Kevin and member of the Bar Staff show the winning ticket
29/10/16 You can say without any fear of contradiction that the 2016 season has come to an end this Halloween weekend and for good reason the Waterville Lakes and River Trust draw took place in the Lobster Bar this evening and the winning ticket drawn out by a member of the Lobster Bar staff, the Winner was the one and only renowned US and Waterville angler Mr. Donagh McCarthy, so congratulations to him and Tight lines to all anglers for 2017 and lets hope your flies aren’t haunted

12/10/17 News Flash update

Mr. Paul Lawton
As promised here are all the facts of Mr. Paul Lawton and his fishing party and photos on yesterdays catches, the last day of the 2016 season in his own words.

Mr. Ray Burns
Sorry for delay Vincent my phone giving me trouble.
There was 3 us fishing the last day, Donal O Doherty had 1 brown trout 2lbs and 10 juniors to 1.1/2lbs
Ray burns had 7 juniors 1lbs to 3lbs
Myself had 8 juniors 1lb to 6lbs. The majority of the juniors were fresh run fish.
We had great day fishing but sad to see only 2 other boats out.
Finally Vincent I would like to thank you on behalf of the anglers who fish the Great Lake Lough Currane,

for your reports during the year they are great help on weather travel or not. Keep up the good                                                                                      work till next year

12/10/16 On this Last day of the 2016 rising of the wild Game fish of Lough Currane , ie My Nobel Sea Trout, there was only one angler who let his fingers do the talking this day, that was Cork Angler, Mr. Paul Lawton, as he tied a good fly to his cast and striked while the iron was hot and released his catch after his photo has been taken, with his fine catch, he comes out with a wise crack, as he sits back admiring his catch. What can you say for the rest of the anglers, well its simple, not a lot as they looked at Pauls catch. Just for the record there are pictures of Paul’s catch as soon as I have them I will put them up on the Blog. Wind SE. On a personal I would like to thank all the Waterville Fishery Anglers from all over the world for surportnig this site as you all do and I thank you for that. I would also like to thank all the team of the Inland fisheries for their great support to me and the Waterville Fishery this year and last but not least on behalf of all the anglers of Ireland and all the Tourist Anglers, I must say thank you to Mr. Paul Burke who dose all the reports for the Trout and Salmon Magazine. I look forward to reporting all your catches for the 2017 season, so see you on 17/1/17

11/10/16

11/10/16 Their was a strong SE wind out there on Lough Currane today and if there were any boats manipulating I’m sure their reels were as silent as my phone. You don’t have to be a rocket scientist to know that tomorrow is the final day of the Lough Currane 1916 Rising celebrations and It will be interesting who will register the last Game Fish of 2016.

My Noble Salmon  waiting for Alcatraz
10/10/16  Lough Currane was all quiet on the SW front and as I say that the hired out boat department of www.lakelandshouse.com just sent a text in that yesterday, Mr. John Johnson, caught 3 Trout and today caught a basket of 30 Trout all caught on the drift.  Now for all we anglers who detest the dreaded Fish Farms, On my way home to Caherdaniel the other evening, I could see with the naked eye what looked a submarine in the Kenmare Bay, but low and behold when the paparazzi zoomed in with the camera it was one almighty massive Fish Farm being towed into position and as I always say the picture tells you the story and if I’m wrong you could say Alcatraz has come to Kenmare Bay. Weather same as yesterday, the only difference there was more cloud cover.

close up
As the eye sees it
9/10/16 Lough Currane was on the quiet side in the Rod bending department? but the same couldn’t be said for the filming   department. Mr. Peter Murnaghan, of Midas productions and his crew were filming The great Irish Fishing Challenge on Lough Currane today with Lough Currane’s Top Gillie Mr. Dominic McGillicuddy and I can tell you they had some challenge to get their catches on camera but sadly can’t give you these facts in other words you will have to wait until Dominic makes his TV debut on the Great Irish fishing Challenge, but I did have the satisfaction of catching them myself on my camera and as you can see by the pictures, I’m no professional because my Challenge was distance. Now for the Weather the pictures tell the story.

8/10/16

8/10/16 www.lakelandshouse.com take all the head lines and for good reason, in their hired out boat department, Mr. John Johnson, caught well over 30 Trout on the drift in a nice light SE wind with reasonable cloud cover. It just proves if your out there you can catch a few nice trout,  there is nothing like a falling Lake to activate a trout or two and if you click this link, this will give a first class view how fast Lough Currane has fallen in the last 48 hours.

Lough Currane this evening
Looking across at Tub Island
Looking towards Table Rock
7/10/16 All quiet on the SW front and to be fair to all anglers manipulating their flies, their chances are slim and for good reason, Lough Currane and the upper lakes are still dirty after the big flood. Wind SE light to fresh with good cloud cover.

6/10/16

Slowly but surely
6/10/16 Lough Currane was all quiet on the SW front and just to let you know, as you can see by the pictures the 2016 rising of the Currane and the Butler Pool is on the fall. Now for some bad news on the upper lakes, this evening I received a notice from the secretary Mr. Kevin O’Sullivan of  http://watervillelakes.org/  and I quote, Hi Vincent, could you mention on your Blog that due to the extreme height of water & inaccessibility of the boats on the upper lakes we have been forced to cancel all fishing on the upper lakes for the remainder of the season. Thanks, Kevin. Wind SE fresh with good cloud cover,.

A good job done

5/10/16

Waterville House
5/10/16 No reports of any rod benders and to be fair with that big flood that’s not surprising. So we will head for the record breaking rainfalls and its official, Valentia Observatory in Caherciveen Co Kerry has recorded its highest level of rainfall on a single day since records began over 150 years ago and staying with the weather, yesterday there was 51.4 mm of rainfall and you might be interested to know that in the last four days there has been a grand total of 162.9 mm and Lough Currane was still rising today and here a few photos. Wind SE light with reasonable cloud cover.

3/10/16

3/10/16 Lough Currane was at a standstill with a SE gale force wind with heavy rain and I mean heavy as you can see by clicking this link https://m.facebook.com/story.php?story_fbid=10206165522051843&id=1677581848  of the Coppal River, Video courtesy of Mrs. Mary Fitzgerald, this was taken this afternoon and it got worse, because this evening, the Inny Bridge is impassable and closed to traffic due to flooding. So we head for the email department and I quote,

2/10/16

2/10/16 Again my Noble Anglers were left red faced this evening as they entered bars to ponder their misgivings on their performance, as they all failed miserably in their duties in procuring a fine Currane Sea Trout, so on that lackadaisical note we will head up stream to the upper Lakes and Lough Derriana, Dr. Tim O’Connor caught 2 Juniors on the drift, while fishing with his Gillie Mr. Tom O’Shea of www.flyfishingatloughcurrane.com Wind SE fresh with strong gusts at times with good cloud cover.

1/10/16

Catch me if you Can me name is
Paddy,  in 2017
1/10/16 There were a few Boats manipulating with their fly rods, but alas their lines were slack and their choice of fly, leave a lot to be desired, so on that note I have a message for all you doubting Thomas’s, I have had a few emails saying that there was no Bottle of Paddy for the last Salmon caught on the Waterville Fishery for 2016, well the truth of the pudding is in the eating and thankfully Paddy doesn’t have an expiry date so rock on 2017. Wind N light to fresh with reasonable cloud cover at times but mainly sunny.
