 June 10, 3025. Currane anglers experienced a gentle variable breeze, ranging from NW to WNW, W, and WSW, accompanied by misty rain. In the Catch and Release (C&R) Salmon and Sea Trout department, there were no reports from the anglers. Therefore, we turn our attention to Vincent Donnelly, known as the "Mad Fisherman," who recounted his trip to Lough Currane. According to Mr. Donnelly, his experience was rather uneventful, shared in the company of his friend, Whisky Jameson.

June 9th. Firstly, I apologize to my esteemed readers for any inconvenience caused by the absence of reports over the past three days. Here is the latest update: Over the last three days, there have been no reported catches and releases (C&R) of Salmon or Sea Trout. As noted on Saturday, June 5th, an enthusiastic angler was worming on the Commeragh River at 5:30 am.

 There were no reports today from the Currane anglers regarding any C&R Salmon or Sea Trout as of yet. The wind was fresh from the SW and variable, accompanied by good cloud cover and occasional rain. Now, we will provide insights from Currane angler Mr. Symon Brown.

 

It’s absoluitly not the fish farm as the only prob

1 seals zillions arround Uk ie coast not practicing c and r

2 natural global warming

3 pollution pesticides habitat loss

4 poaching - more than what you imagine yes netting in the bays and that coast and up past Tralee

5 heron gillimot and the likes taking parr etc

6 humans

That’s the best  I can do on all this

It’s all very fast and sudden this decline

But I did say once you get to a very low amount of sea trout or salmon it’s like your near the bottom of the bath tub

The rest runs out to nothing fast

Iv been saying it’s sea trout are much more endangered than salmon for several years yet I believe the ie gov will let you stock wild salmon but not sea trout

There also lieth a big prob !

I hate c and r as you know

! But I can say if I was fishing there this year even though allowed by law I’d put every salmon and sea trout back - sadly due to shoulder  injery I’m out of action ! I suggested a meeting of local anglers to meet asap re what’s going on this year and invite the local

Mp ! The risk is total closure for several years here ! I greatly feel for the local comunity and guides ! To think after 10000 years of salmon and sea trout

We are living this day this year on a total collapse

June 5, 2025. Only one Currane angler was out fishing, with no reports of Salmon or Sea Trout catches. The weather was variable, with gentle to moderate NW winds veering WNW, W, and then WNW.

Thanks to Currane angler Mr. Bill Bullick for sharing his memories and facts about Sea Trout fishing on Lough Currane. Now, we turn to Mr. Barry Vaughan for more insights.

Totally agree with Bill, as for 34 consecutive years visited Currane for a week Sea Trout fishing, 2 to 6 of us in the party. We met Bill and many others from all over Europe too and had some wonderful times. It must be 10 years since we last came, and left a great void in my life, I missed it so much. It’s an environmental disaster, but many just don’t seem to care about that. A crying shame.

On May 4^th, June. There have been no reports of any Catch & Release Salmon or Sea Trout. Therefore, we turn our attention to a retrospective view from The Currane anglers. We invite Mr. Bill Bullick to share his perspective on this matter.

Thank you, Vincent, as always.  We should now be in peak seatrout season. Just 10 years ago, boats were coming in with 2-4 trout every day. I know because I was there. Fish averaged 2.5-3lb, with the odd specimen. How things have changed.  All because of the criminal decision to allow fish farms to expand adjacent to Ireland's most valuable remaining seatrout fishery. That scuppered my plans (and my friends' plans) to spend significant periods of our retirement in Waterville. To say I am disappointed is an understatement. Frank & Anne Donnelly were excellent hosts and we really enjoyed the area - with its friendly people and excellent restaurants. We loved the place. I can only imagine how the professional ghillies feel. 😡

Yesterday's weather recorded a rainfall amount of 0.7 mm, a maximum air temperature of 14.7°C, and 5 hours and 1 minute of sunshine.

 On June 3, 2025. The Currane anglers experienced favourable conditions with a light to fresh variable wind blowing from WNW to NW, accompanied by reasonable cloud cover. Despite these good conditions, there were no reports of any catch and release (C&R) wild Salmon or Sea Trout. It is worth noting that anglers might have considered putting on their C&R Inny hats due to the significant rainfall the previous night. The weather data recorded for the previous day included 21.6mm of rainfall, a maximum air temperature of 15.1°C, and 4 hours and 2 minutes of sunshine.

 On May 2, 2025. The Currane Salmon and Sea Trout anglers were unable to fish due to adverse weather conditions. A strong Southwest wind with gusts up to 70 km/h forced the anglers to return to the mainland without any catches. The previous day's weather included 8.2 mm of rainfall, a maximum air temperature of 15.6°C, and 8 hours and 8 minutes of sunshine.

 On June 1st, 2025. No reports of catch and release of Salmon or Sea Trout were noted from the Currane anglers. Today's weather at Currane featured moderate to fresh winds from the NW to NNW, accompanied by occasional showers. The previous day's weather recorded 4.3mm of rainfall, a maximum air temperature of 16.7°C, and 5 hours and 8 minutes of sunshine.
