I will finish the 2011 season on a personal note. Well it’s the end of the 2011 Season and what a Season we anglers have had, well, I know one Angler, that a great season that was Mr. Sean Smith of Yorkshire England, who caught the record Sea Trout 13lbs5ozs on the fly on Lough Currane fishing with his Gillie Mr. Neil O’Shea, and I might add is the biggest ever Sea Trout caught on a fly in Ireland, so in my book of Honours, Sean is the supreme Sea Trout Angler for 2011 In The Salmon and Gillie department Young Terence Wharton and his Father Mr. Terence Wharton take the honours of the first Salmon caught for 2011 and they crowned that by catching the first Salmon on the fly, the crown for the Biggest Salmon for 2011 goes to Dutch Angler Mr. William Timmermans who caught a fine 15lbs 5ozs Salmon on the troll with his Gillie Mr. Neil O’Shea and of www.oshealoughcurrane.com and for the rest of we Anglers who didn’t make the Honours list I hope you have butter luck in 2012 as always we anglers headed for the Lobster Bar for the traditional Bacon and cabbage and as always it was first class, so a big thanks to Mr. and Mrs. Denis O’Carroll and their staff for a great evening. Well its that time of year again and the 2011 Salmon Season has ended not with a bang but with a great end of season Party at the Waterville Inn and a good party was had by all, now to the Salmon and Sea Trout results, I start on the Big Lake/Lough Currane. Lough Currane was at stand still with a strong SW wind blowing down the Lake, but at least you cold fish the South side, Local, Gillie Mr. Sylvester Donnelly and his Client caught a few Juniors and Sylvester was telling me that they rose a good few Sea Trout, no we will cut across the Valley to the River Inny as did the majority of Anglers, and here our the results as I know them, So far there has been one Salmon recorded by Mr. Ivor O’Connor, who caught a 8lbs Salmon while spinning, and just for the record the amount of anglers fishing on the Inny I am sure there would have been a few more salmon procured and considering there was first class Water they have no excuse. Wind as all ready stated. As I am sure you all now that the back end of Hurricane Katia is going to us in the next 48 hours, so if tomorrow’s notes are not up as usual, you will know my net is down, but I hope yours will be full, so tight lines.

Lough Currane was at stand still with a strong SW wind blowing down the Lake, but at least you cold fish the South side, Local, Gillie Mr. Sylvester Donnelly and his Client caught a few Juniors and Sylvester was telling me that they rose a good few Sea Trout, no we will cut across the Valley to the River Inny as did the majority of Anglers, and here our the results as I know them, So far there has been one Salmon recorded by Mr. Ivor O’Connor, who caught a 8lbs Salmon while spinning, and just for the record the amount of anglers fishing on the Inny I am sure there would have been a few more salmon procured and considering there was first class Water they have no excuse. Wind as all ready stated. As I am sure you all now that the back end of Hurricane Katia is going to us in the next 48 hours, so if tomorrow’s notes are not up as usual, you will know my net is down, but I hope yours will be full, so tight lines.

4/9/11 Look at yestedays notes
It was a wild day on Lough Currane today even though a few boats headed out this morning, but come lunch time thy were all blown off, so we will head for the River Inny, and that didn’t fair much better because it made a flood this morning so the river was dirty for a while. But one Angler did catch a fine grilse on the lower reaches just before it got dirty, and that was local Angler Mr. Mike Thian. Wind SW Strong and overcast with heavy showers throughout the day. Just for the record fish may have been caught on the river Inny late this afternoon and evening so watch this space.

3/9/11 Breaking News All quiet my Foot
There was some cracking fishing Around the Waterville Fishery today, so we will start with the lake, in the specimen Sea Trout department, Mr Edwin O’Connor caught a cracker of a Sea Trout on the fly weighing in at 10 lbs 6ozs fishing in a hired out boat from Waterville Boats and @ watervilleboats@gmail.com and there was another 10lbs Sea Trout also on the fly, now we will cut across the Valley to the River Inny and catch of the day, and that goes to Young Archie Curnow of the UK because he caught two cracking fish weighing in at 11.5lbs and 8.5lbs and his uncle, Mr. John Curnow, finished day off with a Grilse on the fly

an extension to the season has now been granted, by the Minister, to bring the closing date back to its historic date of the 12th October. It should be noted that this extension will only apply to fishing for Sea Trout with the fly. Congratulations to both our Chairman, Michael Roden and our hard working Secretary, Kevin O'Sullivan, in achieving what many thought to be impossible and that includes the upper lakes so to all you Noble Game Anglers who like the Upper Lakes you want to book now, going by what I hear there going fast. All the head lines go to Liam Brick who caught his first ever salmon on the troll today fishing with his Father Mr. Sean Brick and may it be the first of many. On the Sea Trout front there a few caught but nothing that would hit the head lines as of yet. Now to the DVD fishing department I was very kindly given a DVD from Mr. Richie Johnston and @ info@anglersview.tv on Follow the fly A Mayfly Season in Ireland and I can tell its worth getting and there nothing like watching the experts with film and fly and that’s a fact.

On the Sea Trout front very little action because of the wild conditions, but the same couldn’t be said upstream on the upper Lakes, on Lough Derriana Mr. Tom Aharne and Mr. Joe Barry caught 6 Sea Trout ranging from 4lbs down to juniors.

The 2011 Seatrout Catch and Release Competition was voted by all as a resounding success for the Waterville Fisheries Development Group! Thirty anglers took part in the competition over the 12th and 13th August in what can only be described as very adverse weather conditions! A total of 42 fish were landed and released by the competitiors over the two days. The greatest number of fish was caught by Eddie Blanche who, as a result, won the coveted first prize, a John Meagher Anglers Fancy Lake Boat! The biggest sea trout of the competition, at 46 cm, was caught by Denis O’Sullivan. There were seven other prize winners and the final results are printed below.
The prize giving dinner at the Waterville Inn, on Saturday evening, turned into a great event with an excellent atmosphere and good food and wine. Our thanks have been extended to the Watervlle Inn and its staff for the excellent service they provided. Our thanks are also due to Vincent Appleby who tirelessly toured the lake on the competition days photographing competitors in their natural element! Its worth mentioning that all the photos reproduced on this website this year are courtesy of Vincent!
The competition has raised almost €3000 for the Waterville Fisheries Development Group and this will be used to further its work in managing and enhancing this fabulous fishery.

On the Sea Trout front just the odd Sea Trout caught but nothing that would head Lines and talking of head lines here are the Renaults of the Lough Currane Fly Fishing Championship 2011

The 2011 Seatrout Catch and Release Competition was voted by all as a resounding success for the Waterville Fisheries Development Group! Thirty anglers took part in the competition over the 12th and 13th August in what can only be described as very adverse weather conditions! A total of 42 fish were landed and released by the competitiors over the two days. The greatest number of fish was caught by Eddie Blanche who, as a result, won the coveted first prize, a John Meagher Anglers Fancy Lake Boat! The biggest sea trout of the competition, at 46 cm, was caught by Denis O’Sullivan. There were seven other prize winners and the final results are printed below.
The prize giving dinner at the Waterville Inn, on Saturday evening, turned into a great event with an excellent atmosphere and good food and wine. Our thanks have been extended to the Watervlle Inn and its staff for the excellent service they provided. Our thanks are also due to Vincent Appleby who tirelessly toured the lake on the competition days photographing competitors in their natural element! Its worth mentioning that all the photos reproduced on this website this year are courtesy of Vincent!
The competition has raised almost €3000 for the Waterville Fisheries Development Group and this will be used to further its work in managing and enhancing this fabulous fishery.

There were a few Sea Trout caught but nothing that would hit the head lines, so straight to the River Inny where Mr. Kevin Brain his Son Sian caught two fine Salmon on the fly and just for the record there have been well over 20 Salmon plus caught in the last three days.

There was some good fishing on the Waterville Fishery today, and I will start on the Big Lake/Lough Currane where there was some great action in the fly department, and the King of the Fly, goes to Mr. Ian Garratt of Dublin who caught his first ever Salmon the fly and not satisfied with one, Ian caught 3 more Salmon which he sportingly put back and his Gillie Mr. Michael O’Sullivan and @ watervilleboats@gmail.com was telling me that also rose 2 more, when asked where did they catch their fish Mr. Michael replied that’s classified, so on that note I will head for the Sea trout Department, no reports of any real rod Benders’ now we cut across the valley to the River Inny and fish of the day goes to Mr. Michael Roden who caught a fine 12lbs Salmon, also in good form was Mr. Martin Clancy of Cork who caught a 8.5lbs Salmon and finished his day off with 2 Sea Trout in the 2lbs class. Wind WNW then veered WSW late this afternoon light to fresh and overcast with light misty rain this afternoon.

Wind SSE fresh to strong with heavy rain at times, Amount of rainfall 8.2mm. Max air temperature 16.7c.

Very few boats out manipulating on Lough Currane, all I can tell you that I was out with a Gentlemen and his 2 Sons from the USA and they were unlucky because we lost a fine Salmon on the troll, but sadly losses don’t count, and we finished the day off with a nice Sea Trout in the 1lbs class which was put back to fight another day, now to the River Inny and there was a fine Salmon caught by our Chairmen Mr. Michael Roden fishing with his Gillie Mr. Junior Scully, the maestro of the River Inny and that is a fact and I have spoken and that’s it. Now just to let all you anglers know there is a lot of hard work in keeping the Sea Trout streams clean and hear is some photos of that great team, that do all the hard work so we can have good fishing and keep catching those great specimens. Wind NW light to fresh with the odd heavy shower.

There wasn’t much action on Lough Currane and with little to no wind that is not surprising and what wind was there was coming from the NW light to calm with the odd heavy shower, plus they had the Waterville Regatta today, so on that note I will cut across the valley to the River Inny, there was a fine Grilse caught by a Dutch Angler fishing with his Gillie Mr. Frank Donnelly and @ www.lakelandshouse.com

The Swiss Flag was fly flying high over Lough Currane today, Lionel, Caught a fine Grilse on the troll with his Gillie Mr. Neil O’Shea and @ www.oshealoughcurrane.com now to the loss department, Mr. Dan Sugrue fishing with his Gillie Mr. Brod O’Sullivan of Stella Maris Guest house, lost a fine Salmon on the troll, they reckoned it was in the 10lbs class, sorry lads losses don’t count. Wind NW with reasonable cloud cover. On the rain front there was heavy rain early this morning but sadly it didn’t last, but at least it made a small flood.

Dr. Tim Gleason, caught 2 fine Grilse on the fly with his Gillie Mr. Mike O’Dwyer, also in good form with the fly, was Mr. Dave Bourke who caught a fine 5.5lbs Grilse in the Mouth of the Commeragh, fishing with his Gillie Mr. Frank Donnell and of www.lakelandshouse.com In the Sea Trout department again just the odd Junior caught.
