19/1/2023 Into the third day of the 2023 season and all is quiet on all fronts as you can see by the photos this freezing day as the snow laid on the Kerry Mountains. Just for the record there were 5 boats out. Now we go back to the Bacon and Cabbage in the Lobster Bar Tuesday evening and as I said there was good crack but sadly I missed a cracker of a song about Lough Currane by Currane UK angler Mr. John Young, so take it way John the stage is yours.

Snow on the wild Kerry Mountains! 

18/1/2022 Facts of the day are the Wild Atlantic Salmon were all quiet on the Currane front, just for the record there were 3 boats out manipulating their skills, there were only a few kelts caught and released. Wind NNW light to fresh and overcast.

17/1/2023 Great to be back reporting on the No Spin No Fly’s just Facts zone on this opening day of the 2023 Salmon and Sea Trout season, so let’s get down to today’s facts. For starters there were 9 boats that ventured out on this freezing cold day, as you can see by the photo there were a good few Currane anglers fishing out of Waterville Boats and at watervilleboats@gmail.com and come lunch time they headed in for a well-deserved whisky and finished off with a fine fry and a glass of wine, sadly there were no Salmon caught this opening day. Just for the record there were a few kelts caught. Well, Currane anglers may have had a cold start to the 2023 season but they made up for it in the Lobster Bar this evening when they had the traditional Lobster Bar Bacon and Cabbage and as you see by the photos a good time was had by all, so a big thank you to the Management and their staff for a great opening of the 2023 season.

MR. Jonny Griffin RIP 

 

21/12/22 It’s with great sadness that I have to report renowned Local Gillie Mr. Johnny Griffin RIP passed away today. Johnny will be sorely missed as He heads out in his boat on to the Heavenly waters and I can say without any fear of contradiction Jhonny was a great Soldier and flyman in his own right and as you can see by the picture Johnny was also a great specimen Sea Trout hunter. On a personal note, I had many a good day fishing with Jonny and sadly that has come to an end but great memories. On behalf of all the Currane Anglers and the good People of Waterville and Kerry and your clients our Sincere Sympathies to all your neighbours and friends. As we all know Mr. Johnny Griffin RIP was known as the Soldier, well Johnny you’re a true Soldier of God now so Rest In Peace.

 Great news from the waterville hatchery from our chairman Mr. Michael Roden, on the Waterville Hatchery. So take it away the stage is all yours. 

 Just to let you know that officers from IFI aided by some of our volunteers and our RSS staff trapped sufficient broodstock for our hatchery programme. There seemed to be plenty of good spring salmon available so only the best were retained. All are now safe and well in the hatchery awaiting stripping of their eggs in the coming weeks.

Great News from our Chairman Mr Michael Roden, so take it away the stage is yours Michael. 

Great news from Department of ......... today. No brown tags for 2023. We have had ongoing discussions with the Department and had another very positive meeting with them again as recently as last Tuesday with a view to getting the Brown Tags issue off the table. All members and the wider angling community can be very satisfied with the outcome. It is our intention to continue discussions on other issues particularly relating to the situation regarding sea trout numbers. Kind regards Currane Fisheries
