of info I got was they were caught on a floating line and two were caught on a intermediate fly line, all I can say on their fly selection, it was a Neil special with an Italian connection. Now we head for the south side and the hired out Sea Trout boat department of www.lakelandshouse.com Luxemburg anglers Ernie and Bob both caught 1 Sea Trout on the fly each, both in the 2 ½ lbs. class. Also in good form in Franks hired out boat department was Mr. Bill Bullock, who caught two Sea Trout both in the 3 ½ lbs. class  and last but not least, UK Angler, Mr. Barry Vaughan, caught two 3lbs. 19/6/15

19/6/15 My Noble Anglers failed miserably in all departments but to be fair it wasn’t a great day with very low cloud and a light wind from the West and very humid, my Noble Game Fish were as lethargic as the Anglers so on that note I will head for the apology department again and yes you have it another technical cock-up on my part. I start in the Salmon/Grilse department, Local Angler Dr. Jim Commerford caught a Salmon/Grilse on the troll. And in the Sea Trout department Mr. Michael O’Sullivan the Commander-in-chief of Waterville Boats and at watervilleboats@gmail.com caught a fine 3lbs. Sea Trout on the Fly and I can tell you he wasn’t amused, all I can say is sorry for these discrepancies’ just for the record they were caught last week. Now to the personal department I would like to Wish on behalf of all Anglers from Ireland and overseas, Mr. Paul Burke of the Inland Fisheries a great retirement and plenty of tight lines so I will let Paul have the last word on today’s notes
Finally, this is my last Angling Update as I retire today after 40 years in the fisheries service.  I began the Irish Angling Update back in 1989 under the guidance of the late Kevin Linanne and ably assisted by staff of the Central and Regional Fisheries Board staff all through the years.  In Inland Fisheries Ireland this work continues to bring you the best of what Ireland has to offer you on a weekly basis.  My thanks to all the contributors over the years and please contact Myles Kelly( myles.kelly@fisheriesireland.ie ) or Nancy Hearne  ( nancy.hearne@fisheriesireland.ie ) who will continue to bring you the very best of Irish Angling along with my many colleagues and other contributors.
I am off to enjoy the best of what Irish Angling has to offer so please god I will run across you somewhere but please wear a lifejacket at all times when going afloat in freshwater or at sea,
Safe fishing to all and tight lines, especially here in Ireland.

Staying in Juniors, Mr. Kevin O’Sullivan, yesterday caught 1 C&R Junior on the drift which he was delighted with, and for good reason, his Sea Trout Christened his new Boat, may it be the first of many good days on the premier Sea Trout Lake of Ireland. Wind was all over the place light and mainly overcast with the sun breaking through.

Michael Fish
Michael with his fine
Sea Trout
13/6/15 The conditions were not exactly in favor of the fly anglers, with bright sunshine with a slack ENE wind, but Mr. Enrico Fantasia of Dublin, fishing with his Gillie Mr. Neil O’Shea of www.oshealoughcurrane.com  caught two nice C&R Sea Trout, ranging from 2 lbs. up to 3 lbs. both caught on the fly. Staying with the fly, there were a few smaller Sea Trout caught but nothing that would hit the headlines, so on that note we head for the trolling department and catch of the day and that goes to UK Angler Mr. Michael Fish, while fishing with his Gillie MD, caught a fine Waterville Hatchery Grilse of 5 ½ lbs and finished their day off with a fine Sea Trout of 4 ½ lbs. It just proves even with the elements were against my Noble Anglers, you can catch my Noble Game fish out there if your manipulating your flies or lours.

Garry
with his Grand Slam
Mike
11/6/15 Again anglers were today are preferring to drink in the bars and talk about the one that got away instead of manipulating their flies or lures, well gentlemen you lost out again big time. First in the striking zone with a double grand slam was US Angler Mr. Gary Schwandt, fishing with his gillie Mr. Frank Donnelly of www.lakelandshouse.com caught two fine Salmon /Grilse on the troll, weighing in at 7 lbs. and 5 lbs. Just got back over from the UK and launched my boat this afternoon at Coffey's so  thought I would give it a run out and spend a few hours drowning some flies. As luck would have it second drift I latched into and landed a super fresh hen SeaTrout. Boy it gave a fine scrap.  As it was just a short trip I did not have the damn camera but luckily  I did have my tape measure it went 52cm not sure what weight that equates to but I am pleased to confirm she went back safely to complete her cycle.
All the best John . Wind North light with reasonable cloud cover at times.
