12/10/15 On this last day of the 2015 season the only boat to record a catch were Mr. Michael Smith and his Son, record Sea Trout holder Mr. Sean Smith of the UK and Ireland, they caught 3 Trout all while fishing with their Gillie Mr. Neil O’Shea of www.oshealoughcurrane.com  and all were put back and for the rest of the angling manipulators thy failed in all departments, if you get my drift. Wind East light. On a personal note as always I have enjoyed giving all the facts on the No Spin No Fly’s Zone. To All you Anglers that took the time to send your reports and photos in, a great thanks for that, because you the readers that makes this all worthwhile and I thank you for that and last but not least I would like thank all the team in the Inland fisheries at http://www.fisheriesireland.ie/ for their great help this 2015, just one more thing in the next few days I might have some updates on this last day so watch this space and I will see you on January 17th  2016 we will celebrate the 1916 rising of the Salmon.

11/10/15 UK Angler Mr. Sean Smith, fishing with his gillie Mr. Neil O’Shea of www.oshealoughcurrane.com caught a couple of sea trout to his rod and for the rest of the angling community all quiet on the SW front. Wind East light and overcast.

8/10/15 Just like to say Yesterday I failed to mention the most important two of young James’s Family and that is his two young Daughters, all I can say is sorry for that, but you can say one thing my friends, your Dad James may be gone but not forgotten.



Now as promised all the facts of the last two days. 7/10/15 Mr. Sean Brick of Tralee, while fishing on Lough Derriana with his Gillie Mr. Tom O’Shea of www.flyfishingatloughcurrane.com caught and released a fine Sea Trout of 3 lbs. Now we head down stream to Lough Currane on the 7/10/15 UK angler Mr. Sea Smith, caught two trout, while fishing with his Gillie Mr. Neil O’Shea of www.oshealoughcurrane.com 8/10/15 UK angler Mr. Sean Smith, while fishing with his Gillie Mr. Neil O’Shea of www.oshealoughcurrane.com again caught two Trout to his rod and just for the record Sean had a good battle with a Lough Currane Game fish in the past few days and his Gillie reckoned that Sean’s fish was in double figures, but the fish won the day. Wind South light with reasonable cloud cover.

7/10/15 I missed yesterdays notes because of the sad news that Mr. James O’Sullivan of Waterville, past away suddenly. James is the Son of local Gillie Mr  & Mrs. Vincent O’Sullivan and not forgetting his Brother Vincent and Sisters, Sonia, Gemma and Marita and all their family and on behalf of all the good people of Waterville and Caherdaniel and the whole of Co Kerry I send our deepest sympathies to all the O’Sullivan Family. Well James you may have left this beautiful fishery but I will always remember seeing you fish off Darby’s Island trying to catch that Salmon. I will put all the fishing facts in tomorrow notes.

5/10/15 Again the Bungalow takes all the head lines in the Sea Trout C&R fly department, first in the striking zone was Mr. Enrico Fantasia of Dublin, while fishing with his Gillie Mr. Tom O’Shea of www.flyfishingatloughcurrane.com caught 5 Juniors. Staying at the Bungalow UK Angler and fly extraordinaire Mr. Sean Smith caught 2 Juniors, while fishing with his Gillie Mr. Neil O'Shea of www.oshealoughcurrane.com Wind SE light and overcast with heavy rain late this afternoon.

4/10/15 Straight to C&R Sea Trout fly department,  Jeff from England caught and released 2 Sea trout both in the Junior class, all while fishing with his Gillie Mr. Tom O’Shea of www.flyfishingatloughcurrane.com and for the rest of the angling community they failed  miserably in their duties to entice a Wild Lough Currane Sea Trout to their flies, at least I hear you say their not telling lies! Wind SE fresh with good cloud cover.

3/10/15 Straight to  the hired out boat department of www.lakelandshouse.com Mr. John Flaherty and Mr. Brian Shanahan, yesterday caught 25 Sea Trout from Junior class up to 2 ½ lbs and they were telling the proprietor of www.lakelandshouse.com and local Gillie Mr. Frank Donnelly it was their best fishing ever on Lough Currane on Ireland’s premier Sea Trout lake and they continued today with five Sea Trout to their Boat, ranging from Junior class up to 2 ½ lbs. Now we cut across the Lake to the North Side and the Bungalow, Jeff from England caught and released 2 Sea trout both in the 1 ½ lbs. class, all while fishing with his Gillie Mr. Tom O’Shea of www.flyfishingatloughcurrane.com calm all day and overcast.

. 2/10/15 Straight to the backdate Salmon department, on the 28/9/15 Northern Ireland angler, Mr. Andy Wishart, caught a fine 7 lbs. Salmon on the troll, while fishing with his Gillie Mr. Dominic McGillicuddy of www.fishingwithdom.com and staying in the Salmon backdate, again 28/9/15 Mr. Paul Hyland caught and released a fine Grilse on the fly at around 6.30 pm and I am open to correction but I believe that Paul had the honour of catching the last Salmon on Lough Currane in 2015 Now back to the present and today’s live action, even though some anglers thought it was a dead loss, all I can say jealousy will get you no where ! Local Gillie Mr. Neil O’Shea of www.oshealoughcurrane.com reported two Sea Trout to his boat, also in good form fishing out of the Bungalow was Mr. Graham Elwood, while fishing with his Gillie Mr. Tom O’Shea of www.flyfishingatloughcurrane.com  caught and released a fine Sea Trout in the 1 ½ lbs. class. Wind light to calm with reasonable cloud cover.

1/10/105 Lough Currane was on the calm side and with bright  sunshine, as the Sea Trout looked  up at my Noble Anglers  with a smile and saying not today Lads. Just for  the record  I have 2 back dates will put them up in tomorrow's notes, the reason for this  I'm  on the road sorry for the delay.

30/9/15 Well as we all know today was the last day of the 2015 Salmon season and you can say without any fear of contradiction that my Noble Salmon Anglers failed miserably in their duties in procuring the Wild Atlantic Salmon and I can tell you my Noble Sea Trout anglers didn’t fair much better but as I say that at least a couple of boats did see a bit of action, Mr. Neil O’Shea of www.oshealoughcurrane.com reported just one Trout to his boat, staying with the Sea Trout fly department, UK angler Mr. Dave Eccelstone caught a fine 3 lbs Sea trout and his good friend and fellow angler Mr. Ken Towner of Waterville and the UK was telling me that their party also caught a few Juniors. Wind SE light with bright sunshine all day.

29/9/15 Straight to the C&R Sea Trout department, Mr. Paul Amos, caught a fine 3 lbs Sea trout on the drift, while fishing with his Gillie Mr. Junior Scully, also in good form with the fly were UK anglers, Mr. Michael Smith and his Son Mr. Sean Smith caught 5 Juniors, while fishing with their gillie Mr. Neil O’Shea of www.oshealoughcurrane.com and last but not least Pat and Ann Curran while fishing with their gillie Mr. Tom O'Shea of www.flyfishingatloughcurrane.com  caught 1 Junior which was sportingly released to fight the 2015 spawning grounds and for the rest of the angling community they ether failed to catch or they certainly failed to let their fingers do the talking at the end of their days manipulation. 28/9/15 Lough Currane was on the wild side with a strong SE wind blowing down the lake and in the words of local Gillie Mr. Neil O’Shea of www.oshealoughcurrane.com just got one Trout and it was hard work out there so on that note we will head for the upper lakes and in the words of local Gillie Mr. John Murphy, on Cloonaghlin today
Lovely conditions. Some brown trout but no sea trout, disappointing. Just for the record the photo was taken by John himself.

27/9/15 UK fly angler Mr. Sean Smith caught a fine Sea Trout, I can’t give the exact weight because I deleted  his Gillie’s text but if my memory  serves me right it was in around the 4 lbs. class and if I am wrong I’m sure his Gillie Mr. Neil O’Shea of www.oshealoughcurrane.com will give me a diplomatic kicking, else where, UK Angler Mr. Ken Towner, reported that the fishing conditions were better than yesterday but still hard going but at least Ken did have a good battle with a Sea Trout but sadly the Sea Trout won the day and that was his ration for the day and for the rest of the angling community, it was all quiet on the SW front. Wind SE fresh.

26/9/15 The Waterville Fishery was on the quieter side and here is the full SP , On Lough Currane, UK Anglers Mr. Michael Smith and his Son Sean Smith, while fly fishing with their Gillie Mr. Neil O’Shea of www.oshealoughcurrane.com Caught 3 Sea Trout, which were all sportingly put back. Now we head for the upper Lakes, on Lough Cloonaghlin a guest fishing with his Gillie Mr. Tom O’Shea of www.flyfishingatloughcurrane.com caught 1 ½ lbs Sea Trout again sportingly put back. Wind SE fresh with reasonable cloud cover. Now back down stream and out into the wild Atlantic Way and catch of the day and that goes to Mr. Paul Lawton of Cork and for good reason and I will let Paul give u the full story on this great catch,  Out fishing this morning in Cahersiveen, our boat broken down had to get toed back into port by the Valentia lifeboat, Thanks Lads!

25/9/15 UK Angler Mr. Jon Young was in good form in the C&R department with a fine 5 lbs. Salmon caught on the fly, also in good form with his fly rod was Mr.  Paul Lentelink, who caught 3 sea trout to 3 lbs on the fly, while fishing with his Gillie Mr. Vincent O’Sullivan of www.vincentsfishing.com Just for the record, the pictures and facts were sent to me by local angler Mr. Ken Towner, all I can say is thanks for your great support for the Waterville Fishery. Now to the Brown Trout department, David Sadleir of
Limerick, sent me a fine Photo of his Brown Trout that he caught on Lough Currane today. Now To catch of the day and that goes to Mr. Arnold Slater, while fishing with his Gillie Mr. Tom O’Shea of www.flyfishingatloughcurrane.com caught 6 Sea Trout ranging from Junior class up to specimen class there weights are as follows, 3 juniors, 2 lbs, 3lbs. 6 lbs. and finished their day off with a fine 3 lbs Grilse all C&R and all caught on the fly. 24/9/15 Straight to the catch and release department, fishing out of the Bungalow Mr. Mr. Peter Liddel was in cracking form in the fly department  with two Salmon ranging from 7 lbs. up to 8 lbs and finished his day off with 2 Trout, all while fishing with his Gillie Mr. Neil O’Shea of www.oshealoughcurrane.com Staying in the fly department, Mr. Tommy Duggan and his Grandson Tom Nugent of Kilkenny, were also in cracking form with two Salmon, Tommy caught a fine 8 lbs, Salmon and his Grandson finished the day off with a cracker of a Salmon in the 12 lbs. class with any luck will have pictures tommrow. Wind NW with good cloud cover.

23/9/15 There is only one boat that takes the headline and that is the boat of Mr. Michael Smith and his Son Sean of the UK, while fishing with their Gillie Mr. Neil O’Shea of www.oshealoughcurrane.com I start in their Salmon department, Sean caught a fine 8 lbs. Salmon as his proud Father looked on, but not to be out classed it wasn’t long before Michael himself was in battle with a fine Sea Trout and as his Gillie netted Michael’s fine 6 ½  lbs. Specimen Sea Trout he said that’s one for the record books, well Michael quickly informed Neil that his Sea Trout was going back, Anglers take note. Just for the record Michael and Sean finished their day with a Junior. And for the rest of the angling community there was no comment. Wind West fresh with reasonable cloud cover. Now as promised the names of the anglers that caught 5 Salmon out of Waterville Boats and at  watervilleboats@gmail.com Mr. Trevor Dewberry, Mr. Nigel Henshaw, and last but not least Peter Ruffle all from Hampshire in the UK and their catches are as follows, 3 Salmon on the fly and two on the troll, ranging from 4 lbs. to just under the 6 lbs. class.

22/9/15 Lough Currane was all quiet on the SW front, in other words my Noble Anglers failed miserably in their duties and the least said the soonest mended, the same couldn’t be said for Waterville Boats and at watervilleboats@gmail.com over the last few days. Mr. Trevor Dewberry of the UK and his party caught a total of 5 Salmon of which 3 were caught on the fly, 2 on the troll, weights ranging 4 lbs. up to just under the 6 lbs. Will give all Trevor’s party names as soon as I have them. Wind NW then veered NE light with reasonable cloud cover.

21/9/15 The Bungalow takes all the head lines in the Sea Trout fly department, first in the striking zone were UK anglers Mr. Peter Twomey and his party, while fishing with their Gillie Mr. Tom O’Shea of www.flyfishingatloughcurrane.com had 2 Juniors for the day, staying at the Bungalow, UK Angler Mr. Sean Smith, while fishing with his Gillie Mr. Junior Scully, was in stunning form with 2 fine Sea Trout both in the 4 lbs. class and just for the record all today’s catches were returned. Wind West fresh with reasonable cloud cover with showers. The amount of rainfall yesterday was 21.4 mm.

 20/9/15 Back to yesterdays Waterville’s Sea Trout Catch and Release Fly-fishing Competition  and here are all the facts of the day from Mr. Rod Robertson of www.loughcurrane.com The ‘Lough Currane Championship’ the annual Sea Trout
Catch and Release  Competition, hosted by the Waterville
Lakes & Rivers Trust, was voted a resounding success by
the competitors!  84 sea trout were caught and released
by the 24 anglers, over the two day contest. A good
number of Lough Currane’s famous larger sea trout, up
to 50 cm , featured in the catches. It was a close run thing

18/9/15 The Currane Championship’ Waterville’s Sea Trout Catch and Release Fly-fishing Competition got underway today and Mr Rod Robertson of www.loughcurrane.com gave me all the facts of the day and they are as follows, Most rods recording fish, there were quite a few Sea Trout in the 40 to 50 cm class and Local Angler Mr. Liam Ellis recorded the best of the day at 50 cm, so there is all to fight for tomorrow so let the Rod Benders commence. Now for the rest of the days fly news, I start in the apology department. I failed miserably in my duties in yesterdays notes, because I forgot to put  Mr. Tom O’Shea of www.flyfishingatloughcurrane.com catch so lets put the record straight, Mr. Colm Rigney and Keith McGovern from Co Mayo, caught and released 3 Juniors, all I can say is guilty as charged. Staying with Local Gillie Mr, Tom O'Shea of www.flyfishingatloughcurrane.com today his client, French Angler Olly, caught 3 Juniors on the drift. Now to catch of the day and that goes to UK Angler Mr. Michael Smith and for good reason he caught and a released a fine 4lbs. Sea Trout and his Gillie Mr. Neil O’Shea of www.oshealoughcurrane.com reported to me that Michael and his son Sean Smith caught two more Sea Trout and just for the record all fish were put back. 17/9/15 There was some good action in the fly department, we start on the South side of the lake. Bob from Luxemburg, caught 3 Sea Trout from Junior class up to 3 lbs. While fishing with his Gillie Mr. Frank Donnelly of www.lakelandshouse.com  Now we cut across the Lake to the North Side and the Bungalow and catch and release of the day, and that goes to that supreme fly Fisherman Mr. Sean Smith of the UK, who caught a fine 7lbs. Salmon drifting down Edery Bay  and not satisfied with his manipulation of the Morning session, Sean went for the Cream de Menthe in the afternoon and what Sean wants that’s what he gets and he did it style by catching a fine 8 lbs. Salmon as other Gillie’s watched with envy and as Sean’s Gillie Mr. Neil O’Shea of www.oshealoughcurrane.com watched with satisfaction and what Gillie wouldn’t . Staying with Sean in his Sea Trout department he caught and released 1 Junior and lost a very good one. Now back to yesterday, a French angler fishing with his Gillie Mr. Michael O’Sullivan of Waterville Boats and at watervilleboats@gmail.com caught a fine Grilse on the troll. Staying with yesterday we go to the C&R department and in the words of Mr. Sion Brain of www.kbfishingireland.com Fionan Brain with C&R trout. Very happy boy to let it live to fight another day. Wind NW light with good cloud cover with the odd light shower.

16/9/15 All the head lines goes to French angler Marthial of Roscommon, who caught his first Salmon on the troll and may it be the first of many and his Gillie Mr. Tom O’Shea of www.flyfishingatloughcurrane.com was telling me that they were only fishing 10 minutes when the action started. On the Sea trout front, all quiet on the Southwest front, well put this way the paparazzi phone was also quiet. But to be fair there was very little wind out there and what wind was there was NNW with bright sunshine for most of the day.

15/9/15 Lough Currane was on the quiet side, even though Local Gillie Mr Neil O’Shea of www.oshealoughcurrane.com reported that his clients, Mr. Denis Daly and Mr. Tom Corkern  caught 3 Trout and considering there was little to no wind and a rising Lake they did well, so on that note we head across the Valley to the River Inny where Mr. Werner Tutenberg, caught a fine Grilse and that’s your ration on today’s notes. Now to the picture department, as you all know  Marc’s Fly Fishing Team from Belgium were in good form last week and Marc sent me a nice picture of his good friend Dirk holding a fine Trout. Now to the Waterville news department, it has nothing to do with fishing but in my book it has because if the Good Village of Waterville didn’t have a good tidy Village we wouldn’t have Anglers keep coming back, so on that note I will let the tidy towns of Waterville have the last say. Our Tidy Towns Chairman Brendy Donnelly has resigned after putting in a tremendous effort over the last few years! His commitment has been unprecedented and will be sorely missed and that’s a fact.

14/9/15 Lough Currane was on the quiet side, which isn’t surprising with a total of  36 mm of rainfall yesterday and I can tell you there weren’t many anglers manipulating on the lake, you don’t have to be a rocket scientist to know that, the Native angler headed for the River Inny and Commeragh and as of yet the mobile is silent but I very much doubt if the Inny and Commeragh anglers reels are as silent.

13/9/15 I start in the backdate department, yesterday on the River Inny, Mr. Werner Tutenberg, caught a fine 9 lbs. Salmon. Now we cut across the Valley to Lough Currane and today’s catches,  Marc’s C&R Fly Fishing Team from Belgium and in Marc’s own words, plenty of wind this evening but not this morning, again the 3 of us totaled 10 Sea Trout from Juniors and few good 2 ponders and one good fish of 4 ½ lbs. this was our last days fishing and hopefully will be back  and fishing in the hired out Boat department of Waterville Boats and at watervilleboats@gmail.com again next year. Just for the record its made one almighty flood this evening and still bloody going so watch this space.

In Tom’s hired out boat department, Mr. Henry  Mc.Corry of Armagh in the last 3 days  caught and released 8 Juniors. Staying at the Bungalow Dutch Angler Mr. William Timmermans, caught a fine 7 lbs. Salmon on the fly. While fishing with his Gillie Mr. Neil O’Shea of www.oshealoughcurrane.com Now we head down the North Shore to Waterville Boats and at watervilleboats@gmail.com  Marc’s C&R Fly Fishing Team from Belgium, caught 10 Sea Trout ranging Junior class up to 3 lbs. Staying in the Sea Trout Department, German angler Mr. Markus Kruse, caught 3 Sea Trout on the fly ranging from 1 lbs. up to 3lbs.  Now to yesterdays weather, Valentia observatory recorded 55.4 mm of rainfall.

Now we head West up the North Shore to the Bungalow and www.oshealoughcurrane.com UK anglers James and Tom Marriot, fly fishing with their Gillie Mr. Neil O’Shea of www.oshealoughcurrane.com caught 4 Sea Trout ranging from Juniors up to 5 lbs. 7/9/15 Again Lough Currane was like a Mill pond for the majority of the day and in the words of Local gillie Mr. Tom O’Shea of www.flyfishingatloughcurrane.com in a text message sent at 14.21pm, its looking unlikely that photographs will be required this evening, unless these fish have a dramatic change of heart, well thankfully for his client, Mr. David Burton, did see a bit of action this evening, he caught 2 Juniors which were sportingly put back and considering all the elements were against my Noble Angler’s, David and his Gillie Mr. Tom O’Shea of www.flyfishingatloughcurrane.com did well and for the rest of the angling community it was all quiet on the SW front. The wind eventually did get up late this evening from the South with bright sunshine all day.

5/9/15 We start in the C&R hired out boat department of www.lakelandshouse.com Mr. Donal Doherty and Mr. D.J. Riordan of Killarney caught 8 Sea Trout, ranging from Junior class up to 3 lbs. and all sportingly put back. Now we cut across the Lake to the North side and the Bungalow and staying in the C&R department, Mr. Fergal  Keane and Mr. Roderick Roach, fishing with their Gillie Mr. Neil O’Shea of www.oshealoughcurrane.com caught 3 Sea Trout the best of which weighed in at 3 lbs. 4/9/15 Straight to World Famous Butler’s Pool and at www.watervillegolflinks.ie Mr. Noel Clancy of Kildare and Waterville, caught a fine 6lbs. Salmon on the fly. Staying with www.watervillegolflinks.ie in their backdate department yesterday 3/9/15 Mr. Charles Moore caught a fine 6 lbs. Salmon on a Silver Stoat fly. Now we head upstream to Lough Currane, again its to the backdate department, yesterday, Local Gillie Mr. John Quinlin of  http://www.thatchcottageireland.co.uk/  and his two hired out boats, fishing out of www.oshealoughcurrane.com caught 7 Sea Trout on the drift, ranging from Junior class up to 3 lbs. Now to today’s action or the lack of it I should say, my Noble Game fish were as lethargic as my Noble Anglers, especially at their end of their day’s manipulation. 2/9/15 Straight to the action in the Salmon department, UK angler Mr. John Fielding, while fishing with his Gillie Mr. Neil O’Shea of www.oshealoughcurrane.com caught a fine 12 lbs Salmon on the troll and finished their day off  with 3 fine Sea Trout ranging from Junior class up to 3 lbs. and just for the record all the Sea Trout were put back to fight the elements of the spawning streams. Now to the C&R fly department, Mr. David Burton of the UK, fishing with his Gillie Mr. Tom O’Shea of www.flyfishingatloughcurrane.com  caught 3 Sea Trout to his rod, ranging from Junior class up to 3 lbs. Now to the evening shift, this evening Mr. Liam Ellis and Mr. John Holsted, caught a fine 5 ½ lbs. Sea trout, which was sportingly put back to fight another day. Now to the apology department, on the 29/8/15 I went to the Higher lakes where there was some great fishing but when it came to the reporting or I should say the spelling of the anglers good names I failed miserably in my duties so lets put the record straight and I will let the plaintiffs put the record straight in their words. Hi, great report however both names mentioned were misspelled.

31/8/15 Straight to the Bungalow and the C&R Sea Trout fly department, Mr. Arnold Slater, while fishing with his Gillie Mr. Neil O’Shea of www.oshealoughcurrane.com caught 5 Sea Trout , ranging from Junior class up to 4 lbs. Now we cut right across the Lake to Coffee’s Bay, Local Angler Mr. Liam Ellis caught and released a fine Sea Trout on the drift, in the 3 lbs. class. Now to the department that you all like and yes you have it, I have been criticised for my bad quotations by  Ring of Kerry Rok Equestrian Centre and for good reason, I was politely told that when I say the Lake was like a Milk pond this is incorrect and the proper saying is, the lake was like a Mill Pond and I stand corrected. I will finish today’s notes by saying Tally HO  Wind calm this morning and fresh Northerly in the afternoon with reasonable cloud cover with the odd light shower.

30/8/15 Lough Currane was all quiet on the SW front in all departments and to be fair to my Noble Anglers there wasn’t  much wind and what wind was there was light and variable with plenty of sunshine. So we head for the backdate department and I was sent a picture of a fine catch of a Salmon and Sea Trout caught on Lough Currane in the past week.

A fine Sea Trout caught on the fly

29/8/15 We start on the upper Lakes and Lough Derriana and the C&R fly department,  in the last few days Mr. Toby Gibbins and party from Co Mayo have had fantastic fishing with 80 Juniors caught and a few nice Sea Trout in the 2 lbs class and not satisfied with that they came down to the Big Lake/Lough Currane and showed the rest of the angling community how it should be done in style, yes you have it, today they were fishing in the hired out boat department of www.oshealoughcurrane.com Mr. Matt Whitelaw of West port Co Mayo, caught a cracker of a specimen 6.56 lbs. Sea Trout out at the Sisters on a size 8 Alexandra fly, on a floating line and just for the record Matt would have released this fine fish but again sadly this fish was damaged in the gills. Staying with the Co Mayo anglers in the last few days they have had some good baskets of Sea Trout taken from Lough Currane from Junior class up to 2 lbs. For the rest of the Lough Currane anglers there wasn’t a murmur from their reels or their mobiles today but at least the paparazzi was in full swing on his Silver wing Honda. Wind SW light to fresh with reasonable cloud cover at times

28/8/15 Lough Currane was on the quiet side in all departments so we will go back to yesterdays fine catch and for good reason, Rory didn’t catch his Salmon on Lough Currane in actual fact he caught it on Copal Lake and in my opinion this makes Rory’s catch even better, because there isn’t many anglers if any that have caught their first ever Salmon on the fly on Copal and especially at the grand old age of 15. 27/8/15 Lough Currane has a new King of the fly in the making, 15 year old Rory Burke of the UK and the Grandson of  renowned UK and Waterville Angler Mr. Kevin McGillicuddy, caught his first ever 4 lbs. Salmon on the fly and his Gillie MD was telling me that this was his first time ever fly fishing and young Rory finished his day off with a fine 1 lbs. Sea Trout. There was no comment from the rest of the Lough Currane anglers and for good reason, you don’t have to be a rocket scientist to work out why, yes you have it they failed again. Wind SW fresh to strong with showers.

26/8/15 Lough Currane was on the quiet side in all departments going by the iphone, even there were a few Juniors caught on the fly, but you can say with out any fear of contradiction in the overall angling community they failed miserably in their duties, in their manipulation of their flies selection and presentation and their choice of drift and last but not least they failed to let their fingers do the talking at the end of their day and all I can say is, iphone or not I have spoken and just for the record I failed miserably my self, so who the hell am I to criticize. Wind WNW and veered WSW and overcast with showers.

25/8/15 Straight to the hired out boat department of Waterville Boats and at watervilleboats@gmail.com Mr. Ramon O’Reilly, was in great form with his fly rod today while drifting on Lough Currane, a cracker of a Sea Trout rose to his fly and as Ramon struck his fine fish, experience told him the chances were that he was into a specimen Sea Trout and the battle was on, after a fine fight his Sea Trout was ready for the net and with one swipe the fish was dispatched. Just for the record Ramon had every intention of returning this fine specimen Sea Trout of 6 lbs.7 ozs but sadly the gills were damaged. Now we cut across to the south side of the Lake, Local Gillie Mr. John Murphy, caught 2 juniors and finished his day off with a fine Sea Trout of 3 ½ lbs. all caught on the fly. Wind SE then veered SW fresh to strong with rain this morning and made a small flood.

23/8/15 Charlie Chaplin takes all the headlines in Waterville and Kerry take all the headlines, as they win at Croke Park both in Minor and Senior football semi-finals and my Noble Anglers had nothing to celebrate as they failed miserably in their duties. 22/8/15 The Charlie Chaplin Festival is in full swing and our Charlie made the Lough Currane anglers look like right Charlie’s today in all departments but thankfully the same couldn’t  be said downstream on the Famous Butlers Pool and at www.watervillegolflinks.ie  local Gillie Mr. Terence Wharton Jnr, caught a fine 6 lbs. Salmon on a Tube Fly and saved the day from total embarrassment. Wind calm for most of the day, when it did get up it was light westerly with reasonable cloud cover at times.

21/8/15 To all you C&R Anglers there is some good news from Lough Currane Horizon, a young teenage Angler from Boston, Mass, USA, Gavin Dowley, went Salmon fishing for the first time in his life and caught two fine Grilse within hour and a half, his Gillie Mr. Neil O’Shea of www.oshealoughcurrane.com asked Gavin why did he put both fish back, well where I fish in the US we put everything back, No Spin No Fly’s just a simple touch of C&R. Staying in the Grilse Department, Northern Ireland Angler Mr. Andy Wishart, caught a fine 5lbs. Grilse on the Troll and caught 2 Sea Trout both on the fly in the 2 lbs. Class, while fishing with his Gillie Mr. Dominic McGillicuddy  of www.fishingwithdom.com Now to the Backdate department, on Wednesday the 19th Mr. Arnold Slater caught a fine Salmon on the fly, while fishing with his Gillie Mr. Neil O’Shea of www.oshealoughcurrane.com Wind SW fresh with good cloud cover, with the odd shower.

20/8/15 I start in the apology department, firstly to Waterville House and at www.watervillegolflinks.ie they very kindly sent a picture on the 26/7/15 of Mr. Shane, who caught a fine 5 ½ lbs. salmon on a Ally shrimp fly, on the Butlers Pool. Staying in this department, US Angler fishing with his Gillie Mr. Michael O’Sullivan of Waterville Boats and at watervilleboats@gmail.com caught a fine 4 ½ lbs Grilse on the troll, on the 18/8/15. Now today’s action. We Start on the World famous Butler Pool and at www.watervillegolflinks.ie Local Angler Mr. Jim Sayers was on the early shift on the Butlers Pool and it wasn’t long before he caught himself a fine 6 lbs. Salmon on the fly. Now we head upstream to Lough Currane and the South side of the Lake and at www.lakelandshouse.com Dr. John Delap, while fly fishing with his Gillie Mr. Frank Donnelly of www.lakelandshouse.com  was in great form with 4 Sea Trout ranging from Junior class up to 5 ½ lbs. and were all returned. Now to the Salmon department and catch of the day and that goes to UK angler Mr. Dave Eccelstone, while fishing with his Gillie Mr. Vincent O’Sullivan of www.vincentsfishing.com caught 3 Salmon on the fly and there weights are as follows, six and a half, five and four and a quarter pounds. In the trolling department, Northern Ireland Angler Mr. Andy Wishart, caught a fine Grilse on the Troll, while fishing with his Gillie Mr. Dominic McGillicuddy of www.fishingwithdom.com

19/8/15 There was a good flood late last night and there was good water coming down the Commeragh, but alas there were no reports of any rod benders. But the same couldn’t be said in the Sea Trout department, so lets get to the facts, Mr. R Chambers of Belfast, caught 3 fine Sea Trout and there weights are as follows, 1 ½ lbs. 4 ½ lbs. while fishing with his Gillie Mr. Frank Donnelly of www.lakelandshouse.com and finished their day off with a cracker of a specimen Sea Trout of 6 ½ lbs.all caught on a Black Pannell variant, using a floating line. Wind WNW light to fresh and overcast with light misty rain at times.

18/8/15 Lough Currane was flat calm this morning so as you can imagine my Noble fly angers were redundant until about midday and going by their fingers this evening they didn’t do very well so on that note we head over to the trolling department where at least one angler did see a nice bit of action and that was Mr. Holger Fichel of Germany, while fishing with his Gillie Mr. Sylvester Donnelly. Now we head for the upper Lakes and Lough Derriana, Mr. Steven Gavin and Mr. Tom Murphy, caught 14 Juniors and twice as many Brown Trout. Wind calm to light S then veered SSW light with reasonable cloud cover at times.
