On March 3rd, 2025. The Currane anglers experienced another bright and sunny day. It was evident that their lines remained inactive due to the challenging conditions, as mentioned by a fishery officer who noted the significantly low levels. The wind was variable, shifting from east to ESE, with gusts ranging from moderate to strong. Yesterday's weather recorded no rainfall, a maximum air temperature of 16.8°C, and 11 hours and 8 minutes of sunshine.            

Mr. Paddy Cotter RIP

It is with great sadness that we report the passing of Mr. Paddy Cotter. On behalf of the Currane anglers and all the residents of Waterville and Kerry, we extend our Sincere Condolences to Paddy’s family, especially his children, Martha and Robert, and the entire family.

Paddy moved to Waterville in the mid-1960s and worked at the Butler Arms Hotel as a bartender, where he demonstrated exceptional skills and professionalism. Later, he continued his career at the Waterville Lake Hotel, where his knowledge and expertise extended beyond serving pints. He confidently prepared complex drinks, impressing even international patrons. An example of his craftsmanship occurred when an American guest requested an exotic drink, which Paddy meticulously prepared with various fruits and sugars over 15 minutes. The guest praised Paddy for being among the best bartenders he had encountered worldwide. Just for the record I was there, Rest in peace, Paddy.
