Wild Atlantic Salmon!

7/5/17 All The Salmon headlines go to UK angler Mr. Nick Depalmer, and for good reason, Nick, caught a fine 7 lbs. Salmon on the troll, while fishing with his Gillie Mr. Terence Wharton. On a personal note I would like to thank Nick’s Son, Mr. Anton Depalmer for sending the pictures of his Dad’s fine fish, the reason I say this is because the paparazzi failed miserably in their duties, but going by the quality of the photos I’m glad I did and thanks for that. Now for the rest of the Lough Currane news, yes you have it, the rest of the angling community failed in all departments. Wind light SE and Veered SW with bright sunshine all day.

C&R Sea Trout

Master Chef

6/5/17 Straight to the C&R department, local angler Mr. Liam Ellis of Waterville fishing with his good friend the Master Chef, caught a fine 56 cm / 4.lbs 7ozs Sea Trout on the fly and Liam’s quote of the day, yes the fly was beautifully and  correctly presented and as you would say Vincent, the truth of the pudding is in the eating of, the only thing was I released this fine Sea Trout, Master Chef or no Master Chef , as you can see the Chops in the frying pan. Now for Liam’s fly of the day it was the Reverend Mother, plus a wing and a prayer. Now Back to yesterdays notes and for good reason a very unhappy reader made it quite clear that yesterdays notes were rubbish, all I can say is you can’t pleases everybody. I have only one point of order if you are going to say the notes are rubbish, pleases give a reason why! Wind same as yesterday.

Who's the chicken the anlger or the Salmon!  

5/5/17 There were a few boats out manipulating their flies and lures this day on Lough Currane and with all their efforts be it with the fly or the lour they were all in vain all because my Noble Salmon were a bit of a pain but in my opinion the anglers that do complain are a bigger pain, if you get my drift and why do I say this well its simple, it’s either bad fly selection or bad presentation because a Salmon will always take a good presentation like an angler likes his liquid libation and if you can come up with better crap! you have an open invitation! Wind East fresh to strong with good cloud cover. Yesterdays weather, maximum air temperature 14.1c.

4/5/17 Today was a better fishing day cloud wise, but sadly my Noble Anglers that were participating in today’s action failed miserably in their duties and I can just hear them in the bars making their excuses for their inability to produce a Wild Atlantic Salmon, the only excuse they have is that the wind was in the East and there was no feast. Yesterdays weather, maximum air temperature 17.7c.

Marks Salmon

Lough Currane today

3/5/17 You could say that the weather was in control of the anglers today and for good reason, with bright sunshine all day and a light wind from the West, one would think that the high stool and a pint of larger in the hand was the order of the day, well think again because UK angler  Mr. Mark Knowles, caught a fine 8 lbs. Salmon on the fly off the point of Darby’s Island, while fishing with his Gillie Mr. Terence Wharton junior. So to all you anglers that say a bright day is no good for fishing you can Mark that as incorrect. Yesterday's weather, amount of rainfall 0.2mm. Maximum air temperature 16.0c.

2/5/17 There were a few nice boats out manipulating this day with the fly and the lure and trying their best to stimulate their fly’s and their lure’s to attract the Wild Atlantic Salmon or a Lough Currane Premier Sea Trout and what did they get for their efforts, as this is a Family Blog, I will be as polite as one can be and its simple, they enticed absolutely nothing. As the evening fell my Noble anglers headed for the nearest watering hole to talk about the one that got away, as the Guinness hit their vital organs the losses and weights got bigger, you could say all in an anglers days repertoire. Wind W then veered SE with reasonable cloud cover. Yesterdays weather, amount of rainfall 0.5mm. Maximum air temperature 14.0c.

Mr. Joe Lane

The Paparazzi at work

1/5/17 Mr. Joe Lane of Co. Cork was the toast of the Lough Currane anglers today and for good reason, while trolling with his good friend, Mr. Liam Boland also of Co. Cork, caught a cracker of a 6 lbs. 6 ozs Sea Trout on a Rapala. Joe was telling me that he had one almighty battle, but it wasn’t long before the Sea Trout came to the surface and his good friend Mr. Liam Boland was ready and waiting with the net and as they say the rest is history and by all accounts there is some celebration this evening in Cork. Now for the Salmon news and what can I say? not a lot because they failed miserably in their duties with the flie and lure. Wind WNW light with reasonable cloud cover at times. Yesterdays weather, amount of rainfall 7.6mm. Maximum air temperature 12.1c.
