 June 8, 2025: No C&R Salmon or Seatrout were reported, likely due to clear skies and intense sun. Winds were gentle, shifting from WNW to NW and NNW. Rainfall was minimal at 0.4mm, the high temperature reached 17°C, and there were 5 hours and 7 minutes of sunshine. Now, let's turn to the Mad Fisherman's stories.

I remember in the salmon club up the weir stream one spring there was a snag. Everyone got stuck in it and lost their hooks. I eventually got stuck in it. It was a Sunday morning, and nobody was around only one other angler he was a Sargent in the guards. I pulled with all my might. I felt it move. I pulled out the nicest Christmas tree I've ever seen. It was covered in every kind of spinner you could think of Devons Toby’s, you name it. The Sargent asked me could he take one or two of the Toby’s they were his favourite bait. I told him take them all and I'll take everything else. I didn't like the Toby’s. None of the hooks were long enough in the water to go rusty. All baits were in mint condition. I'll never forget that day. We were to young children on Christmas morning

July 16, 2025. Three Currane boats were on the water today, but no catch reports have come in. Downstream at Butler Pool, a few fly anglers tried their luck, with no news yet of success or failure. Weather: gentle to moderate north to NNW winds, good cloud cover. Yesterday saw 1.2mm of rain, a high of 15.9°C, and just over an hour of sunshine.     

 

6/7/2025

 On July 6, 2025, activity among Currane anglers was relatively low. One angler reported catching a Grilse while trolling, with a few Sea Trout also caught on the troll. Fly anglers targeting Sea Trout noted that only occasional catch-and-release Sea Trout were taken while drifting. Weather conditions included a cold north-northwest wind, which may have contributed to the reduced catch rates. No reports were received from the catch-and-release river Inny or the Commeragh. The day's weather included a moderate to fresh NNW wind and substantial cloud cover. For the previous day, recorded rainfall was 3.4mm, maximum air temperature was 16.0°C, and there was 1 minute of sunshine.

 June 5, 2025. The day began early on the Commeragh River, with the first angling efforts commencing just before 6 a.m. As of this report, there have been no confirmed catches or releases from the Commeragh. Turning to Currane, anglers experienced some success: one notable catch-and-release of an 8 lbs salmon on the fly was recorded, along with two grilse taken while trolling. Additionally, several sea trout were caught on the fly. On the C&R River Inny, two anglers were observed fishing; however, no results have been reported.         

Regarding weather conditions on Currane and Inny, the wind was moderate from the west, accompanied by substantial cloud cover and occasional misty rain throughout the morning. For reference, yesterday’s weather included 9.1 mm of rainfall, a maximum air temperature of 17.7°C, and four minutes of sunshine.

 June 4, 2025. To provide a comprehensive overview, we will begin with recent developments on the Commeragh, where anglers have been honing their worm fishing techniques; however, there are currently no reports regarding their effectiveness. Moving downstream to Lough Currane, Mr. Jason Rayner demonstrated notable proficiency, successfully landing a 5lb grilse on fly today. Congratulations are extended to Mr. Rayner for this achievement and for joining the ranks of distinguished Currane fly fishers. Regarding the sea trout, only a few were caught and released for record purposes.   

Weather conditions at Currane were characterised by predominantly fresh west-southwest winds throughout the day, along with significant rainfall in the afternoon that persisted into the evening. These circumstances may encourage worm and Inny catch-and-release anglers to begin their activities earlier tomorrow. Yesterday's recorded weather included a trace amount of rainfall, a maximum air temperature of 18.1°C, and 6 hours of sunshine.

 June 3, 2025. One angler, Mr. Jason Rayner, achieved notable success during his day on Lough Currane. Accompanied by his gillie on his first visit to Ireland, Mr. Rayner caught an impressive 6 lb. salmon—an auspicious start, with hopes for many more. No additional catches were reported among other Currane anglers.                      

Turning to the weather conditions: today featured westerly winds at moderate strength, with intervals of cloud cover, sunshine, and occasional light showers. Yesterday's weather included 0.2 mm of rainfall, a maximum air temperature of 16.9°C, and a total of 12 hours and 7 minutes of sunshine.

2/6/2025

July 2, 2025. Mr. Simon Wishart caught a 5 lb salmon on Currane, marking his first catch of this size. There were five boats on Currane, with only occasional trout reported. Moving downstream to the Butler Pool near www.watervillegolflinks.ie a salmon was caught today. On the Commeragh River, one angler fished without any reports of catches. At the C&R river Inny, a couple of fly anglers were present, but no catches were reported. Today's weather for the Waterville fishery featured gentle to moderate WNW winds, mostly sunny conditions, and occasional showers. Recorded rainfall was minimal, maximum air temperature reached 16.8°C, and there were 8 hours and 6 minutes of sunshine.
